This is a Siemens S7-300 PLC I have for testing. These are quite powerful and for most of my projects (in automation) LOGOs would be much better suited. I have one LOGO coming soon but for some reason Siemens thinks it's a good idea to have different programming softwares for different PLCs so I have to install and learn another IDE just for these smaller PLCs.
Visiting Blackpool with my point and shoot I was able to get a few shots of the transfer flight landing. Annoyingly due to security that have put new wood gates up meaning unless you have a small zoom lens you have no chance of a decent image..... I remember the days when it was just a simple bar stopping cars ! Anyway hope you enjoy them.

Note, 4930 was built at the Great Western Railway Company’s Swindon works in May 1929 as number 4930 HAGLEY HALL, being transferred to British Railways upon nationalisation of the railways on 1st January 1948. It was withdrawn from Swindon Motive Power Depot on 2nd December 1963 and was stored around Swindon. It was sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers Limited on 26th April 1964, arriving at Woodham’s Barry scrap yard in June 1964. It was purchased for preservation by Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) Limited in June 1972 and was moved to the Severn Valley Railway by rail on 6th January 1973 where restoration was completed in late summer 1979. Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) Limited was renamed as Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) PLC on 15th March 1982 and 4930 was allocated the TOPS number 98530

The relays to the left control a 3 light dwarf CPL and the rectifier is for a CNW dwarf semaphore and provides 110VDC. The two relays to the right are the semaphore control. The PLC is a MicroLogix 1000 Programmed by ZCG US.

It was transferred to First Glasgow (No.2) Limited as number 32303 circa July 2010, the seating being altered from H42/23D and was transferred to First Glasgow (No.1) Limited as number 32303 in February 2011

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), or programmable controller is an industrial digital computer which has been ruggedised and adapted for the control of manufacturing processes, such as assembly lines, or robotic devices, or any activity that requires high reliability control and ease of programming and process fault diagnosis.
They were first developed in the automobile industry to provide flexible, ruggedised and easily programmable controllers to replace hard-wired relays and timers. Since then they have been widely adopted as high-reliability automation controllers suitable for harsh environments. A PLC is an example of a "hard" real-time system since output results must be produced in response to input conditions within a limited time, otherwise unintended operation will result.
