Amtrak train 42 is making its way into Harrisburg after a morning trip from Pittsburgh. The train is passing a piece of the Capitol City's railroad history, stashed on a siding temporarily. PRR 4859 pulled The Metropolitan on January 15, 1938, becoming the first electric locomotive to pull a passenger train to Harrisburg. The GG1 was only a month old after being built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona. The classic motor had been pulled out of its current home under the shed at the Harrisburg train station so that Amtrak could make some major track upgrades. The locomotive, and a PRR cabin car, were wrapped in a protective plastic while they spent a year on this siding. In anticipation of their return to the train station the wrap was removed, allowing for this scene the day before they were moved back under cover.

The chrome strips have lost their plating,

most of the red paint has weathered away,

but most of the handpainted pinstripes remain.

Moth orchids are the most common orchid and the easiest to grow. The varieties are infinite - this one is called Kaleidoscope but it reminds me of pinstripes. Phipps Conservatory Orchid Show.

My first trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory was so good... A warm, sunny stroll surrounded by green, growing things was a rejuvenating break from this rotten winter weather, and I caught some interesting shots.

I found this pinstriped boulder hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains. First I can't believe many of you will want to look at a rock. Sorry to foist it off on my long suffering contacts. But it does fascinate me. I can't figure out how it would get such perfect lines in granite. The whole area is glacial, but also volcanic -- behind the camera is a huge plateau which is eroding material from a huge prehistoric eruption. A mystery: I'd love any thoughts that would explain the pinstripes. The geologists among you must know. The blue is mostly due to my brandy new polarizing filter. The black ring like vignetting is from the ring with the lens on wide angle. Yes I used a little Orton (because I couldn't believe anyone would just look at a rock -- and because I have this dramatic streak that I cannot suppress). The trees are huge and so the rock is huger.

This picture is to illustrate the change in his super powers. He can transform his body into a solid, concrete like material which enhances his strength and protects him from various forms of damage. He can also transform his body into a gaseous, fog like mass which gives him limited flight and protects him from most physical damage. His bio is pretty much the same as before. I considered asking advice for a possible name change, but I think I'll keep the name. Let me know what you think.
