La forme caractéristique de son bec nous indique que le pinson des arbres est un granivore. Toutefois, il ne faut pas se fier uniquement aux apparences. Cet oiseau est une exception dans sa famille. S'il se nourrit habituellement de graines de l'automne au printemps, il est aussi insectivore, surtout durant la période de reproduction. Il n'est pas rare non plus de le voir se délecter de la sève s'écoulant des blessures des arbres, de jeunes pousses et bourgeons et de diverses baies. Ce qui en fait au final un omnivore.
Na een lange periode van slecht weer zou het vandaag en morgen eindelijk weer eens zonnig worden. Gelukkig liet de agenda het toe vandaag een vrije dag op te nemen en zo werd er in de omgeving van Haaften wat rond gehangen. Aan het eind van de dag kwam dan eindelijk ook een echte klapper voorbij. In het allerlaatste licht komt de mooi schone 475 410 van BLS Cargo voorbij met een omgeleide CargoBeamer trein naar Gekkengraaf.

This 1960 Aston Martin DB4GT, driven by Urs and Arlette Muller, was sporting a set of black wire wheels at the Goodwood Revival instead of its usual Borrani silver set I've seen it with previously, adding a sense of menace to the car that was previously missing. It also looks like the suspension has been worked on as well, with the car sitting slightly lower than normal (although this may be the combination of wheels/offset/angle of shot that give this illusion).
I've struggled to find any information about this DB4GT, so don't know its provenance, although I think its likely to be a continuation/replica given that there were only 75 genuine DB4GT's produced, 6 of which were in the lightweight spec where aluminium was used along with some extensive drilling of solid parts and stripping of luxury items such as the radio, clock, window washer bottle and bumpers.
A number of standard DB4GT's were brought closer to the lightweight spec after they were produced, but its not clear how extensive this was in terms of fitting of aluminium panels or the drilling of the chassis members.
The DB4GT itself is shorter in the wheelbase by 5 inches compared to the regulat DB4, and features closed headlights abd the larger bonnet vent. In keeping with Aston Martins luxury ethos, the DB4GT's were still fitted with leather upholstery and wilton carpets, something I'm sure was soon replaced or removed by owners keen to further improve performance.

Cette nouvelle unité de mesure voulue par les révolutionnaires allait remplacer les anciennes telles que le pouce et le pied qui souvent avait pour référence le roi et qui variaient d’une région à l’autre. La Convention adopta définitivement le mètre comme unité de longueur officielle le 7 avril 1795. Entre février 1796 et décembre 1797, on plaça dans les lieux les plus fréquentés de Paris 16 mètres étalons gravés dans le marbre afin de familiariser les parisiens à cette nouvelle unité de mesure. Il n’en reste aujourd’hui que deux, celui du 36 rue Vaugirard est le seul qui soit resté à son emplacement d’origine, le deuxième se trouve au 13 de la Place Vendôme.

Intanto il sole cala, scende e disegna nel cielo un rosso da paura, e forse ci racconta che il senso di questi giorni non l'abbiamo ancora capito bene, siamo sordi nell'animo e non c'è apparecchio acustico che tenga, per ascoltare gli altri si deve sentire con altre orecchie, e se non si è abituati a usarle beh c'è poco da fare, sono atrofizzate, e difficilmente si potranno riattivare!

Its quite a tricky photograph to take when the cars are opened wheeled, as the temptation is to ramp up the shutter speed to get a sharp image, but this then makes the car appear stationary, hence the reason this shot is not quite tack sharp but I like it for the way the driver appears to be looking directly at me while I take the shot.

