This photo was taken with a big (glas) bowl filled with water. The bowl was illuminated from different sides with light (each light source had a different color)

Depending on the strength of each waterdrop, waves with different heights are caused. Depending on the height, different light colors are reflected in the water.

Here is the result. What you need?

Ingredients:

- e.g. Canon EOS 70D

- e.g. Canon EF 100mm

- e.g. 2x Yongnuo YN560-III Flash

- Several light sources

- Transparent color masks

- A big bowl with water

- 1 Pipet

Photographer's notes:

☞ On 13 September 2024, the administrator for the Flickr group "Paths we walk" rejected this photo for NOT displaying a path that my dog and I walk almost daily. On that rainy day, my camera focused on the urban walkway beneath me instead of the scenery ahead. Despite this, the photo doesn’t break any of the group's established guidelines. My dog and I reject the rejection.

A restored 19th-century water-powered gristmill, in...

Stone Mountain Park

DeKalb County, Georgia, USA.

10 October 2025.

▶ Reverse view: here.

***************

About the gristmill:

The mill was built in 1867, along a creek in Fannin County in north Georgia (near the current town of Ellijay). It fell into disuse and was eventually abandoned.

In 1965, the mill was dismantled and moved to Stone Mountain Park. There, the mill and its milling equipment, including the mill house and millstones, were reassembled. Additionally, a thirteen-foot-diameter wooden overshot water-wheel and a stone millrace were replicated and put in place.

Scenic USA.

Stone Mountain Park.

***************

📷 Photographer's notes:

The mill is a well-loved spot in the park, easily accessible from the perimeter road. So, it took some time to capture the image without any visitors in the frame. Fortunately, I finished just as a large group of school children arrived.

The entire scene featured deep contrasts between sunlight and shadow. To capture the full range of tones, I took four separate exposures, blending them later during the editing process. Wind gusts were strong, and some of the foliage shows motion blur. C'est la da-guerre-otype!

***************

📖 Vocabulary note:

Per Merriam-Webster, "gristmill" is one word; the park spells it as two: "grist mill."

Rejections:

☞ On 17 March 2025, the administrator for the Flickr group "FIELD GUIDE: FLOWERING TREES of the WORLD" rejected this photo for NOT depicting a flowering tree. Upon reconsideration, the image was kindly re-invited to the group.

☞ On 19 March 2025, the administrator of "Telephoto Landscapes" rejected this image for NOT depicting a "Landscape shot with a long focal length." Really? I could not disagree more.

☞ On 22 March 2025, a moderator for the Flickr group "GEORGIA, THE PEACH STATE" rejected this photo for NOT displaying "scenic beauty of the State of Georgia, USA." It isn't easy to fathom any reasonable rationale other than petty animus.

Brewery description:

"The Rothaus Tannenzäpfle is the absolute classic among our beers - and has been since 1956. That is why it is also the namesake and figurehead of the Gäpfle family. The best aromatic hops from Tettnang and the Hallertau as well as local malt made from summer barley and the purest spring water from the Black Forest give Rothaus Tannenzäpfle its uniquely spicy and fresh taste."

Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (Baden State Brewery Rothaus)

Me:

For having traveled so far, beer was in good form. Brilliant clarity under a long-lived collar of white foam. Slightly grassy nose; subtle cracker-wafer malt; hints of honey and green apple; subdued tree-sap and mowed-grass hops; dry, slightly sulfury finish. Bonus points: served on draught, in a brewery serving glass, out-of-doors, on a spring afternoon. Delightful!

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. Depending on the year, the full Harvest Moon can occur anywhere from two weeks before the autumn equinox to two weeks after. Thus, the Harvest Moon is either the last full moon of the summer season or the first full moon in autumn.

In 2021, the Northern Hemisphere autumn equinox comes on September 22. The full moon falls less than two days earlier, on September 20. Thus, for the Northern Hemisphere, this upcoming full moon is the Harvest Moon and the last full moon of summer.

▶ "The Castillo de San Marcos (Spanish for "St. Mark's Castle") is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States; it is located on the western shore of Matanzas Bay in the city of St. Augustine, Florida, built by the Spanish to protect the city.

The Castillo is a masonry star fort made of a stone called coquina (Spanish for "small shells"), which consists of ancient shells that have bonded together to form a sedimentary rock similar to limestone. Construction began in 1672 and was completed in 1695, though the structure would undergo many alterations and renovations over the centuries. Native Americans from Spain's nearby missions did most of the labor, with additional skilled workers brought in from Havana, Cuba."

In 1924, the Castillo (then named Fort Marion) was declared a U.S. National Monument. In 1933, the National Park Service assumed responsibility. In 1942, the original name, Castillo de San Marcos, was restored.

It stands at the north end of Anastasia Island and was built between 1871 and 1874. The current lighthouse tower, original first-order Fresnel lens, and the Light Station grounds are owned by the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, Inc., a not-for-profit maritime museum.

☞ The St. Augustine Light Station comprises the 165-foot (50 m) 1874 tower, the 1876 Keepers' House, two summer kitchens added in 1886, a 1941 U.S. Coast Guard barracks, and a 1936 garage that housed a jeep repair facility during World War II. The site is also a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather station. The lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

The tower, however, is the second lighthouse tower in St. Augustine, the first being lit officially by the American territorial government in May 1824 as Florida's first lighthouse. However, both the Spanish and British governments had earlier operated navigation aids here, including a series of wooden watchtowers and beacons dating from 1565."
