Pendulum at Eden Sessions, June 25th 2011.

Pendulum "The Unseen Impact" is the theme for our first TEDxDamanhur event for 2016. This year we decided to choose topics about the backstage process which nobody knows about it, but everyone knows the final stage thinking it's easy to reach this stage. Hope you enjoy our photos.

Pendulum Play Wembley Arena - December 2010

The Foucault Pendulum is an experiment designed to demonstrate the rotation of the earth. In Los Angeles, at 34 degrees latitude (and change) it takes approximately 42 hours for the pendulum to make one apparent rotation around the circle. Or, more accurately, it takes about 42 hours for the earth to make one full rotation around the pendulum.

United Visual Artists: Momentum

Installed in The Curve, The Barbican Centre

Momentum consists of twelve pendulums that activate light and sound as they swing, drawing attention to the Curve’s vast arc, inviting you to journey through the space guided by your heightened senses. Each pendulum has been meticulously designed and built using steel, aluminium, and custom electronics. The sound is individual to each pendulum, prepared and tuned to seamlessly resonate as they move within the Curve.

Momentum creates an environment that has its foundations in detailed research, sophisticated computer technology and mechanical expertise. Yet, the effect is to create a space that feels wondrously transformed, one which you are invited to experience and explore.

Pendulum @ The Assembley, 23/07/09

Demonstrates the rotation of the earth. The pendulum always goes back and forth to the same spot, but the earth rotates underneath the pendulum, so the pendulum floats over progressively different numbers.

"The 240-pound brass ball, suspended by a cable 40 feet long, swings in a constant direction while the Earth turns beneath it. The pendulum is mounted to a bearing in the rotunda ceiling that does not turn with the building as it rotates with the Earth. A ring magnet at the bearing gives a little tug on each swing of the pendulum to keep the pendulum in motion. As the day passes, the pendulum knocks over pegs set up in the pendulum pit and indicates the progress of rotation."

They used to have pegs set up, but not any more after the renovation.
