Donnelley WMA checkpoint, Colleton County, South Carolina.

The white-eyed subspecies of the normally red-eyed Eastern towhee is generally found only in southern Georgia and Florida, so Colleton County where this was taken, is well out of their normal breeding range. Nonetheless the towhees still wander north regularly, a couple of times all of the way to Virginia.

Charlie set the pace for this hike and he averaged about 20 minutes a mile.
That IS fast for a short legged little dog!
4 sections left to go!

I thought for quite a few days before uploading this image. The usual reason of "i am not happy with this image" was stopping me from uploading this. "But you know what", I said to myself, "I like it even if it is not the way you wanted it".
One literally has a window of 5 minutes to take such a photo.. The sun rises so fast that the magic disappears very quickly. The warm rays of the sun, the orange colours of the light, glowing leaves and branches are precious for an early Newlands Forest visitor... here is a glimpse of the magic.
Sharing of my photos is encouraged, please feel free to share with family and friends on Facebook. Please do not use the image without permission.

Zion National Park is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive cuts through its main section, leading to forest trails along the Virgin River. The river flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden. Also along the river, partly through deep chasms, is Zion Narrows wading hike.
The village of Campanhó, located on the slopes of Serra do Marão in the municipality of Mondim de Basto, presents a rural landscape characterized by terraced fields, a traditional agricultural technique that maximizes cultivation on sloped terrain, preventing erosion and optimizing water resource management. The terraces, built with dry stone walls, create small cultivable platforms that favor subsistence crops such as gardens, corn, vines, and fruit trees. The white houses, scattered across the slope, follow the terrain, reflecting the adaptation of local communities to this rugged environment. The vegetation, composed of pines and deciduous plants, signals the transition between forested and agricultural areas, creating a mosaic of biodiversity typical of the northern mountain ranges of Portugal. This scenario highlights not only the interdependence between agricultural activity and nature but also underscores the importance of preserving the cultural traditions that define the identity of this region, where Marão stands out for its natural beauty and ecological richness.
This little Tit is a specialist of the Scottish pine forests, was so lucky this one would drop down from the trees within feet from us. funny how it was with a flock of coal tits probably for safely. we known when it was about to pop out the tree because of its sweet little call.

Pine Island Reflection
Nature's Perfect Circle
When geometry meets golden hour, miracles happen 🌅 The universe aligned for this shot—circular pine grove, setting sun dead center, water like glass. I waited 47 minutes for the wind to stop. Worth every second. This is what patience photographs like.

Grayling / hipparchia semele. Dunwich Forest, Suffolk. 23/07/20
'SUPPING IT UP.' (1)
Its always a treat to see this species, something I look forward to whenever I'm in Suffolk during the summer.
This year they took a bit of finding though. I was getting quite concerned after searching several of their strongholds and drawing a blank.
Thankfully, one particular track in Dunwich Forest was to their liking and there was a great deal of activity along it. I enjoyed watching males patrolling the heather clad margins, seeking out females who were nectaring on the flowers. There was also plenty of sunbathing taking place on the warm stony track itself or on wooden posts. The butterflies offered up an awesome display of behaviours ... a true Grayling 'fix', especially welcome in this trying year.
Wendover Woods, Buckinghamshire, England.
Wendover Woods is an area of woodland on the north edge of the Chiltern Hills in England. Named after the nearby town of Wendover, the woods are owned by the Forestry Commission.
Covering 325 ha (800 acres), the woods are a mixture of coniferous and broadleaved trees. There are several signed walks for recreation, as well as bridleways, picnic and barbecue areas and a children's playground. A Go Ape treetop adventure course opened in 2008.
There are views of the countryside in the Aylesbury Vale to the north, and a stone monument marking the highest point of the Chilterns which lies within the woods on Haddington Hill.
