🎵 Penguins Too 🎶
Big excitement today!!!!! This origami penguin-family is on their way to Nijmegen's cultural hot spot 'Honig' today. It's again time for the 4th Honig expedition 2018...
And believe it or not, but some human relatives called "Penquins Too" (Michiel Braam, piano and Frank Nielander, saxes) are presenting their new album 'Crime' at "Brebl".......... Here you can get an impression of their music.
All the penguins will be there, so if you want to see and hear them alive and have a meet and greet, be welcome ;-))
Model: origami 'Penguin'
Design by Taichiro Hasegawa
Diagrams in his book "Double-Sided Origami"
I folded the big ones folded from 70x70cm wrapping paper( final height 35cm) and the little penguins from 15x15cm kamipaper.
Home again now looking at my archives. Taken in Antarctica while cruising the coastline in a Zodiac. Toured with Quark Expeditions 2012 .
I'm revisiting my archives and using newer software to process. South Georgia , Gold Harbour on the way to Antarctica.

Castle Tioram is quite beautiful in all its ruination. Although scenes of Highlander, Outlander and Harry Potter were all filmed in these parts, surprisingly this castle doesn't feature in any of them. I'm thinking of making my own movie. A penquin may star. And not Pingu in the Wrong Trousers
Found at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, the penguins were diving and swimming under the water. I liked this one version with the King penguin coming at me appearing bloated with air.
They do zip fast through the water thus the bubbles and aeration through the water.
The blue hue was mainly from the aquarium lighting.
Galapagos Islands.
Galapagos penguins are relatively small compared to the other birds in their family, and they are the second smallest type of penguin – the little penguin is smaller. They weigh just 5.5 pounds and they are on average 19 inches long. They are easily recognizable as being a part of the penguin family. They have a black head with a white border. Their upper part is black grey, and the underparts are white. They also have black bands across the breast which extend down to the thigh area. The chicks have feathers that are white below and brown above, and this helps protect them from the very hot sun that can be experienced in the Galapagos Islands.

A new series of photos using a watercolor effect. Thank you to my friend Liq Carter for modeling (and for being a penquin)!!
This photo is the last of the series for now, though I am sure there will be more to come!
Shot next to the Penquin exhibit at the bottom of Africa Rocks, San Diego Zoo. In beautiful Yellows, Oranges and Reds.
When it comes to feeding time , those gulls will settle anywhere lol..

Setting up McMurdo Base
Some of the thousand or so 4x5" and 6x6cm images (negs) I saved from destruction 30 years ago.
The owner gave me permission to save them as the new buyer of his photo studio didn't want the old photo library.
These are from around 5,000 images that were in a pile on the dirty concrete floor waiting to be taken to the rubbish tip. Many are in poor condition as they are suffering from the 'vinegar effect' but I've been scanning and restoring these for many years now.
Images include New Zealand and US Antarctic bases in the IGY 1957/8, Sir Edmund Hillary, Sir Bob Hamilton and much much more.
This is a decades long project (already) and I will probably never be fully finished.
These original images were shot by Guy Mannering (deceased) and onsold to Warren Jacobs as part of the photo library attached to the business Warren bought. In the mid 1990's, when Warren retired, some friends and I (other photographers), helped him clean up the business for the incoming new owner who didn't want this old library.
When I asked Warren, he agreed that I could have them rather than sending them to the rubbish tip. (Thanks Warren)
I found folders full of images I never posted from this wonderful aquarium, butterfly house and zoo....
Thank you for your visit and I hope you like these images as much as I enjoyed going there...
And if you ever find yourself on Long Island.... it's a must see!!
Galápagos Islands (Isabella Island)
The Galápagos penguin is a particularly vulnerable bird species due to its limited range on the Galápagos Islands. With a population of only about 1800, it remains on the endangered species list, and its population will likely fluctuate strongly in response to anthropogenic changes in the region. The primary danger to the Galápagos penguin is the climate phenomena known as El Niño.

The " Britain " in front of Caernarfon Castle. It is an ex-lightship meaning it once held a large light to guide ships.
Built in 1910 in Dublin it served as a lightship originally [ Arctic Penquin ] before being converted for youth training and later bought by Viscount Shipping Line.

It was her birthday yesterday (24th March) and I missed it!
I have not been on Flickr very much lately, which is a poor excuse, but the reason why.
Thank you for your visit.
Have a great day, whatever day, you are reading this
Galapagos Islands
The Galápagos penguins are unique to the Galápagos Islands, predominantly inhabiting Fernandina Island and Isabela Island. These islands offer an environment crucial for these birds' survival and proliferation.
Young are produced throughout the year, and nests are built with rocks and twigs or within lava rock depressions within about 50 metres (about 165 feet) of the shoreline. Most breeding pairs are monogamous for life, and prolific pairs can produce up to three clutches of eggs per year, with females often laying two eggs per clutch.

Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty's Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins.
This Penquin is one of the figures on the float that carries the festival’s royalty in the Winter Carnival Parade in Whitefish Montana. This year, 2019, marks the 60 year anniversary of this nordic themed festival.
