These roses were (obviously) bought ages ago, but I kept them for the purpose of taking some shots. Time and light have been the constraining factors in the last few weeks (when I had the time there was no light and when there was light no time etc ) yesterday I briefly had both. There’s no direct sunlight into this part of the kitchen at this time of the year, but there was some reflective light which had some stunning effects on the roses ( a photo that will be uploaded another day).

Thanks for stopping

In recent weeks I have been working on a project called Reflected Petals. This has involved taking a top-down image of a flower and then using mirror distortions to create a symmetric design. If the starting image has plenty of detail and some colour contrast you get some really interesting results.

I’ll eventually get around to sharing the outcomes of the project here on Flickr (though I have already published pictures like this over the years).

Ironically this particular image is not part of the main project, but something I did last night when I was bored and desperately trying to think of something to do for Sliders Sunday today. I should have really been going to bed…

Normally I would use the Distort > Mirror filter in Affinity, but here I used the Chromebook running an Android app called Mirrorlab. This program is great fun to play with (if you like that sort of thing), but you soon drift far away from visual reality…

This image is based on a picture of an ox-eye daisy that I published here seven months ago. The quickest way to get a suitable starting image on to the Chromebook last night was to download it from Flickr. I’ll publish a link to the in-camera image as usual in my first comment.

I like this result because of all the woven petals - that’s not an effect you would get in Affinity. Like a lot of these distorted images, most of the beauty comes from the original flower, and the repetition and distortion encourage you to look more closely at what nature has already achieved.

I hope you enjoy it anyway. Normal, undistorted service will resume tomorrow :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Sliders Sunday :)

Rain drops on the petals

Upon a common summer’s morn –

A flask of Dew - A Bee or two –

A Breeze - a caper in the trees –

And I’m a Rose!

Un sepalo – o un petalo – e una spina

In un comune mattino d’estate –

Un fiasco di rugiada – Un’Ape o due –

Una brezza – un frullare in mezzo agli alberi –

E io sono una rosa!

A photo of a lovely geranium photographed at Reiman Gardens in Ames, Iowa. This single isolated flower caught my eye... a pretty little thing.

The delicacy of the stamen and petals of this brightly colored flower caught my eye. Found in the Palmengarten in Frankfurt.

I don't usually shoot flowers but had my old Minolta MC 50mm f/1.7 lens on the X-T20. Shot at f/1.7.

I adore Lilies, this one is part of an anniversary bouquet. I love the close up texture of the "spikes" on the petals, I wonder what their purpose is? HTT!

For FlickrFriday #Care

For a days I was thinking about what to choose for the theme of "care" whether caring for birds, my dogs, garden, orchard, nature, and of course my family.

And then by chance, as I was picking and packing dry rose petals, I realized that what I was done back then was because of one of the few situations where I only take care of myself.

I carry these jars with dry scented petals in the bathroom.

Imagine a winter Sunday evening, a hot tub with sea salt and aromatic lavender oil, lots of soapy bubbles, these beautiful petals floating around bubbles and quiet music in background.

On the other days of the week I take a shower but on Sundays the bathroom becomes the place of my mental and physical care.

After that, I feel like reborn.

Have a great day and thank you for visiting.

You know I just had to do one of my flowers in sepia! I love the way it makes it even more delicate IMHO anyway!

A yellow photo for the Dyxum.com July Colour Festival

Explore #77 - July 15, 2009 - Thank you!

This is the sunflower that’s been late for the summer.

Most days this week I’ve tried to go out to get a decent shot of this flower. But it’s either been wet, windy or wet and windy. This day it was windy, so rather than the usual wait patiently and wait for the wind to die down I thought I’d go for the a an let’s shoot anyway and see what turns up. Loads of blurred shots let me tell you! However there were just a few shots that were in somewhat in focus. This is one such shot.