KALDENKIRCHEN // Traditioneel vertrekt er in de periode december tot februari wekelijks een skitrein uit Den Haag richting Oostenrijk onder de naam 'Alpen Express'. Opvallend genoeg reed men in het seizoen van 2022/23 enkel op 25 februari richting de Alpen, een merkwaardig aantal. In Venlo werd er van locomotief gewisseld, net als tijdens het voorgaande seizoen zou de 110 459 uit Crailsheim de trein van tractie voorzien om de grens over te komen. Nadat ik vorig jaar in Venlo stond voor dezelfde trein, werd besloten om het dit jaar eens over de grens in Kaldenkirchen te proberen..
Het zou een avond worden waarbij het geduld aardig op de proef gesteld werd. Eenmaal onderweg per auto samen met een bekende, werd duidelijk dat de trein al met fikse vertraging zou vertrekken; het geheel had de Watergraafsmeer nog niet eens verlaten, tijd zat voor een maaltijd in Venlo dus. De TUI Ski Express zou diezelfde avond nog een keer via Venlo rijden door de enkelsporige beschikbaarheid van het baanvak naar Emmerich. 'De vorige keer was deze ook alweer gauw pleite, dus hou er rekening mee' - het werd dus 50/50. Helaas zat het ons niet mee bij de TUI-trein, die na 3 seconden alweer koers zette richting Viersen. De Alpen Express moest en zou dus slagen om er nog een redelijke avond van te maken, echter weer met (zoals gezegd) aardig wat geduld.. de trein was Utrecht pas bijna door.
Een aantal flauwe grappen, allerlei soorten gespreksonderwerpen en een plan voor een geïmproviseerd bos verder was de trein intussen in Venlo gearriveerd.. 23:30. De 110 stond intussen voor de trein en met het laatste sprankje hoop begonnen we af te tellen. Toen de trein Venlo verliet - het markante fluitje was aan de grens te horen - was de uitrijder nog rood.. en hij bleef rood... nog wat langer zelfs.. resulterend in een ruime stop op het desolate grensstation van Kaldenkirchen. Eindelijk was de trein in zicht, evenals de gehoopte foto van de fraaie 110 459 met Alpen Express 13489 naar Bludenz. Bij aankomst schreven we intussen zaterdag 25 februari, middernacht. Met zo'n +140 vertrok de 110 459 vrolijk fluitend richting het zuiden, richting Rheydt alwaar de volgende locwissel met de 182 596 op de planning stond. Ruim 5 uur verder werd er moe maar voldaan richting de Achterhoek vertrokken; een avond die niet snel meer vergeten wordt.

1923 Locomobile, Model 48 from the Nickel period. $9000 dollars when new in 1923!
Locomobile was one of the earliest manufacturers in the advent of the automobile age. For the first two years after it's founding in 1899, the company was located in Watertown Massachusetts. In 1900, production was transferred to Bridgeport, Connecticut where it remained until the company's demise in 1929. The example above is a 1923 Model 48 touring car, and a very original example that had been owned by one family for over 60 years. Power is provided by a 525ci T-head 6 cylinder engine that is rated at a true 100hp. President Warren G. Harding had the exact some car and model during his tenure in the White House.
Model 48 and the Durant years
The most important for the marque became the impressive Model 48. Introduced in 1911 as the "type M," it had a very conservative, perhaps dated, concept. It had a conventional but huge chassis with a wheelbase of 143 inches (3,632 mm). Its engine was a straight six with side valves; cylinders were still cast in pairs and it featured a nonremovable cylinder head. Displacement was 429.4 cu in (7.0 L), from a 41⁄2+ in × 41⁄2+ in (114 mm × 114 mm) bore and stroke, giving it a 48.6-hp tax rating by the North American Chamber of Commerce. While called the "M" internally, this car is usually referred to by its tax hp rating. The brake horsepower rating was somewhere north of 90 for the original model, higher in the later versions. Quality of materials and workmanship were impeccable and among the best in the world. Such was also its pricing: A typical open-body cost about $10,000 when the average Model T Ford Phaeton cost about $300. Locomobile also offered custom designs for the lamps and metal work, carried out by Tiffany Studios. Until 1915, left- or right-hand drive could be specified; afterwards, left-hand drive became standard. Right-hand drive cars were meant for export and sat on a chassis four inches shorter. Around 1919, the engine was updated with a longer 51⁄2+ in (140 mm) stroke, for 525 cu in (8.6 L) displacement while retaining the same tax hp rating.
A smaller "38 hp" model, very similar to the Model 48, was added in 1913. The model 38 has a 425 cu in (7.0 L), 62 bhp (46 kW) version of the T-head six and sits on a somewhat shorter 140 inches (3,556 mm) wheelbase. By 1914, Locomobile had stopped selling all four-cylinder models to concentrate exclusively on sixes.
In July 1922, Locomobile was acquired by Durant Motors, which not only continued using the Locomobile brand name for their top-of-the-line autos until 1929, but also still produced the Model 48 until its demise in 1929. Until the mid-1920s, this car was Locomobile's only offering. In 1925, the marque brought out their first new model, the 8-66 Junior Eight, with a more contemporary straight-eight engine, and more importantly, a lower price of $1,785.
Pipit spioncelle (Anthus spinoletta)

