The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” on the 19th of February is “my name is”, and it must be a black and white image. This made me think. When I heard the theme, I wrote my name out cursive script as I usually do. I imagined my surname, Raaen, to be like a long curling ribbon, blowing in the breeze like the tail of a kite. I decided to combine this idea with my love of illustration and drawing, including silhouettes, which I have always loved ever since I was a child looking at my faerie tale books of Arthur Rackham. I came up with this silhouette illustration of my name on a windy day. It is surrounded by the tools I used to create it: an HB grey lead pencil, an eraser, a pencil sharpener and a black felt tip pen. I do hope that you like my creative choice of the theme.

I just love this this sharpener, its limbs and head bob up and down while you sharpen...always makes me giggle!

WHEN WRITING DID NOT NEED RECHARGING
Nowadays, if we have to write a message, the main tool is definitely the smartphone or tablet, but those who are a few years older remember that our drawers were occupied by pencils, ballpoint pens and envelopes of various shapes and colors.....we certainly did not have chargers for writing.... 😊

Stuck indoors today with an achey shoulder, so I sorted and sharpened loads of pencils to while away the hours. Wound up with a huge blister on my thumb.... Doh.
This is the "anti coloured pencil shot" I guess.... No colour and non-uniform.
HSS... minimal processing to get rid of pesky reflections and dust....
*** 2 weeks ago i couldn't find a pencil sharpener to save my soul (sad for a retired teacher to say), then i went to a church bazaar and found this. it truly was the only one there (of any color), so i didn't buy it just because it was blue-- honest!!
I set this macro up for Macro Monday's theme. ": Smaller Than 2 inches" The pencil sharpener measures 1 inch in length and is positioned next to my sunglasses for perspective and for the reflection.
Please view at large on black.
Happy Macro Monday.
Some days I have bursts of creative energy, which will manifest itself in many different ways. Sometimes it’s photography, other days it is writing. Some days it’s fashion design, and on occasion it is drawing, illustraion and sketching.
This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a weekly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each week, and the image is to be posted on the Monday of the week.
This week the theme, “material” was chosen by Gary, Gazman_AU.
When I was twelve, I entered a drawing competition and I won my first set of Derwent pencils: a tin case of 36. As a designer and illustrator as well as a photographer, over the years I have acquired several different sets of Derwents for different purposes, including my beloved Derwent Studio Pencil set of 72 which I use predominantly these days for designing clothes, but occasionally they also serve as suitable materials to use for sketching and illustration when the mood takes me, such as this example in today\'s photograph.
Derwent, or the Derwent Cumberland Pencil Company, is a manufacturer of pencils and other stationery. The business began in 1832 in Cumberland under the name of Banks, Son & Co. The company was bought by Acco UK and became a brand of their product range.
As a mother my heart is breaking and I am so sickened over the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine by a lunatic in another country. As a CAF Veteran I understand why NATO countries cannot impose "no fly zones, cannot participate on the ground. As an inhabitant of this little blue planet I am fearful that this psychopath will start a nuclear war and humanity as we know it will be over. We have been through so much these past couple of years with a global pandemic and now, the possibility of a lunatic who can wipe us all by the push of a button is no doubt weighing on many peoples minds. Our mental health has taken a toll these past couple of years and it seems to just keep on pushing us more and more. i have to stop watching so much on the news as it really is taking it's toll on me.
I don't know if there is a God or not. I question if there is especially when a madman is on the loose trying to take over another country but, just in case there is, I am still saying a prayer that there will be a resolve to this, that those who have lost loved ones or who are now displaced because of this invasion of war will somehow be able to get through this somehow and, that peace will prevail. If you are not religious perhaps just a wish that this madman will come to his senses and some sense of reality and stop this insane invasion.
I decided that I would pull out some of my craft beads that I have here for the grandkids when they come and put my little pencil sharpener on a piece of craft paper for my photo today. with my lensbaby sweet 35 optic and a macro filter on the Canon as I didn't feel much like going outside to shoot "the same old thing" because of all that is happening.
I appreciate each and every visit, comment and fave here on my little corner of the world as seen through my lens.
No crayons were harmed in the making of this photo. LIE....that little metal sharpener chewed through those crayons like a hot knife through butter. It spit them out in curly bits of wax and primary colours. Chomp!!!!!
My student Alessandro sharpened his red pencil and...I saw the shot!
Have a great week end you all, because TGIF!!!!! :))))
(but it's raining cats and dogs outside!)
Macro study of pencil in pencil sharpener.................... yawn.
Ok, have done a shot like this before but this time it's in colour............. ooh :-)
This one frame can tell many stories. Not only can you begin to imagine what has been drawn on the chalkboard, but later the pencils that were sharpened with the sharpener. Laneburg High School was built in the early 1930's and is struggling to remain standing. My father went to school here and I was fortunate to have him with me while I was photographing the school on this day.
Comments welcome.
Location: Laneburg High School, Laneburg, Arkansas.
I did get permission from the land owner to photograph the school.

These seem to be quite durable in the office environment. The Panasonic electric pencil sharpener with Auto Stop and illuminated indicator; and the Wilson Jones 'Hummer' model 3-hole punch. Each of these has survived decades of daily office use. Either one purchased for personal use might become heirlooms if your kids are into that!
I resisted buying this for a long time, but it's like being taken over by the Borg, resistance is futile. Anyway I really like it. I like that it has an actual working light, & electrical outlets (non working) that you can plug things into, and drawers that open. I love the chair too, I wish I could get a bunch of them.
It's been three years since a tornado and three hours later a tornado hit my home. Finally the insurance paid and I had new impact windows and doors installed throughout the whole house. Wondrous and sunlit but cool and serene. Quiet and calm. A house of glass .... 75 mostly very large windows!
