Keppel Verolme is world famous and market leader in the build and rebuild of ships and especially offshore equipement.
After a period in which work seem to have been a bit more slow, there are now some interesting projects.

'Audacia' since.
The ship was converted to a pipe laying vessel in 2007 with new tonnages of 56,172 g.t. and 31,464 dwt.

Pipes are prepared on shore and welded before being loaded onto the laying vessel.
It's the reel thing! It took the owners of the original Apache to realise that "small" pipes, up to about 12" in diameter can be wound onto a reel, transported at high speed in a ship shaped vessel, and then unwound on the location with a minimum of problems.

Solitaire, the largest pipelay vessel in the world, has set new standards in the pipelay industry. Based on the same principles as Lorelay, her ship-shape provides excellent workability. She has a pipe carrying capacity of 22000 t, making her less dependent on offshore pipe supply in hostile areas. Precise manoeuvring on full dynamic positioning allows the vessel to work safely in congested areas. Her high cruising speed and lay speed make her very competitive worldwide.
The vessel has been operational since 1998 and has since steadily improved her performance. A lay speed of over 9 km a day has been achieved, operating the in-house developed Phoenix automatic welding system.
She has laid numerous deepwater pipelines and holds a deepwater pipelay record in 2775 m (9100’). Her S-lay capacity was increased in 2005 to a holding force of 1050 t, enabling her to lay the heaviest pipelines.

Audacia is 225 m long, which in terms of size places her between Allseas’ DP pipelay vessels Lorelay and Solitaire. She is optimised for the execution of small to large diameter pipelay projects of any length in all water depths.
The concept for Audacia was developed entirely in-house by Allseas. Her ship-shape allows for a high transit speed and gives her excellent workability, while a large pipe storage capacity makes her less dependent on offshore supply.
Operating on full dynamic positioning, with a stinger positioned at her bow, Audacia offers the safest pipelay method in congested areas where anchors could endanger the integrity of existing pipelines. Pipeline start-ups and lay-downs are executed in very quick time ensuring any disruption to other activities near platforms is minimised.
Audacia conversion 2006 - 2007
In June 2005 Allseas announced that it would be building a new 225 m long DP pipelay vessel, to be named Audacia. Two months later, the Panamax type bulk carrier "Geeview" was procured.
The "Geeview" finally arrived at the Keppel Verolme shipyard, Rozenburg, in December 2005 and work to convert her into a pipelay vessel commenced in January 2006. Audacia left Keppel Verolme for sea trials in the North Sea in late September 2007 and successfully completed her maiden pipelay project in early December 2007.
