As part of a partnership between University of Iowa Health Care STEM Education programs and Workplace Learning Connection, 19 students from various high schools in the area visited the UI Health Sciences campus to participate in a Physician Assistant Interest Day. These high school group job shadow days allow students to explore particular fields in a group setting based on the student’s interest. Student experiences included learning about the #2 ranked Physician Assistant Program in the nation here at the University of Iowa. Students also engaged in a hands-on activity to better understand what types of things a PA does on a day-to-day basis by putting splints on each other.
University of Iowa Health Care is committed partners with formal and informal educators and community organizations across the state to advance STEM literacy to inspire the next generation of health care professionals and build a foundation for children to understanding their own health. In FY2015, more than 16,000 school age children were engaged in hands on learning provided by 260 faculty, staff and students.