Le pipit spioncelle mesure environ 17 centimètres et a une envergure de 23 à 28 centimètres pour un poids d'environ 23 g. Il a un corps gris-brun avec des pattes noires. Il a le sourcil blanc ainsi que les rectrices externes. En période nuptiale, il a la poitrine légèrement rosé. Les deux sexes sont identiques. Les jeunes sont plus tachetés que les adultes.
En hiver, avec sa poitrine rayée, le pipit spioncelle ressemble au pipit farlouse mais il s'en distingue par les cris.
À la belle saison, il vit en altitude et à l'automne, il redescend en plaine au bord des lacs, étangs, marais et autres cours d'eau, ce qui lui donne son nom de Water Pipit chez nos amis Anglais !

View from Iidabashi Station (飯田橋駅) toward southwest with the stone base of Ushigome-mitsuke checkpoint (牛込見附) and the Sotobori moat installed with the railway tracks of Chuuou Line.

Despite intensive urban development, this area retains the original appearance of the citadel and Sotobori. The road in the photo leads to the Tayasu-mon gate of Kitanomaru compound where Budokan is located.
Mitsuke (見附) is a gate with a checkpoint often combined with a bridge over the moat. There were 8 gates in Edo, which were called -mitsuke. Similar checkpoints were often called -mon (門 gate) like Kita Hanebashi-mon and Hirakawa-mon.
Sotobori had been the physical boundary of the Samurai area during the Edo Period, which almost overlaps the present-day Chiyoda City except for the Kanda area that was part of Shitamachi, the downtown and commoners' area.
The left half of this photo belongs to Chiyoda City. Shinjuku City across the moat in the right and Bunkyou City outside of the frame are located outside of Sotobori. I don't know which City Iidabashi Station belongs to.
It was a silly conduct that the local governments of Bunkyou
and Shinjuku Cities decided to fill a short section of the outer moat in the opposite direction of this photo despite its historical, architectural and cultural importance of the neighbourhood.
The highly tangled-up intersection as uploaded previously is also located on the opposite side of Iidabashi Station.
Shafts of light help illuminate a bird of paradise in a shaded garden at the Fairview Hotel in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. La vida de un “cotilla” es muy sacrificada y en verano roza casi lo tormentoso.
Los cotillas no dejamos de ser unos soñadores, seres muy alejados de las palabras que fija la Real Academia de la Lengua como chismosas y parlanchinas, todo lo contrario, intentamos averiguar el porqué de las cosas, de ciertas actitudes, el intríngulis de ciertos comportamientos.

