Diane, please remind me to pick up a French-press coffee maker when I return.
It turns out that the darkest roasts pair very well with my favorite slice of pie. All this needs now is some hot coffee, black as midnight on a moonless night.
What to do on a damp, dark, Wednesday afternoon? Bake pies of course.

I admit to not being the most artistic of cooks. I go for taste and these were scrummy. My pastry is not vegetarian and since many of our friends are vegetarians few friends get to eat my pies.

Shoofly pie was a rare treat when I was growing up. When we would travel into parts of Pennsylvania or Ohio that had it, we would always try to get a pie to bring home. Sadly, they are more and more difficult to find, especially in the southern US. But this year, right before Thanksgiving, we found one at an Amish store in Greeneville, Tennessee.
The crowning touch to Chris' pie eating technique was the pie "dismount" so to speak - a highly coordinated show of wiping pie from his Terminator sunglasses.
Maybe this should be on a Cooking Show for for squirrels?
The nuts of the buckeye are not edible - perhaps for any creature. They are indeed beautiful with curvy lines that fade to dark brown.
Our small bush has at least this many still on the ground and many more nuts yet to fall.

A wide mixture of Pacific Intermountain Express power units pose with a lone maintenance supervisor in a white shop coat. The 1963 photograph of the Oakland Shop shows new cabover Peterbilts, older conventional Petes, International Emeryvilles, and an assortment of city power. The shop worked three shifts to help support the rolling wheels in the system. A clean shop took pride in the well maintained trucks that passed through the facility. Pork pie hats seemed to be all the rage at the Ould lammas Fair in Ballycastle. None in black so I had no opportunity to become either Jake or Elwood!
The pastry chefs decided to do some promotion to boost sales at the bakery... Since lockdown, their business is not doing so great and they hope this will bring in more customers!
Would you like some pie?
