Louis Abel-Truchet: "PARIS, LA PLACE CLICHY APRÈS LA PLUIE", 1892

In 1937, Brown Derby owner Robert H. Cobb went into the restaurant's kitchen to fix a late-night snack for Sid Grauman, operator of Grauman's Chinese Theater. He browsed the refrigerator for ingredients, and chopped them up finely. Thus, the Cobb salad was born. From then on, Grauman often requested that a Cobb salad be prepared for him. Word soon spread about this creation throughout Hollywood, quickly increasing its popularity. It became such a hit that film stars started requesting "Cobb's salad", and it was eventually added to the menu of the Brown Derby restaurant.

Which direction? A quiet moment in the metro station Place de Clichy in Paris.

Paris. Near place de Clichy

It was a shock because I used to work near here. But I didn't recognize anything but Wepler's.

No photos allowed... that's why it is a bit blurry

Even they day began more joyfully when I spotted this young girl on a pink vespa primavera, probably travelling to her workplace. Shot made at Place de Clichy, Paris outskirts.

This is probably the best 'overall' shot I got of Montmartre Cemetery. I found it hard to find good compositions amongst the jumble of stones and trees.

From Wikipedia : "Montmartre Cemetery (French: Cimetière de Montmartre) is a famous cemetery, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, France. Cemeteries had been banned from Paris since the shutting down of the Cimetière des Innocents in 1786, as they presented health hazards. Several new cemeteries replaced all the Parisian ones, outside the precincts of the capital, in the early 19th century: Montmartre in the north, Père Lachaise Cemetery in the east, Passy Cemetery in the west and Montparnasse Cemetery in the south.

Located west of the Butte, near the beginning of Rue Caulaincourt in Place de Clichy, the cemetery in the Montmartre quarter of Paris is built below street level in the hollow of an old quarry with its entrance on Avenue Rachel under Rue Caulaincourt. The cemetery epitomizes the artsy, quixotic, gentle, almost whimsical Paris that every romantic visitor secretly cherishes. A popular tourist destination, it is the final resting place of many famous artists who lived and worked in the Montmartre area."

In the world of kebab restaurants, an indomitable vegetarian one with an inconspicuous front is still standing in the area of Clichy. This warm, welcoming and familial place is Joy in Food, a delicious vegetarian restaurant located two steps away from rue Truffaut. The owner, Naema (everyone calls her “Joy”) takes good care of her guests and offers a 90% organic cuisine composed of fresh products. Home-made bulgur, tarts, lasagnas, quinoa, all of it served with vegetables. The restaurant also serves an apple-cinammon-grape-fig cake (to die for!) and spice coffee. Servings are generous and the cuisine healthy. An address to keep to yourself because seats are limited!

Menu between 11 and 14 euros.

Open from Monday to Friday from 12 to 2.30 pm.

Wiki:

The Place de Clichy is one of the few places in Paris where four arrondissements (the 8th, 9th, 17th, and 18th) meet at a single point. (The others are the Pont Saint-Michel, where the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th meet, and the Belleville roundabout, where the 10th, 11th, 19th and 20th come together.)

The Place de Clichy is also unusual in that it has been untouched by urban planners. This explains the heterogeneous façades[citation needed] of the buildings in the area. The Place de Clichy has the character of a substantial crossroads, rather than that of a real place (public square).

Surrounding the Place de Clichy is a lively array of shops, restaurants, and businesses, including a popular cinema. It is a hive of activity, both day and night.
