I made a poster format presentation out of my photos of exploded stars. In this collection, there are two types of dead stars, Planetary Nebulae and Supernova remnants. Images are not in scale.

Saturn's icy satellites wheel about the colorful giant planet, while the
rings shine dimly in scattered sunlight. The Ringed Planet is, in many
ways, a laboratory for investigating the history of our solar system and
how planets form around other stars.
There are four moons visible in this view. Tethys (1,071 kilometers, or
665 miles across), largest in the scene, is on the far side of the
ringplane. Mimas (397 kilometers, or 247 miles across), is the one on the
near side of the rings, below Tethys. Janus (181 kilometers, or 113 miles
across), is left of the rings' edge. Pandora (84 kilometers, or 52 miles
across) is a speck below the rings' edge, between Janus and Mimas.
Mimas casts a shadow onto Saturn's bluish northern hemisphere.
This view looks toward the unilluminated side of the rings from about 2
degrees above the ringplane.
Images taken using red, green and blue spectral filters were combined to
create this natural color view. The view was acquired with the Cassini
spacecraft wide-angle camera on Oct. 30, 2007. The view was taken at a
distance of approximately 2.6 million kilometers (1.6 million miles) from
Saturn. Image scale is 153 kilometers (95 miles) per pixel on the planet.
The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European
Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages
the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The
Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were designed, developed and
assembled at JPL. The imaging operations center is based at the Space
Science Institute in Boulder, Colo.

I'm struggling to remember what this gear did or what it was attached to. I think it's a planetary (epicyclic) gear, with the inner wheels rotating inside the fixed outer wheel.

Photos were taken @ 16mm = image distortion :( Distortion was fixed and then photos were stitched together in Photoshop. I will try to take pictures again when I can but this time with a different lens. Hoping for clear skies!
These spectacular sculptures by Antony Gormley are on Crosby beach. Another Place consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea.
The Another Place figures - each one weighing 650 kilos - are made from casts of the artist's own body standing on the beach, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation.
According to Antony Gormley, Another Place harnesses the ebb and flow of the tide to explore man's relationship with nature. He explains: The seaside is a good place to do this. Here time is tested by tide, architecture by the elements and the prevalence of sky seems to question the earth's substance. In this work human life is tested against planetary time. This sculpture exposes to light and time the nakedness of a particular and peculiar body. It is no hero, no ideal, just the industrially reproduced body of a middle-aged man trying to remain standing and trying to breathe, facing a horizon busy with ships moving materials and manufactured things around the planet.

I made this poster to show and understand relative sizes of the nebulae. All Planetary Nebulae in this image are in same scale. Each individual image covers an area of 20' horizontally. (~0,3 degrees) and
they are in "natural" colors, mixed from the narrowband channels.

Specially designed Cassini orbits place Earth and Cassini on opposite
sides of Saturn's rings, a geometry known as occultation. Cassini
conducted the first radio occultation observation of Saturn's rings on
May 3, 2005.
Three simultaneous radio signals at wavelengths of 0.94, 3.6, and 13
centimeters (Ka-, X-, and S-bands) were sent from Cassini through the
rings to Earth. The observed change of each signal as Cassini moved
behind the rings provided a profile of the distribution of ring material
and an optical depth profile.
This simulated image was constructed from the measured optical depth
profiles of the Cassini Division and ring A. It depicts the observed
structure at about 10 kilometers (6 miles) in resolution. The image shows
the same ring A region depicted in a similar image (PIA07874), using
a different color scheme to enhance the view of a remarkable array of
over 40 wavy features called "density waves" uncovered in the May 3 radio
occultation throughout ring A.
Color is used to represent information about ring particle sizes based on
the measured effects of the three radio signals. Shades of red indicate
regions where there is a lack of particles less than 5 centimeters (about
2 inches) in diameter. Green and blue shades indicate regions where there
are particles of sizes smaller than 5 centimeters (2 inches) and 1
centimeter (less than one third of an inch), respectively.
Note the gradual increase in shades of green towards the outer edge of
ring A. It indicates gradual increase in the abundance of 5-centimeter
(2-inch) and smaller particles. Note also the blue shades in the vicinity
of the Keeler gap (the narrow dark band near the edge of ring A). They
indicate increased abundance of even smaller particles of diameter less
than a centimeter. Frequent collisions between large ring particles in
this dynamically active region likely fragment the larger particles into
more numerous smaller ones.

An Easter egg died in a new way. Food coloring added to Cool Whip, swirled around a bit, rolled with a layer of the Cool Whip, and left to set for an hour. Wiped off the whipped topping and I ended up with this egg shell with nice swirls of blues & greens.

Its been some time since I imaged Venus.
I've changed to a Chroma Bessel UV filter and a Pierro Astro Mark 3 ADC since both are said to transmit UV light quite well.
I'm also trying to catch Venus in the evening sky as early as I can so I don't have to compete with atmospheric turbulence and haze near the horizon. This run was at 2143 hrs when Venus was 22 degrees above the horizon.
Even with that, turbulence was quite bad tonight so Im pleased to get something.

Thanks Dali and Andy for reminding me about this astronomical event. Jupiter, Venus and the Moon line up in a triangle to form a special conjunction on Feb. 25, 2012. We spent a lot of time online emailing each other about places we liked to shoot this and I kept coming back to this area. Andy didn't join us he was making good progress on his computer project and didn't want to stop so it was Dali, Phil, and I who shot here. It was fun, but cold!
The forecast called for a clear sky, but we had intermittent clouds, and a low fog bank. As soon as Venus dropped into the fog we called it a night. The Crescent Moon is in those clouds, but Jupiter and Venus are clearly visible.
I believe my 18mm AI-S lens has stuck blades. I fear a trip to a repair shop is on its horizon.

Last night I had a perfect view of the conjunction of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, but only a phone. Tonight I had a more obstructed view, but I think the power lines ended up making it a bit more interesting than a plain photo with this camera would have been.
It's also astonishing how quickly Mercury moves. No wonder they named it after the god of speed.
