Consumers Energy's Southwest Michigan Pipeline began commercial operation Sept.18, 2014. The pipeline runs 24 miles through St. Joseph and Branch counties and completes a 90-mile dual gas transmission pipeline corridor, which increases value, reliability and safety for Consumers Energy’s 1.7 million natural gas customers.
This 12 foot diameter wooden pipeline runs right through the parking lot at the trailhead to Toketee Falls. It carries water from the North Umpqua River to a power generation plant. There were quite a few leaks in the pipe from which water was spraying.
The pipeline reappears again after a stint underground and weaves it's way through the beginnings of the Brooks Range
Was used for cleaning the oil pipelines. Really!! Here's some info I found:
There are two different styles of pigs that venture down the pipeline. The first pig down the line cleans it out, while the second, "the smart pig," goes through to collect the necessary data. Sending a pig down a pipeline may sound like a strange thing, but it makes the pipeline safer and more efficient.
Smart pig??? Hmmm. Not sure which one this is.
This is probably a gas pipeline, since water would freeze and rupture the line 9 months of the year.
