Sometimes, reflections add a dimension to reality that only deepens our perception of that reality. Here, baskets of tulips float among the sprawling branches of a southern live oak. Taken last year from a pond at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina.

In "Labyrinth of Perception," the viewer is invited to navigate an immersive environment where geometry and colour playfully distort the boundaries of space and reality. This installation explores the interplay between the observer and the observed, challenging the conventional notions of perspective and dimensionality. The bold, intersecting lines and vibrant hues are designed to evoke a sense of disorientation and curiosity, prompting a deeper reflection on how we perceive and interpret our surroundings. As you traverse the corridors, allow yourself to become absorbed in the rhythmic patterns, letting each step guide you through a journey of visual and sensory discovery.

Ukimido(浮御堂), Lake Biwa, Japan, 2016

Ukimido, or the floating pavilion, is part of the Mangetsu temple complex. That's such a cool name - Mangetsuji (満月寺). It translates to Temple of the Full Moon. I love that. If you look for it, you might be able to find a few good pictures of the pavilion with a full moon over it.

Utagawa Hiroshige made the Eight Views of Omi "ukiyoe" prints some 200 years ago of which this pavilion featured in print#7 (Omi is the southern part of Lake Biwa on the west side nearest Kyoto). The temple has a steady stream of visitors and an image of the pavilion is used on signs to greet visitors when they enter Shiga prefecture.

Perceptions about what places warrant viewing or visiting are constantly changing. I recently saw an advertisement promoting the Kansai area - Kyoto, Lake Biwa, and Nara. To my surprise, rather than the pavilion, the Lake Biwa photograph showed white summer clouds billowing up behind the red torii of Shirahige shrine . I've felt this for a while, but I think the shrine and it's torii are slowing over-taking Ukimido in popularity.

What is there for us to see?

Maybe nothing maybe all.

But when I change my

Point of view, I change my perceptions

And what I see than is new.

So maybe, we can feel this change in

Todays vibes. In the air.

So do we hide behind our masks and

Say it will all be the same?

Or do we move on with fresh perceptive?

As a "professional" (I use the term loosely), it takes some mental preparation to create something...and videotape myself creating that something...and be okay with letting others see a process that might not lead to something I'm happy with.

Here is my Monday video for this week! www.promotingpassion.com/shooting-with-instant-film/

I try to show that kind of vulnerability every week when I release my Monday videos. Every week I try to do something a little different or weird for the sake of these two outcomes:

1. Being an Artist is not about creating perfection. It is about creating, period. Trying. Failing. Innovation. Trailblazing. So, every week, I strive to be an Artist, not a Professional.

2. I want to show that you can have a career as an Artist and also not know what you're doing sometimes. It is okay to play. If we don't, we won't progress. So, every week, I'm taking you into my play-process.

This week I shot some self-portraits with my little Instax Mini camera. It was a totally new experience for me. I don't know how I feel about the final result, but truth be told, I don't really care. That's not the point. I hope you'll take a look at the video I made this week and, if you want to fulfill my hope - go out and try something you've never tried before.