Íbamos todos camino de las Islas Cíes en un barco atestado de turistas.
Y de pronto apareció ella, brillando con luz propia sobre un mar de fondo completamente azul.
Y bajo un violento sol, una luz oblicua derramaba destellos nacarados en su pelo negro azabache.
Hay que reconocer que era una morenaza de muy buen ver, vamos, una chica de portada de revista, espléndida, solemne.
Un servidor elogiaba su fina elegancia, una auténtica reprimenda para mentes que ya creían haberlo visto todo.
Calculando a ojo, no tendría más de treinta y pocos años.
Hablaba por teléfono y me hubiera gustado estar un poco más cerca de ella, pero un vientecillo fresco me traía palabras sueltas, frases inconexas que mi imaginación descifraba de inmediato con cierta coherencia.
Al principio no entendía nada, pero poco a poco empecé a entenderlo todo.
Hablaba con el noviete, de eso no cabía la menor duda.
- No me fío de ti ni un pelo Carlos, siempre me has dado mala espina, aparte de que siempre has sido un auténtico sinvergüenza.
Ya tenía varios datos, el sujeto se llamaba Carlos y era un presunto sinvergüenza.
La cosa se ponía interesante.
-Por descontado que esta noche iré al BUDA y te cantaré las cuarenta a la cara y muy clarito Carlos para que no quede ningún género de duda.
Te dejo que ya hemos llegado a las Cíes, nos vemos esta noche, canalla.
Hay que reconocer que la chica tenía gran aplomo y cierto carácter.
La seguí entre pasarelas de madera y bellos pinares.
Ya en la playa, se quitó sus sandalias, se quitó su falda completamente negra, y su camisa, completamente blanca y quedó en un bikini que lo enseñaba todo y a la vez no enseñaba nada.
Tenía unas magníficas piernas, demoledoras, diría yo.
La miraba y la miraba y no daba crédito……y en eso me quedé dormido.
Al despertar ella ya no estaba.
Volví al muelle y vi partir barcos y más barcos, pero en ninguno estaba ella.
Cogí el último barco y una cosa tenía muy clara, esa noche estaría en el Buda. ¡Vamos, como hay dios ¡
A las once de la noche hacía guardia en la puerta del BUDA.
Sobre las doce llegaron ellos. El Carlitos era guapo, las cosas como son, pero ella iba con un traje sastre de chaqueta, chaleco y pantalón azul marino de corte muy masculino, una camisa de raya diplomática y un cinturón negro haciendo juego con unos zapatos de cordones.
La quintaesencia de la pura elegancia. Radiante, solo faltaba una alfombra roja para resaltar tanta belleza.
Me senté lo más cerca posible de ellos y me llegaba un aroma fresco a flor de naranja, a madera de cedro…..a vainilla.
No podía oír gran cosa por la música, pero siempre quedan los gestos…..y los gestos siempre son muy elocuentes.
En un momento dado ella se levantó y dijo:
-¡Y una leche ¡ Ahí te quedas.
Eso lo escuché perfectamente. El hizo ademán de retenerla, pero ella de un manotazo retiró la mano de él.
Y se marchó.
Y yo la seguí.
Pero en un cruce de calles la perdí de vista. Volví sobre mis pasos con la esperanza de encontrarla, pero en vano.
Me hubiera gustado saber su nombre……por todo, por nada.

Van 6 t/m 9 september ben ik samen met mijn treinenspotmaat voor vier dagen naar Tsjechië geweest. Voor deze periode werd erg fraai weer voorspeld voor een deel van Europa en daarom werden er op het laatste moment plannen gemaakt om weer wat fraais op te rollen in één van ons favoriete treinenlanden. We hadden van te voren nog de grootste moeite om onze werkagenda's leeg te vegen en oppas te vinden, maar het lukte op het laatste moment toch nog. Er werd een dag in het Elbe-dal bij Ústí nad Labem genoten van het landschap en de treinen, twee dagen in het midden van het land doorgebracht en de laatste dag werd een Bardotka-jacht gecombineerd met wederom de regio Ústí nad Labem.
De Bardotka-jacht werd bij Tišice naar zeer grote tevredenheid afgerond. Twee fraaie Bardotka;s kwamen mooi in het zonnetje langs pruttelen. Als bonus werden een sneltrein van Arriva met de dieseltreinstellen van de serie 845 (voormalige DB 628) en een stoptrein met de serie 854 meegepakt. Op het lijngedeelte tussen Neratovice en Všetaty worden verder ook nog sneltreinen met een 750.7 ingezet waarbij de loc altijd aan de Praagse kant hangt.
Hier zien we de Arriva 845 305-2 en 845 309-4 (ex-DB 628 272‑6/928 272‑3 en 628 206‑4/928 206‑1) passeren als sneltrein R 1144 Praha hlavní nádraží-Tanvald bij Tišice op 9-9-2023. Leuk om deze klassiekers van de DB in actie te zien in Tsjechië al was de treindienst die Čd uitvoerde met een afwisseling van 854, 750.5, 754 of 749 een stuk spannender.
11 000 large scallop shells were used as roof tiles, with a further 4,500 crushed into aggregate for the building's concrete front patio. This summer refuge was constructed towards the end of the loop known as the 'Circuit des cabanes' in Limognes-en-Quercy, on the high plateau above the river Lot. Over 20 shepherd's huts and cabanes, along with many associated walls were restored by a talented team over a period of some 20 years. The quality of their work certainly deserved recognition and financial support, as the 'petit patrimoine' of the Occitanie is in much need of skill-set, raw material and chronophage purpose. The above building offers new lines and is the second example of modern refuge, or sleep-over point along the Europes main pilgrim's path to north west Spain. A second example - Super-Cayrou (linked below) - helps to add dynamic to the subject of dry stone. The above 'Pecten Maximus' project is not without interest, despite an entrance that perhaps feels closer to 'residential supplement' than rural practicality.

