Mingle Media TV and Red Carpet Report host Stephanie Pressman were invited to cover the 35th College Television Awards at the Leonard H. Goldenson Center in Hollywood recognizing excellence in college student-produced video, digital and film work.
The 35th College Television Awards ceremony was hosted by Playing House’s Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, with Matt Bomer, of USA’s White Collar, Fox’s The New Girl, Max Greenfield, Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Scandal’s Darby Stanchfield, Revenge’s Nick Wechsler, Dexter’s Aimee Garcia, Perception’s Scott Wolf and House of Cards’ Benito Martinez. Additionally, television industry professionals from FX’s Justified writer Graham Yost, Modern Family director Gail Mancuso and voice actor Bob Bergen were also on hand to present awards and give anecdotes about the industry.
The annual event is managed by the Television Academy’s charitable arm The TV Academy Foundation which was established in 1959 to preserve and celebrate the history of television, and educate those who will shape its future.

This critter was not easy to shoot, by any means. Constantly flying back and forth within a general territorial claim, it never slowed down for even a single moment, so trying to lock in with the telescopic lens, which dramatically narrows the range of vision, was extremely difficult. I was so determined to capture this one, for we would often see it in this park, but had never been able to find it landing anywhere—a full second of two would have sufficed. Anyhow, after so many attempts, upon downloading the bunch at home, this single shot turned out to be fairly decent in representing the physical traits of the Common Green Darner, a very large species for Dragonflies.
Anyone with a fascination for the incredible engineering marvel that is the Dragonfly, cannot go wrong in paying a visit to this park during the warmer months. These highly skilled aerial acrobats are considered to be amongst the greatest hunters, with an accuracy of around 95% of capturing their intended prey. There really is nothing comparable in the art of flight designed to attack . . . And the more you observe and read about them, the more impressed you become.
If you genuinely have a love for nature, this site is a hidden gem. Nestled within the 8700(+/-) acres of the official Meadowlands (with beautiful wetlands and marshes galore), visitors have the opportunity to explore and learn about the region’s natural goings on, from the vast and amazing animal life to the fascinating plant life. The great number of bird species, both migratory and resident, enables anyone who appreciates the wonders of these winged friends some exciting experiences when at Richard DeKorte Park, a quiet sanctuary, and practically a stone’s throw away from Manhattan. There are many birders and wildlife photographers who consider this area as one of their choice places to visit. A wealth of insect species is also present, each with its own unique traits that keeps things interesting, and the furry, adorable critters, such as the muskrats, groundhogs, and occasional foxes, to name a few, along with several kinds of turtles, including the large snappers provides one with endless opportunities to observe the fascinating world of nature. Contrary to common perception amongst the general populace, you will be shocked by the wildflowers (often called weeds), for they are as lovely as the popular strands. Identifying and studying about the multitude of wild species is a challenge, but it can also be quite rewarding as you gain a bit of expertise with each outing.
Seasonal changes constantly offer fresh new looks . . . So, getting bored is rather difficult for the curious. Check out some of our ALBUMS related to the Meadowlands, including Mill Creek Marsh, Richard DeKorte Park, Mill Creek Point, Carlstadt River Barge, and Laurel Hill Park.

This image was made using an orthochromatique film simulation that I quickly ginned up. I'm looking for subtlies, smoothness of tones, and an overall softness.
I realize I could achieve something similar using the Human Perception Model B&W conversion by lowering the contrast. But, I needed to start somewhere and a friend was curious about the Ortho simulation in digital. So these are what the scenes look like when using primarily the blue channel with a touch of green.

Review:
Author Henry Tredwhitt was the diplomatic correspondent for Newsweek reporting on the Berlin crisis, the Department of Defense and Vietnam. His writing has the reporter's immediacy, a pragmatic impression of "I was there" authenticity. This volume was published in 1971. That fact was considered when I purchased this book in 2010. My purpose was to read another knowledgeable viewpoint of McNamara's shaping of defense policy and in particular the issue of our involvement in Viet Nam. Certainly the author never had access to then classified documents or the many subsequently published memoirs written by Kennedy and Johnson principals but, nonetheless, my expectation was that his first hand knowledge and perspective would give him a clear vantage point of the subject. I was not disappointed. The chapters covering Viet Nam were interesting to this reader. Although this book is subtitled "His Ordeal in the Pentagon" it also provides the reader with a detailed biography of McNamara's career and family history prior to joining the Kennedy cabinet in 1960. It should be mentioned that Kennedy first offered the post of Secretary of Defense to former secretary Robert A. Lovett; Lovett declined but recommended McNamara. The author also includes a useful history of the office of Secretary of Defense and a biographical sketch of all previous office holders. McNamara early enthusiastic support for the war was a lighting rod for harsh criticm by both the left and the right. The liberal student at Harvard booed him off the stage and Goldwater in a campaign stop in Michigan in 1964 dropped this gem: "A one time looser with the Edsel right here in Michigan, a four time looser in terms of trips to Vietnam and a all time looser if his policies and the policies of the Administration are not changed in 1964". Unearthing that quote made this book worth buying. Although Robert Strange (his mothers maiden name) McNamara public perception is that of a tediously serious efficiency expert he did have another side rarely revealed. The author tells of a costume party for Averell Harriman where McNamara showed up with his head covered in aluminum foil. That picture would be priceless. The author includes a helpful index but considering the extensive use of quotes in the text the lack of footnotes and a bibliography does diminish the usefulness of the book for research. Nonetheless I would recommend this book - particularly if you are a student of the Vietnam War and of the key individuals that shaped war policy.

