Omiš (pronounced [ɔ̌miːʃ], Latin and Italian: Almissa) is a town and port in the Dalmatia region of Croatia. The town is situated approximately 25 kilometres (16 miles) south-east of Croatia's second largest city, Split. Its location is where the Cetina River (to the right) meets the Adriatic Sea.
Omiš was well known in the past by the Corsairs (i.e. pirates) of Almissa. Omiš Pirates were extraordinary sailors and shipbuilders, famous for their Sagittas (the Arrow), a special type of ship constructed for fast attack and even faster retrieval into the safety of the mouth of the Cetina River. Due to its position and the bravery of its inhabitants, Omiš was practically impregnable to all invaders. Even the Turks, who conquered all of the south-eastern Europe, and were stopped at the gates of Vienna, didn't manage to defeat Omiš.
At the peak of their power, Omiš Pirates were one of the most powerful and fearsome pirates on the whole Mediterranean Sea. Omiš Pirates ruled the Adriatic Sea for more then three centuries until in the year of 1420 the whole of Dalmatia, except Omiš, fell under rule the of Venetian Republic, the most powerful naval force of those times. Surrounded by the enemy and left completely alone, the Pirates of Omiš managed to defend themselves for 24 years. In 1444, Omiš fell into the hands of Venetia and that year marks the end of piracy on Adriatic Sea.
From the end of the 15th century, when the city fell to the authority of Venetian Republic, its name was the Italian Almissa.
Today, Omiš is best known for the traditional festival of the Dalmatian a cappella singing groups. During the Omiš Summer Festival various concerts and recitals are performed at the city's plazas and in churches.
The pano was taken from the Mirabella Fortress above the town, built in 13th century.
Pirates in the harbor. Don't worry, it's the crew of "La Grace"The cruise ship Czechoslovak Grace, cruising between the Balearic Islands and Tuscan Archipelago. The crew, for the entertainment of passengers and children, often dress up as pirates.

I wish I was a pirate out there, under my own flag
Running for no reason and no reason to turn back
Salt and rum on my tongue, sails tattered and torn
Laughing in the devil's face, riding out a storm
Ooh, what are these days?
Gonna get off of these highways, wake up in some bay
With sunshine on my face
St. Christopher on a silver chain
Say a prayer, sail away

There actually is a pirates hotel in Santa Ponsa,Mallorca , Spain. At first I thought it was a theme park.

The tower... "was built in 1926 as an enclosed staircase to the beach for William E. Brown, a senator from Los Angeles....
In the early 1940s, Brown sold his home to a retired naval captain, Harold Kendrick. Kendrick was a lifelong pirate aficionado and found himself attracted to the home because of the odd, slightly askew tower.
Records call Kendrick as “eclectic and fascinating as the buildings themselves” and go on to describe how he would dress in pirate regalia and invite local kids over for games and stories of the sea. "
Do you remember their ship? Pirates finally found the treasure they were looking for. :-)

El Galeón (1)
El Galeón or Galeón Andalucía is the replica of a 16th century Spanish galleon designed and built by Ignacio Fernández Vial. It was sponsored and built by the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Nao Victoria Foundation with the objectives of promoting the event Guadalquivir: A River With History, being part of the Spanish Pavilion during the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and becoming ambassador of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.
In addition, the Nao Victoria Foundation signed cooperation agreements with several Andalusian universities, and also with the one in Barcelona and in Liverpool, for the development of various projects. It has also received the Grand Sailing Award from the Spanish Sailing Federation.
Pascual Flores (2)
The pailebote Pascual Flores is an original vessel and different from the boats that run through our waters today. During the first years of its life, the pailebote was dedicated to the export of fruits, salt and general cargo, both in Mediterranean ports and anchorages, as well as on the north and west coast of Africa. It has a length of 34 meters, 8 meters in length, 8 meters beam, 3 meters draft and a total surface area of 415 square meters. The ship is destined to make cultural tours, in which it has spread the long history of the pailebots in relation to the history of paileboats in relation to the transport of salt, through the exhibition content installed on its decks.
Victoria (or Nao Victoria) (3)
a carrack and the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world. Victoria was part of the Spanish expedition to the Moluccas commanded by the explorer Ferdinand Magellan until his death in the Philippines in 1521. The expedition began on 10 August 1519 with five ships. However, only two reached their goal in the Moluccas. Thereafter, Victoria was the only ship to complete the return voyage, under Juan Sebastián de Elcano's command, crossing uncharted waters of the Indian Ocean to sail around the world. She returned to Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain on 6 September 1522.

