Gold Dust Day Gecko

(Phelsuma laticauda)

 

A dozen or so of these cute creatures share my apartment with me. They eat bugs, and love it when I set out papaya for them.

 

Several species of gecko call Hawai'i home. Originally native to Madagascar, the Gold Dust Day Gecko arrived in the islands sometime in the 1940's, probably aboard US military ships; they are now common in and around human habitations.

Cattle Egrets (Bulbulcus ibis) gathered to scavenge what they could during a house demolition. This one caught a Gold-dust Day Gecko (Phelsuma laticauda). Waialua, Oahu, HI.

As we were leaving the botanical gardens I noticed this gecko on a post. I think it's the Seychelles Small Day Gecko, Phelsuma astriata astriata
