Raise your hand if you remember. :) I had fun showing my 5th grade student how to play hopscotch. She knew how to draw it, but not how to play. She was thrilled with my polka dot chalk. What a find! I was only able to grab a few shots before the sky let loose and RAINED tho'. That's right...twice in one week. Woo hoo! Only about 5 min. worth, but we'll take it!

For the sake of full disclosure, I should admit that we don't actually have a Wii. It made a good title tho', right?

360/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Trend":

Back in the 40's, the Brownie camera was the new trend. Now, you can not only take photos with your phone, but manipulate them with apps. I'm not particularly trendy, so I watched other people have fun with their iPhones for several years before I finally broke down and bought one. LOVE the phone, but I won't be giving up my DSLR for iPhonography. It's obviously a trend tho' as there are several flickr groups dedicated to it. (iPhone pic shot with Hiptsamatic, using the John S lens and Blanko film).

Totally trying this shot again once everyone goes home from the hospital when Abigail won't need to be wrapped up all the time and I have more control over lighting. If I'd been thinking, I would have asked her daddy to reverse his hands so the one with the wedding ring would be on the outside. Hindsight...

Abigail is much happier today. ;)

It seems not so long ago that I was sitting there, waiting for hugs from my two little girls. And now, I'm the Grammy. Where did the time go??? Hannah had a blast for this shoot! I stood just outside the frame on the right with my remote shutter release and we let her walk back and forth between us, sharing hugs on each end. She loved it and so did we!!!

I didn't have any sheer fabric or spider webs to shoot for this challenge, so I decided to play with a transparent portrait instead. It's rare for me to say this...I'm actually very happy with how this turned out. :) It might have been nice if the grass had been green, but I guess this dead stuff kind of works for the concept of passing time. lol. It's all we have left at the end of this brutal summer!

Best I could do during my lunch break. I'll never be satisfied with one of these, but it was good for me to do it. And it only took me about 50 tries to get the focus halfway decent. I think I need to practice, but who wants to look at that?! lol.

BTW...Light was coming from my right (your left) and blowing out that side of my face/hair. I had to hold a piece of foam board up with my right arm. It worked very well. Of course, the neighbors have more proof that I'm nuts!

We found these with a hand written note in my grandmother's jewelry box after she died. She planned to give them to me for my high school graduation as they had been given to my own mother at her high school graduation. My mother died when I was just 6 weeks old, so these are very special to me. I photographed them once before for a challenge back in February. The strand was broken at the time, but since then I've had them restrung. And they now belong to my younger daughter...presented to her at HER high school graduation. :)

M4H - "Seasonal"

With the exception of winter and its short days, I love each new season... the hopefulness and vibrance of spring, the welcome cooling of autumn, even the stifling heat of summer (as long as we can swim... lol). Each season is my favorite... at least for a while. And the best part is how welcome each new change is... which means I'm loving it right now. It's a little too early to call it fall here, but the temperature dropped this weekend. My beloved acorns have come out to play and I'm doing my happy dance.

I don't know that this is the best example of glass, but it's the one that caught my eye after our afternoon at the state fair. It's behind a glass counter and that candy coating is smooth as glass, so I'm going with that. I am POOPED! We had fun and didn't eat TOO much. Let's see... a corny dog, praline sweet potato popper, and chocolate covered strawberry waffle ball. Wow...a meat, vegetable, and fruit...all fried, of course. lol

I know, I've already done blueberries and raspberries. Time to shoot some blackberries! I think berries are as fascinating as acorns! lol. Guess I dropped the ball when I missed doing strawberries for the S challenge. I was fortunate to shoot anything today as I ALMOST dropped my camera and macro lens. Leaned forward to adjust my set up and tipped over the tripod. Caught it JUST in time. YIKES!!!!!!!! BTW...I thought about cleaning up that blackberry juice in the foreground, but decided I like it. lol And now...I'm off to eat my subjects!

218/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Bottles":

I'm on vacation, but trying VERY hard to accomplish things and get organized before my teaching semester begins next week. So...I just grabbed a quick shot of the only soft drink I like. I'm actually a spring water kind of girl...I only have one of these about once every other month, but I think it makes a better shot than a bottle of Ozarka.. lol. It took less than a minute for the condensate to form as we're expecting a high of 107 again today. We actually had rain...sprinkles....for about 5 min. Sun is beating down now and the cicadas are screeching. lol.

Changed my mind a few minutes ago and converted to sepia...Still not wild about it, but I like this better. Also, my internet is acting strange today...will do my best to comment tonight, but may still have problems. Fingers crossed!

Was uploading the shot in comments when I caught this shot upon hearing some commotion outside my window. The birds were quite upset that this guy was stealing their food. Plus, I shot it through the window. lol Thanks for your indulgence on letting me swap my shots.

