Platform fishing is a technique for catching salmon on the Columbia River used by the Natives that have been passed down for generations. During the low water season, platforms are constructed extending down towards the optimal fishing spots. They are used when the water is high and the salmon are returning. The fisherman would use dipnets- fishing nets attached to poles- or hoopnets- nets held open by large circular hoops, to swoop down and snag fish below the platforms. The poles may themselves be up to 7.6m long. Celilo Falls was a famed fishing spot, with hundreds of Natives from dozens of tribes fishing from dozens of fishing platforms while the salmon tried to jump the cascades. This technique was far more common when the Columbia River remained a deep and wild body of water, but with its extensive damming simpler methods are replacing platform fishing.

It's so fun waiting for the train... Specially when it's gonna be crowded and hot and late.

Took a lil train trip to San Juan Capistrano. We had some fun. Went to the mission, ate at Rubys. Came back...

This photo of South Western Railway's 'celebrity' class 455 EMU 5868 arriving into the western end of platform 5 at Clapham Junction could almost be a photo taken back in 1984 as opposed to 2024 although back in 1984 the class 455 EMUs had a different style of headlight and tail light clusters on their front ends plus the unit and individual carriage numbers would have been in the BR corporate 'Rail Alphabet' font as opposed to the South West Trains corporate font as seen here. Also back in 1984 the platform edges at stations never had the yellow safety line or the tactile surfaces applied to warn visually-impaired passengers of the impending edge of the platform. In 1984 all of the 74 class 455/8 EMUs were allocated to Wimbledon EMU depot prior to units 5801 to 5846 transferring to Selhurst EMU depot to operate on the suburban services from London Victoria and London Bridge from 1985 onwards, leaving units 5847 to 5874 remaining at Wimbledon for use on the suburban services from London Waterloo.

Ive been rolling around on these since interbike and im loving them! With my bike being my mode of transportation i wear a wide variety of shoes depending on where im headed. Hell, i wear a bunch of shoes because i like shoes. Ha. Anyway, these little guys grip anything and everything. The bearings spin smooth. They fit my feet well. And theyre...translucent green! Well i dig that anyway. Be on the lookout for these and a whole slew of other parts to hit the market from the dudes at Eighthinch.
Pretty sure this was my first time here. I opted to save a couple minutes and transfer here for a Fremont bound train instead of waiting for a direct service from 16th Street Mission.
This platform is at the up end of the Hawkesbury River Bridge and is used by perway workers from the depot behind the platform.
