PIMP MY PASSPORT, 2008
Passport covers to prevent unwated RFID reading
Pimp My Passport is a project to spread knowledge about RFID (Radio frequency identification) chips. The project examines DIY and hacking prospects as well as control and privacy issues of the RFID passports currently being rolled out throughout the European Union. The passport RFID chips have been hacked already. For example, Elvis Presley’s passport was read by Amsterdam airport machines. Pimp My Passport also plays around with the notion of nationality and its symbols - seeking new ways to signal identity by "pimping" personal travel documents. Although dealing with heavy subject matter like electronic privacy, big brother and nationality, Pimp My Passport is a playful, hands-on project that anyone can take part of in a form of passport cover making workshop.
Pimp My Passport is a project by Mari Keski-Korsu and Mika Meskanen. The passport covers presented here are made by Mari Keski-Korsu and they use recycled materials. They were exhibited in Mari's Illusion of Safety exhibition in Lasipalatsi, Helsinki. The first cover prototype was made out of microwave oven’s door, but it turned out to be unhandy. Lighter materials like coffee packages and folios from chocolate wrappings are easier to carry around.
How does Helvetica ‘real’ italic looks like? I think it should look like this. I am sure all Helvetica lovers will be against me, but I am not afraid to fight them.

Contrary to warnings, the finder goes on the Zorki 5 with room to spare (the 5 has 6mm more clearance between the shoe and the shutter speed knob than the Zorki 1).

Mildly "pimped" Trabant from East Germany.
Taken during "RED OKTOBER" - the annual meet-up at the National Tramway Museum at Crich in Derbyshire, October 23rd. Red October is for Eastern European vehicles built in the Cold War period, and is a strictly non-political event - the uniforms, flags etc. are there simply to put the vehicles in a correct historical setting.

After the Siege of Greenland ended in 2075 with a WADA loss, the problem of arming millions of untrained civilians for the certain invasion of North America came up. After less than a month of designing, testing, and evaluating, they came up with a rifle both easy to use and maintain, which they called the "Civi-1."
It used almost only stamped and riveted parts to speed production, and the wood was laminated. It used a powerful round easily found in any gun shop in North America. It was originally a semi-automatic design, but this was scrapped quickly in favor of a simpler bolt action.
Side note: Design partially based on the Lee-Enfield No. III (magazine), M1 Garand (handgrip), and Kar 98k (barrel and cleaning rod section).

Looks like Late Night With Jimmy Fallon got a hold of one of my headshots, presumably through Getty. Ha!!! Eric isn't too stoked though, having to be Martha Stewart's pimp. The joke was what celebrities would have become if they didn't use their stage names.

Me. 1974. Age 10. All dressed up and no place to ho.
We didn't dress like hippies in 1968, but we sure dressed like pimps in 1974.
I don't know what strange force drove my family choose to dress me in this Superfly getup. At age 10 one could and should start exercising some choice over one's own clothes. I can attest that that didn't happen in this case. I didn't know what knickers were before I was presented with this outfit, so it's highly unlikely I would have asked for them.
This ensemble was purchased at the Lord & Taylor's on Route 22 in Scarsdale, NY. Don't hold it against them. Also, we really can't blame my parental units. I mean, this WAS hip in those days. How were they to know that the only 20th century clothes that would never go out of style were jeans and a T-shirt? Nowadays, any parents who dress their kids like this could be brought up on multiple child abuse charges. But in 1974, this was the way to be seen.
Also, burgundy?? Burgundy??? Ok, granted, burgundy was the color of the 70s, but jeez Louise!
This photograph was taken in a studio on South Broadway in Yonkers in April 1974. We were probably going to celebrate my 10th birthday later that afternoon.
Pimped Picture 78a Colour cast removed from image and skin tones balanced out a little fill in flash added and some burning in work done to bring out lost detail in the jeans and boots also on the hair.