Any costume will do for Chesterfield's 1940s vintage market day. This chap also dresses as a pirate at Goth and Steampunk events. He also has a Dick Turpin outfit.
What is the Pirate Duck? Well, it's a kind of tour that takes you to the heart of Miami that is partly in Biscayne Bay, to see the house of the rich and famous, for a fully narrated boat ride and then to tour South Beach through streets and water .
My son's new toy. I would like to take a photo of him playing with the ship but he refused. He plays games with me, when he wands to make a deal! :-)

"Who'll make his mark?" the Captain cried
"To the Devil, drink a toast"
We'll glut the hold with cups of gold
And we'll feed the sea with ghosts
I see your hunger for a fortune
Could be better served beneath my flag
If you've the stomach for a broadside
Come aboard, my pretty boys
I will take you and make you
Everything you've ever dreamed
"Make fast the guns, tonight we sail
When the high tide floods the bay
Cut free the lines and square the yards
Get the black flag stowed away
The Turk, the Arab and the Spaniard
Will soon have pennies on their eyes
And any other laden fancy
We will take her by surprise
I will take you, make you
Everything you've ever dreamed"
Six days off the Cuban coast when a sail ahead, they spied
"A galleon of the treasure fleet," the mizzen lookout cried
"Closer to the wind, my boys," the mad-eyed Captain roared
"For every man that's alive tonight will be hauling gold aboard"
"Spare us," the galleon begged, but mercy's face had fled
Blood ran from the screaming souls the cutlass harvested
Driven to the quarter deck, the last survivor fell
"She's ours, my boys!" the Captain grinned
And no one left to tell
The Captain rose from a silk divan with a pistol in his fist
And shot the lock from an iron box, and a blood-red ruby kissed
"I give you jewelry of turquoise, a crucifix of solid gold
One hundred thousand silver pieces, it is just as I foretold
You, you see there before you
Everything you've ever dreamed"
Anchored in an indigo moonlit bay
Gold-eyed 'round fires the sea thieves lay
Morning, white shells and a pipe of clay
As the wind filled their footprints
They were far, far away
Our sails swell full as we brave all seas
On a westward wind to live as we please
With the wicked wild-eyed woman of Portobello town
Where we've been told that a purse of gold
Buys any man a crown
They will serve you and clothe you
Exchange your rags for the velvet coats of kings
"Who'll drink a toast with me?
I give you liberty
This town is ours tonight!"
"Landlord wine, make it the finest
Make it a cup for a sea dog's thirst
Two long years of bones and beaches
Fever and leaches did their worst
So fill the night with paradise
Bring me peach and peacock 'til I burst
But first, I want a soft touch in the right place
I wanna feel like a king tonight
Ten on the black to beat the Frenchman
Back you dogs, give them room to turn
Now open wide sweet Heaven's gate
Tonight were gonna see if Heaven burns
Ooh, see how she burns, oh, see burn
I want an angel on a gold chain
And I'll ride her to the stars
It's the last time for a long, long time
Come the daybreak, we embark
On the flood of the morning tide
Once more the ocean cried"
"This company will return one day
Though we feel your tears, it's the price we pay
For there's prizes to be taken and glory to be found
Cut free the chains, make fast your souls
We are El dorado-bound
I will take you for always, forever, together
Until Hell calls our names"
"Who'll drink a toast with me
To the Devil and the deep blue sea?
Gold drives a man to dream"
