8x8 picture frame made from reclaimed maple flooring.
The wood in this frame came from the floor of the former Syracuse Farm Supply Warehouse in Syracuse NY. The building dates roughly from the 1940s. The owners wanted the building removed. ReUse Action (reuseaction.com) was contracted to remove as much wood as possible from the structure before the main concrete structure was demolished.
Several thousand square feet of hard maple flooring was recovered and re-sold to be used as beautiful reclaimed flooring in residential housed.
We used a few pieces of this flooring to create this picture frame. The wood shows its age and experience: years of farmer's boots shuffling across it, machines dragged across it, sacks of feed and probably even animal marks on it.
This frame was made of part of the floor that was never painted and part of the floor that had been painted red. Both show the wear and tear of the feed and seed warehouse.
We love all these random marks and patina that simply cannot be duplicated artificially.
This frame embodies our eco philosophy. Most components are reclaimed materials. The glass is salvaged from old stock or from window sashes. Only the glaziers points biscuits and carpenter's glue are new materials. Each is coated with Minwax water based urethane.
In the scheme these crafts make a miniscule difference in the fate of the environment. However building materials comprise the largest part of landfills. Anaerobically rotting wood and other organic components contribute significantly to climate change by releasing methane as a byproduct.
This large 3ft x 5ft canvas is elegantly framed with a inner gold frame, white linen liner and ornate gold frame. The traditional and sophisticated frames compliment the artwork perfectly.
I took a literal approach to my Advanced Photo assignment for framing. I wanted to portray the idea of old style painted portraits and being "behind the scenes" of them.
Art framed pictures are the art forms and styles to utilize framed art for making various and different pictures. For our metal pictures created by our skillful artists if there is no frame those pictures will look very bad. So it is not artistic and elegant. So it is very vital how to use frame materials to make art framed pictures for wall art decor. For more info please visit hdmcrafts.com/art-picture-gifts-4407/
Picking up my daughter at a friend's house, I spotted this appropriately placed picture frame in the driveway. I should have cropped the photo, which was hastily taken, but kept the original composition to show off iPhone 4's camera.
This limited edition art print is given the divine treatment with this gorgeous, high-gloss, ornate, Italian moulding. The traditional frame with the vivid lacquer incorporates old world beauty with a sleek modern finish.

A "do it yourself" digital pictureframe I made from an old IBM Thinkpad 600 laptop. The project was inspired by this guy's version I found online www.tacosntonic.com/pictures/Projects/Digital Picture Frame/
Don't mind the unsightly power cord, this was taken during the initial wall hanging and test.
The frame/laptop is equipped with a USB wifi card and automatically updates the pictures from my flickr account using the screensaver "Slickr". I also installed a VNC program so I can control the laptop remotely if I need to.
If you have an old laptop kicking around thats to slow for anything else I'd suggest making a similar project.

frame 27
Matte size (in): 4x4
Frame outer size (in): 8x8
Material: tongue and groove pine flooring
Source (approx age): Residential House, South Buffalo, NY (approx 1900)
Price: 20.00
4x4 inch (matte size) picture or photo frame.
Made from recycled flooring from a green deconstructed house in south Buffalo, New York. several houses were deconstructed and the materials salvaged by Action Reuse (reuseaction.com or see their photo set on flickr). The houses were removed for expansion of a nearby hospital. the wood is flooring that is approximately 100 years old and is yellow pine. It bears the mark of years and untold numbers of feet tromping across it. Most was/is being recycled into new flooring but I liked the color and grain and marking on it. The original tongue can be seen around the edges and the former groove is now the rabbet that holds the glass. Each piece is mitered and biscuit joined together so they are quite sturdy.
The glass is also reclaimed from old stock or salvaged window frames. Each is finished with water based polyurethane finish and has keyholes for hanging. The only parts that aren't recycled are the biscuits, glue and glazier's points so they are ecologically friendly (if only a little in the total scheme). But these make a beautiful statement about the the preciousness and the futility of throwing so much away in the landfills.
