Let's jump in with an animal shot, and start with the 'giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis), an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant. Its species name refers to its camel-like shape and its leopard-like colouring.' wiki
To the extent I could, I tried to capture the various animals in unique poses. This one immediately caught my eye, as it reminded me of a periscope being raised.
Thanks for looking!

From a bundle of glass negatives. Unclear if they were made by one or more photographers. The location is probably on the German-French or German-Belgian border at the time of the First World War or earlier.
Although it never strays too far, while mom is trying to get a moments peace, the calf makes passes back and forth in the spring run.

The lobby of Bjarke Ingels' 1200 Intrepid, in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, functions as a periscope, spotting docked ships several blocks away.
As far as I know, this is a Ghost Crab, Ocypode ceratophthalm or maybe Ocypode quadrata. They are also known locally as Sand Crab, White Crab or Mole Crab, one of dozens of crab species that live along the Gulf Coast. Ghost Crabs are so called because the overall colour matches that of the sand. In fact, I never saw this one until almost stepping on the creature. That made it break cover for safety where it then 'froze' amongst some vegetation.
The periscope of the American submarine USS Dallas cuts through the surface as HMS Illustrious sails past in the morning haze.
HMS Illustrious, RFA Fort Victoria, RFA Fort Austin, USS Bulkeley and the American Los Angeles Class Submarine USS Dallas took part in a joint anti submarine exercise in the Middle East.
The aims of the exercise is to develop maritime interoperability by exercising Anti-Submarine Warfare tactics with US allies in the challenging sonar environment of the warm and shallow waters of the Gulf region.
The exercise was broken down into three phases. The ships and submarines initially tested acoustic and non-acoustics sensor performance against known positions, gaining useful real life data for the region.
The second phase relied on the ships escorting HMS Illustrious as the Mission Essential Unit (MEU) along a passage whilst evading detection and simulated torpedo attacks by USS Dallas.
In the final phase USS Dallas tried to locate and destroy RFA Fort Austin as the MEU, in a holding box which simulated an anchorage, as the UK and US naval ships provided protection. Additional helicopter support to the ships was ably provided by the Anti-Submarine sonar dipping Merlins embarked in HMS Illustrious and USS Bulkeley’s Seahawk, with Westminster’s Mark 8 Lynx helicopter providing an additional surface search and weapon carrying capability.

I find the Double-crested Cormorant's blue eyes fascinating. Cormorants are large diving birds that swim underwater to fish. Often, they will surface with their bodies still under water, with their long neck and head out of the water, like a periscope, then back down again.
They are often seen on land or in trees, wings spread to dry their feathers in the sun. This one was seen in a lagoon at J.N.Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel, Florida.
