The AIDS Institute (AI) has, for many years, recognized the important role that peers can play in improving health outcomes and many health and social service programs have a long history of successfully engaging clients in a wide range of activities.
Peer certification is highlighted in the NYS Blueprint for Ending the AIDS Epidemic and peer services can play a key role in meeting the state’s goals of increasing linkage and retention in care, rates of viral suppression and preventing new infections.

The ASMS Spring Research Forum is one of the BEST days in our school year! — Students present their original research project to peers, employees, alumni, family, and community partners!
Over 75 ASMS Research Fellows students participated in our biggest event yet and presented 40 different projects. Shout out to all the faculty mentors who helped guide and support their work!
Dr. John de la Parra, Class of 1998, was honored by the ASMS Alumni Council with the Dragon Legacy Distinguished Alumni Award for 2025. He also gave the keynote message to start the Research Forum!
12 incredible alumni ranging from the Class of 1994 to the Class of 2024 attended and served on networking panels where they shared about ASMS, college, career, & life.
We held our Forum for the first time in our brand-new Wilson Science Research Center, the only college-level research facility at a high school in Alabama!
Thanks to Spire and Airbus for sponsoring and attending the event! Thanks to The University of South Alabama and USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute for their partnership on several student research projects.
