CSXT 7698 leads a westbound BNSF pipe train in the late afternoon sun. This train was routed on the opposite main due to a freight doing some work in town. Albia, IA 8/11/15.

Utah’s Kodachrome Basin State Park, on the Colorado Plateau, consists of monolithic stone spires, called sedimentary pipes, accentuate multihued sandstone layers that reveal geologic history from the Jurassic period (180 million years ago) to the Cretaceous period (95 million years ago).

Back Story ............
Arrived early at The Dog Palace to find Mama & Mr Brown waiting as usual by the old rusty gate.
After we said our hellos breakfast was served.
Soon after a trek through The DMZ took place with no issues at all.
Crossed over into The Leroy Crews turf and fed TG, GF & Leroy.
Hung out with Leroy & tourists shooting a few monkeys then went back over to pickup The Browns.
Circled out the back way crossing the concrete walking bridge with Mama & Mr B in tow.
Next photo shows the primates eating papayas, Mama is sitting right next to me while shooting , Mr B is sitting behind us on guard duty.
Couple hours had passed and it was time to take off for the pipe puppies.... ;-)

When I pulled in it took a little bit to prepare their food.
As you can see they have a new tin that acts as a bowel
keeping most of the food in one place.
Knowing the puppies would jump into the bowel and scatter
their food all over the place this work quite well .
Today "8" puppies appeared from their hiding place but their mom still cautious only popped her head out.
Just before my departure I was able to touch her nose once again. She does look to be in poor health. Ill work on that... ;-)

I call this a "pipe dream"* because it is surreal. In what way?
I turned the image upside-down.
NB1 -The more I looked at the original (shot a few years ago), the more I thought that from a composition standpoint, the light part should be at the top. After all, light above, and dark below is how we mostly expect the world to look. I know a portrait painter who, at a certain stage in creating a portrait, turns it upside down. He does so to evaluate his work in the abstract; as a composition.
NB2 - Also, we conventionally expect at least part of a drain pipe to lead straight down (as it seems to here), even if, in reality, it does not. But if you ponder the image of this pipe a little, its "wrongness" is revealed. The lighting of the diagonal section of it does not make sense. Because of the inversion, the pipe is brightly lit below and dark above. In addition, it now casts a shadow upward. I think the "wrongness" of the pipe adds an almost-subliminal, unsettling undercurrent to the image.
* "pipe dream" is an old English idiom for any kind of fantasy, including unrealistic expectations. It stems (ha ha) from back when Englishmen first visited the Far East and discovered the illusory joys of smoking pipes loaded with opium.

What a way to kick off the weekend! Colour spray across the sky for quite a lengthy period of time… Now that the clouds have disappeared we have a cracker of an autumn day! Keep it coming!

On a bright morning just as the rising sun disappears , 66030 passes Musselburgh Station with the recently introduced Hartlepool - Leith Docks loaded pipe train. This is seen passing through here at 0638 on the 22nd June 2016. The headcode is 6S58, which was the headcode for the loaded steel train that ran to Dalzell from Lackenby. The returning empties in the evening also use the same headcode as the empties from Dalzell used , 6E30