A studio shoot for a perceptual piece taken as part of a photographic assingment. The image was intended to portray the effects of advertising on the way we perceive and judge people through the use of stereotypes and models.

This photo was taken in the FX terminal in front of SM Megamall. So many people were lining up, crowded in the pedestrian side, waiting for the FX to arrive. (naks, rhyming)
Seriously though, is the problem really overpopulation or just a blurry perception towards population?
A lot of people all over the world today would agree that overpopulation is indeed a hindrance to economic development in their country. This is manifested by the bills and laws that their country passed just to “control” population. Here in the Philippines, we have also our own story to share. Just recently, some of our legislators proposed a bill that aims to promote reproductive health, the House Bill 5043 or more popularly know as the “RH Bill”. The pressure to pass the bill is more pressing since the pro-bill people are claiming that this could be the solution to the widespread poverty that we are all experiencing. But then again, are we really overpopulated in the first place? Is our own populace hindering economic development in our country?
I guess the problem boils down to the misconception that everyone has towards population. People who proposed this bill seemed to tell us that there is no hope in our people. They just see them as burdens when in fact we should consider them as assets. In relation to my picture, they can say that we are overpopulated because the supply of FXs is not already enough for the people. Thus, we need to control it. Is this the way to look at things? Isn’t it that it will be proper and logically sound if we see it like this: “we need more FXs because we have a growing population”? They just cite the poor vendors and street children in the sidewalks to say that we are overpopulated and that poverty is widespread. But, they fail to see the working populace who keep our economy upfloat. They don’t appreciate the hardships that our OFW’s suffer to bring in dollar into our country. Is this the hindrance to economic development that they are talking about? I guess not. It is our labor force that fuels our economy, that keeps our economy alive, that brings progress in our country. In a country like ours where acquisition of capital is difficult, human resource is best asset and advantage that we have. We just have to develop this asset. We just need to invest on human capital and for sure, the returns that we will get will be of immense value. We just have to believe in our people and change our mindset regarding overpopulation. We are not overpopulated and our problems with poverty are not rooted in the number of people that we have: it is entrenched to our incapacitated and corrupt government.
Indeed, population is not a hindrance to economic development, as many people nowadays believe in. In fact, they are our assets that bring growth to our economy. We do not need the RH Bill. What we need is a change of mindset or way of thinking. It is precisely the failure to realize that our human resource is our greatest advantage hinders economic development.
Perception is all that there is to life...we all r diff coz we all perceive things differently!!! Best viewed LARGE!!!

Finding Oregon is the compilation of six months of timelapse photography across the state of Oregon, punctuated by a 1600 mile road trip in September. We've filmed the Columbia River Gorge, Mt Hood, Mt Jefferson, the Southwestern Coast, the Alvord Desert, Leslie Gulch, Blue Mountains, Crater Lake, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Deschutes River, and more. We're proud to have touched all four corners of the state; however Oregon is the kind of place that the more you see, the more places there are to still discover.
The greatest challenge with this project was being in the right place at the right time. Night timelapse sequences particularly have an unexpected number of requirements to get the bright, stunning payoff. First, the moon should be around the New Moon phase (no moon) so as not to compete with outshining the stars, so that means we get about 5 days a month window. Next, weather must be cooperative with a dependable expectancy of cloudless skies. Here in Oregon, only the Summer months have good chance of clear skies, so only 1/4 of the year offers good chance of clear skies. So that means, we have three months in the year, with a 5 day window each month to plan with fingers crossed for epic star shooting conditions. That's only 15 days in a year. Then, you hope that something doesn't come up in regular life to pull you away to other obligations on those few days. It is a maddening challenge getting all the factors to line up to be in the right place at the right time. But, when it does happen- it is such a satisfying feeling!
