There was a giant pendulum swinging over a map of the solar system tiled on the convention center floor. So naturally I had to crouch in the middle of it and take a picture looking up.

(These photos are from my trip to Portland for Webvisions 2006, a conference I attended with my friend Philip. The pendulum is in the place in which the communist government placed one huge Stalin sculpture. When the old sculpture was removed they placed this monument to the change: a Pendulum

Pendulum playing on Sziget Festival 2009

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 a.m.,

the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06.

You may now return to your (normal ?) life.

In 1583 the young Galileo Galilei (nineteen y.o.) watched the motion of the lamp that oscillated and begun to think about the law of the constant of period in the pendulum.

The present lamp is of some year later, in 1587. And it's very big and heavy to easily oscillate.

The one that Galileo watched was smaller, and simpler. And also lighter. It still exist today and it is inside the Aulla chapel in the near monumental cemetery.

Managed to catch the pendulum mid way through its swing

Thats my ripening second harvest this year! :)

Yeah, it's another one of those...

There is nothing like waking up to the sun and putting on the coffee to a view like this, and coffee never smells better.

I wish I wish I wish we could be in this scene right now.

July 24th - 31st, 2012 - We got home from the pendulum tour too early to quit for the summer so after a little off time to regroup, we took off on a small loop in northern New Mexico, exploring some new places and revisiting some old favorites.

Pendulum at the Big Day Out Melbourne 2009

Gareth McGrillen, bass player for Pendulum, performing at the Corn Exchange, Edinburgh on August 21st.

I'd heard in advance that Pendulum play with mostly backlighting, and I'd seen photos that backed this up, along with a penchant for red light. Basically, bad news for photos.

It was just that bad. We also got asked to leave the pit before 3 songs were up, which fucked with my plans to switch lens and shoot some tighter stuff in the last song.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the crowd was going mental, which is why I think we were ushered out, nothing to do with the band - I'm not having a go at anyone, band, crew or security.

The Foucault Pendulum tends to swing on the same plane while the Earth rotates on its axis underneath it. Thus, to an observer on the Earth, the pendulum appears to gradually change its direction of swing, and in so doing it knocks over a little wooden block about once every five minutes.
