This sample was inspired by a collage based on a drawing of pinecones. Small ridges were stitched into calico fabric in regular squares. Repeating the process evenly across the fabric lead to peaks at the corners and gave a very interesting wave-effect
Easy to grow and hardy semi tropical. The flowers coming from the spathe are edible, tasty, and sweet.
Another find at my parents' house, which we are still clearing out, was several large bags on pinecones, nuts, and other weedy things my mother used in making nature inspired wreaths. I brought them home and have put most of them in my compost pile, but these cones and a few others I put aside for photography - later to end up as compost.
I think this will make a nice holiday card, possibly with a greeting added at the bottom; or maybe some holly or other colorful decoration. What do you think?

Love pinecones, 'specially the big fat ones when they're all opened up like this. They're so intricate yet primeval.
