Another ebay win but one of the objective barrels was on cross threaded, Couldn't tell from the pics but it was bad in the hand!, I seated it correctly and tightened it but collimation was terrible!!
The last revenue run up to Peerless Confectionary?
I received a call from Ken the engineer on the Chicago Terminal at the time tipping me a couple of days earlier off that the final run to Peerless would take place on February 1, 2007. Peerless announced it was shutting down January 12, 2007, with the last day of operation April 30, 2007. No new orders would be accepted after February 15, 2007.
This Chicago Terminal operation would involve retrieving an empty tank car and returning it to the North Avenue Yard. So I took the day off from work and brought with me a banner I made signifying the end of rail service on this northernmost section of the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line.
And yes I was still shooting film back then with my trusty 35mm Canon camera.
Assisting Ken that day was John who was a conductor and a younger person whose name I do not recall.
Later I heard that one more run was made to Peerless before it shut down later that spring for good. Then in 2008 gondolas were stored on the Peerless spur after the factory was torn down as well as an excursion run by Chicago Terminal parent Iowa Pacific with the passenger car Caritas for Iowa Pacific customers.
If anyone has photos of a REVENUE run up to Peerless after February 1, 2007, I would be interested in seeing them posted.
I wrote an extensive history of the Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line in the book "The Milwaukee Road in Chicago" which was published by the Milwaukee Road Historical Association in 2007 if anyone is interested in knowing more. It goes into the Chicago Terminal era.
I received no money from the book and it sold out quickly but might be available on the secondary market. The MRHA is considering reprinting it and I have an update to go with it.

Peerless Motor Car Company produced cars from 1900-1931. During this period they became known as one of the "Three P's" (Packard, Pierce-Arrow and Peerless) all manufacturing the best cars America had to offer.
A total of 1618 cars were produced in 1909.

Thomas and John Morris operated the "Peerless Beverage Manufacturing Plant" on Water Street in Charlottetown. The July 26th 1920 edition of Guardian gave a description of business. It's products included "lemon and orange squash, sarsaparilla, iron tonic, cream soda, apple nectar, Belfast ginger ale and most notably, the famous gold foil-topped Peerless dry ginger ale." On February 1, 2007-just one month after Chicago Terminal took over operations from CP on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line- it made its last documented run to the candy company to retrieve an empty tank car. By May of 2007 Peerless was out of business and a short time later its buildings were torn down to make room for more condos.
I was fortunate enough to join the crew with this vantage point from inside the Chicago Terminal SW-800. Now both Chicago Terminal and its parent company Iowa Pacific are no more.

I was lucky to catch this CP job taking a load of sugar up to Peerless Confectionery on a grey day in March of 2006. Within nine months shortline Chicago Terminal would take over operations on the former Milwaukee Road North Side lines then in a little over a year Peerless would be out of business.
I had not seen this maneuver before. CP is shoving the load east on the Bloomingdale Line after entering it from the connection with UP where CP was a tenant at UP's North Avenue Yard. The crew member is presumably waiting for the swing bridge over the Chicago River to be moved into position then he will ride the hopper to C&E Junction. At C&E Junction in the middle of Kingsbury Street the CP crew will back up on to the C&E Line from the Bloomingdale Line then head north to Peerless.

This view shows the CP train working its way north on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line which by this time was reduced to a long spur to reach Peerless.

So, day 3 & i've worn 3 different pairs of shoes & every outfit has had something i've never worn in it! It feels good.

Peerless 831864, 8" subwoofer. A NOS (new old stock) type from Danish Sound Technology (DST), Denmark (land of fine speakers). About 2000, DST formed by merging Peerless and Vifa/ScanSpeak (2002: Tymphany Corporation).
These are 4 ohm drivers. Sensitivity 93dB/2.83V. Theses drivers produce a serious amount of controlled bass and their efficiency is excellent.
Cone is impregnated polypropylene and motors are very large.
The basket is sturdy pressed steel, spider is nicely corrugated and surround is made of butyl rubber.