Ayr is a town situated on the southwest coast of Scotland. A former royal burgh, today it is the administrative centre of South Ayrshire Council, and the historic county town of Ayrshire. With a population of 46,982, Ayr is the 15th largest settlement in Scotland and second largest town in Ayrshire by population. The town is contiguous with the smaller town of Prestwick to the north. Ayr submitted unsuccessful bids for city status in 2000 and 2002, and as part of the wider South Ayrshire area in 2022.
Ayr was established as a Royal Burgh in 1205 and is the county town of Ayrshire. It served as Ayrshire's central marketplace and harbour throughout the medieval period[8] and was a port during the early modern period. On the southern bank of the River Ayr sit the ramparts of a citadel constructed by Oliver Cromwell's men during the mid-17th century. Towards the south of the town is the birthplace of Scottish poet Robert Burns in the suburb of Alloway. Ayr has been a popular tourist resort since the expansion of the railway in 1840 owing to the town's fine beach and its links to golfing and Robert Burns.
Ayr is one of the largest retail centres in the south of Scotland and in 2014 was recognised by the Royal Society for Public Health as the second healthiest town centre in the United Kingdom. Ayr has hosted the Scottish Grand National horseracing steeplechase annually since 1965 and the Scottish International Airshow annually since 2014. The town also accommodates the headquarters of the Ayr Advertiser and Ayrshire Post newspapers.
A torrential rain period is about over now in Suriname. Because of this, the country had to open the floodgates of its main reservoir called Afobaka Dam that produces nearly all the electricity of the country. But opening the floodgates affect the level of the river and a lot of the neighboring constructions such as the Bergendal Resort in Brokopondo, Suriname.

We arrived a little bit late, & the sky was quite dull, but it was still a joy to behold this iconic Scottish sea loch castle.
Castle Stalker – in the Gaelic, Stalcaire, meaning Hunter or Falconer – is believed originally to have been the site of a Fortalice (a small fortified building) belonging to the MacDougalls when they were Lords of Lorn, and built around 1320. The MacDougalls lost their title after their defeat by King Bruce at Brander Pass in 1308 but regained it for a period after 1328. In about 1388 the Lordship of Lorn passed to the Stewarts, the lands including Castle Stalker.
Un nouveau et beau quartier de Heerlen : le Maankwartier. Avec ce projet spécial, Heerlen doit retrouver son âme. C'est en tout cas la démarche du plasticien et designer du Maankwartier Michel Huisman. Le projet a été baptisé « Maankwartier » car, selon l'artiste, les choses allaient si mal pour la ville que dans les périodes sombres, la lumière ne pouvait venir que de la lune. Aussi sombre que soit la situation décrite par l'artiste, le Maankwartier est tout aussi dynamique quand on y jette un coup d'œil.
L'architecture des bâtiments du Maankwartier fait référence à l'ancienne industrie minière de Heerlen et de ses environs. Et l'ancienne industrie minière se reflète également dans le projet d'une autre manière particulière : l'ensemble du Maankwartier est relié à l'eau de mine des anciennes mines. "C'est un beau projet, où l'aspect industriel se reflète non seulement dans la conception, mais aussi dans l'utilisation de l'eau de mine", déclare avec enthousiasme Sjoerd Parren, chef de projet chez Mijnwater BV. Mijnwater veillera à ce que les maisons, les magasins, bureaux et L'hôtel du Maankwartier est chauffé et refroidi et l'eau chaude du robinet est fournie. Une grande attention a déjà été accordée au concept d’eau de mine dans les précédentes Enervisions. En plus de l'utilisation des eaux de mine, l'ensemble du Maankwartier est construit selon les principes de la construction durable. L’objectif est de réduire considérablement les pertes d’énergie. En outre, une attention particulière est accordée à la réutilisation locale du chaud et du froid.
