Took me forever to see this thing, although it was pretty much right before my eyes. Don't understand why. Incredibly effective camouflage when you don't know that you're looking for, which I wasn't. You don't believe me, do you?

Phelsuma laticauda Phelsuma laticauda laticauda (Gekkonidae) Distribution: Found throughout the humid regions of Madagascar; also on some Comoros Islands and on Farquhar atoll in the Seychelles; introduced to the Hawaiian Islands. Habitat: Found in forest and cultivated habitats, especially on palms and banana trees. Often seen in gardens, and on and occasionally in houses. Rarely found in dense forests.

These attractively coloured day geckoes have four black spots on their bodies. These two individuals were on a lovely Travellers' Palm, which is native to Madagascar. Ranomafana National Park. October 28, 2010.