Our Daily Challenge - "Parallel lines":

Not too sure about this one. Different for me and almost a little abstract, but there are plenty of parallel lines! I haven't decided yet if I like it, but thought I would post and possibly change later. My daughter is playing a concert tonight with the New Life Symphony...Brahms and Haydn. I shot this while she was practicing her cello. She was far too busy to stop and pose, so I just walked around shooting from different angles. (Not distracting at all, right?) I think this one was from the floor. lol

355/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Resolution":

I don't really believe in New Year's resolutions, but that doesn't mean I have no goals. One of them is to continue to strive for better a balance in life. It seems to be getting harder, not easier and I'm not sure why. It doesn't take much to upset the delicate balance between responsibility and pleasure and, before I know it, things are toppling over. Part of the problem is my very loose grasp on the concept of time. For me it's very fluid...it gets away from me. My husband, the concrete thinking engineer has a hard time understanding that. lol... I love this little quote by the man who wrote "Everything I need to know, I learned in kindergarten":

"Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some." (Robert Fulghum)

Can I get an "amen"? :)

PS No photoshop "magic" was used to create this image. Be impressed....and I won't tell you how much of that precious time I wasted playing with the Scrabble tiles. :)

When I thought of connections, I immediately thought of the love we share as a family. And that made me think of this quote.

The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

Our Daily Challenge - "Watch or Watching":

I have been watching and admiring Nina's Clicks photostream for a long time. She has a way of capturing the most ordinary street scenes in an extraordinary way. I particularly love the Parisian street cafes she photographs, so when I wandered into this empty cafe while I was waiting for my daughter at the Arboretum today, I had to shoot it. Hat's off to Nina for her work. I cannot come close, but had fun trying. And the fellow sweeping the floors was definitely watching me. I think there are not too many park visitors photographing the tables when there are so many beautiful flowers outside. lol

207/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Nut":

I've known for a while that it's heart healthy to eat a handful of nuts every day, but they're awfully high in calories. I LOVE them...so I cold easily overdo. I learned something tho' just this week. Pistachios are lower in calories than other nuts...significantly lower. A single serving is 49 nuts, vs. only 18 for cashews. I did a little research before posting and learned that pistachios are also higher in protein, fiber, Thiamin, Vitamin B-6, Beta-Carotene, and potassium....AND lower in fat. Who knew??? This commercial was brought to you by ODC. lol.

Sorry to post and run, but I'll be back for comments tonight. I'm headed out to buy an iPhone!!! :) Have wanted one for a long time and am finally going to act on it. 365/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "A Favorite Thing":

Well, I was gonna do a big ole bokeh shot, but since it's the end of my 365, I wanted a bit more of a finale...so I'm going with photography as a favorite thing! One year ago, I posted my first pic www.flickr.com/photos/53354298@N05/5373565903/in/set-7215... to Our Daily Challenge with the idea that I would post when I could and skip when I couldn't. Little did I know how compulsive I would become. There was not one day that I missed the challenge. And what have I learned? Top 10:

10. I still have a lot to learn! ...but I do know my way around my camera better.

9. Processing is an interesting extension of the art. I'm grateful to have been introduced to texture, vintage, special effects, layers, etc. There's a lot I still want to learn!

8. I am more competitive and compulsive than I realized. I went to great lengths for many challenges. I've locked myself in a dark bathroom to shoot little green men, made myself sick trying to capture incense smoke (FAIL), gotten muddy and wet laying on the ground, embarrassed myself in front of the neighbors, spent more money than I care to admit on photography gear and props, and gained a few pounds from eating said props.

7. I have a great family and they deserve a medal for putting up with me and this project. The shout of rejoicing for completion may be heard around the world! I also owe thanks to my students for frequently modeling for me.

6. Common interests create bonds, even when the distance is great. It's amazing to see others answer the same challenges from as far away as Russia, Pakistan, France, England, Australia, etc.! I'm humbled and thankful for all who took time to view, comment and fave my work. I've learned from you and been inspired and I'm grateful for new friends.

5. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. When you're posting every day, every pic cannot be a "winner". It's about the process, not the product and I learned from the "failures" as well as the "successes".

4. It's good to try new things, even if it doesn't "float my boat". I would have never attempted some things, had it not been for the challenges. Sometimes, I actually wound up liking it! :)

3. Perfectionism stifles creativity. I don't think I realized how much this tendency is alive in me. I'm still learning that imperfection is part of the process and valuable in its own right.

2. I'm still discovering "who I am" as an artist. I think my photos changed significantly over the course of the year. It gives me joy when others comment that they recognize my work from the thumbnail. I hope that means I'm finding my voice and not that I'm becoming boring.

1. Life is worth a closer look! Looking through a lens has opened my eyes to the wonder all around me. God created so much splender for us to enjoy!

What's next??? I'm not sure. I know I need a break from the self imposed pressure of a daily post. I also know I'll miss it...so I hope to find a balance. I'll definitely be picking up my camera, but need to give attention to other areas of my life that have been neglected during this project.

Finally, I want to thank Helen for her help in creating this image. when I saw her amazing finale photo www.flickr.com/photos/hellsbells75/6607636417/in/photostream, I knew I wanted to try for something similar, but how? She was kind enough to share her process. She executed it far better AND she's a younger, cuter model! lol... I know this isn't perfect...I see all the things I'd like to change, but I've already spent considerable time on it and I'm done. (see numbers 3 and 5 above). lol... At any rate, I had fun looking through my entire project to pick some of my faves for today's topic.
