Taken for Active Assignment Weekly: What do you dream about?
I wanted to paint you guys a picture of surreal dreams I have while sleeping, but I couldn't figure out how, so I decided to instead paint you a picture of the dream that fills my waking hours. Still so much to do before I get there...
What it took: I tried for a sort of dreamy, ghostly, not quite there effect with the dof and lighting. Since I obviously don't have this degree yet, this is actually my master's diploma laid atop my master's thesis. Since master's theses are actually quite a lot thinner than PhD dissertations, I carefully arranged the lighting so it wasn't immediately clear how big the book is, although there's a little hint of shadow left to give you a clue.
Belle had some abusive owners in a previous life that left her very hungry and in hot cars, so she has mastered the art of staring you in the face whenever you're cooking, eating, or even composting food.
They said it was SIMPLE - it was to to get this far in ten minutes.
1- download, install PHD program.
2- attach a non-discript USB webcam to computer (cost $10 at fair)
3- got lucky in selecting camera in PHD menu.

Can't wait to try on scope and stars.
I see a possible problem with exposure times, but happy for now.

“It took me five years. My PhD was in English. Specifically how creative writing works as an academic discipline. When it was going well, research and writing was my favourite thing to do. Nothing is as pleasing as figuring out and explaining something new. But when it was going bad, it was tough. I don’t think anyone comes through a PhD entirely unscathed by mental health problems. Especially now, when universities are so stretched and funding is so scarce. I really had to learn that it’s okay to ask for help. Even when it feels like you’re imposing on someone’s time. At the moment I’m preparing for my viva. Having spent so long feeling all-or-nothing about the thesis, it’s difficult to reset.”
