I wanted to do something special for photo #4000, but this is just the next one in order.
It's a pipe fitting, but looks like a baby buggy boot. The top thing is something rubbery that lost some of it's redness while cleaning.

Jim Putnam works on Newels massive remodeling project at the house on Grant House. He's melting lead over a propane tank, the Putnam brothers always helped each other out with all their building projects. Newel was the bricklayer, Fred did the iron work, dad did the pipefitting, all could do carpentry, Jim also was a certified mechanic...the Putnams were jacks of all trades.

the new thing in cooling building's, make ice over night, when the electric is cheaper, fill tank's with ice, keep's building cool all day. These tank's are about 8 ft. tall, 6 ft dia.

Eric Kimes, Memphis, works on putting together a frame to be used in a plumbing competition he was competing in during Wednesday, August 12th's gathering of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprenctices of the plumbing and pipefitting industry of the United States and Canada held at Washtenaw Community College. Along with the competition between pipefitters, plumbers, welders and sprinkler techs, the tradesmen also were receiving training to become certified instructors at trade schools.
