Through an opening in a heavy door, a shaft of light falls onto the shining surface of the white linoleum floor of a pristine laboratory. The glowing shaft stretches wider and the black silhouette of Phillip Toledano moves into the room. Phillip Toledano is an experimental research scientist studying fantastic and absurd freaks. He sedates the creatures and removes them from their cages to pose them for archival photos. Somehow Creative Tempest got a hold of a few of these pictures, and we’re releasing them onto the web for you. Find out more at www.creativetempest.com

On this day, the single most important issue in the world was whether I could precisely focus on the screw with my Leica M9 and a 35mm manual-focus lens!
Above: actual pixels at 100%. Below: full frame, showing the crop. This falls into the category of "Things That May Make Sense Only To Me!"

The beautiful Phillips Wash as seen from the cliff ledges making my way to Maverik Bridge (which I never ended up finding).
A photo of my Phillips 66 sign taken in darkness to get the glowing effect.
An excellent gallery of highway shields can be seen here.
Phillips Brooks.... there's a statue of him outside of Trinity Church. He also has a smaller statue amongst the saints lining the top entrances....
I thought he was just a clergyman..... a little trip to Wikipedia tells me he was a Bishop of Boston.... AND was canonized... so I guess he's up in the right place with the saints.

Riding around Foster Road, I found this Phillips Roaster locked up in front of a bike shop. Single speed, rod brakes. Love the bottle generator and headlamp. And check out the coils on the saddle.

This is one of the two stations closest to my house, along with the Shell across the street. This was originally a Phillips 66 station. I don't know when that ended, but it was a Fina throughout the 90s. Pure took over sometime around the turn of the century and operated until 2007, when the pumps were removed. Gas was never the main source of income for this station, which is a well-known neighborhood car repair place.
