Je faisais une petite "vadrouille" place Ste Catherine à Bruxelles, un endroit assez "branché" quand j'ai vu cette "demoiselle" qui ne faisait que me regarder prendre des photos ...
Je me suis approché d'elle, me suis accroupi et le résultat est devant vous ... une surprise que peut procurer la "street view" !
Pour la suite, je ne vous dirai rien ...🤔
l y a 10 000 ans, la baie d'Hudson était recouverte d'une couche de glace lors de la dernière période glaciaire de la planète.
En hiver, la température oscillait entre -40 et -60 degrés Celsius, tandis qu’en été, elle atteignait 10 à 15 degrés Celsius.
Lors d’une récente expédition, nous avons toutefois été frappés par une vague de chaleur étouffante, où les températures ont dépassé les 30 degrés Celsius” !!!

L’adolescence, on sait quand elle commence, mais pas toujours quand elle finit !
Ceux qui ont des enfants savent très bien que c’est une période relativement difficile à supporter quand nos ados sont plutôt exaspérants dans certaines circonstances de la vie de tous les jours et qu'ils ne veulent de conseils de personne !
Et ne parlons même pas des soucis, manque d’obéissance, inquiétudes multiples et préoccupations qu’ils nous ont apporté pendant cette période qui varie dans le temps suivant le caractère de notre enfant !
Allez savoir ce qu’ils ont dans la tête durant cette période plus ou moins longue de leur adolescence avant de passer à la vie d’adulte et à l’obligation de devoir prendre « leurs responsabilités »

D'abord, le design extérieur : entre le fer à repasser futuriste finition carbone et la Renault Zoé revue sauce Star Wars, elle ne plaira certainement pas à tout le monde. Ne nous arrêtons pas à l'apparence, il faut voir ce qu'elle compte proposer à ses futurs acquéreurs.
Consciente qu'elle devait répondre à des besoins spécifiques, Alef Aeronautics, depuis sa création en 2015, s'est concentrée sur trois points : que son véhicule puisse se conduire comme une voiture classique, qu'elle puisse décoller verticalement et que son prix demeure relativement accessible (nous reviendrons ensuite sur le mot « relativement »).
La Model A présente une autonomie de conduite de 322 kilomètres environ et une autonomie de vol de 177 km, le tout sur batterie. Sur ce point-là, difficile de la comparer à la concurrence, au vu de sa double fonction vol et roulage.
Le prix relativement bas qui a été annoncé par l'entreprise est de 300 000 $, soit le prix cumulé d'un Cessna 172 d'occasion (petit avion monomoteur de tourisme) et d'une voiture de catégorie luxe/GT/sportive neuve. La Model A ne s'adresse clairement pas à tout le monde. Ce prix élevé n'a pas empêché plus de 440 réservations du modèle à partir d'octobre 2022.
Les tests du véhicule ont commencé depuis 2019 et sa mise en production devrait commencer en 2025. Mais l'entreprise ne va pas s'arrêter là et développera d'autres modèles. Une berline, la Model Z prévue pour 2035 avec un prix de départ à 35 000 $. Certainement dans l'espoir de massifier la production et de sortir un premier projet vraiment accessible au plus grand nombre et lucratif pour viabiliser l'entreprise.
Les voitures volantes, bientôt un élément courant dans nos paysages ?
Nous n'en sommes pas là !
Même si ce projet prouve que cela reste un marché de niche destiné aux riches propriétaires ou aux entreprises, il est en réalité impossible de prévoir à l'avance ce que peut nous réserver une équipe de passionnés.
L'histoire de la tech est remplie d'exemple qui confirme d'ailleurs cette théorie.🤔

First, the exterior design: between the futuristic carbon-finish iron and the Renault Zoé review with Star Wars sauce, it certainly won't appeal to everyone. Let's not stop at the appearance, we have to see what it intends to offer its future buyers.
Aware that it had to meet specific needs, Alef Aeronautics, since its creation in 2015, has focused on three points: that its vehicle can drive like a classic car, that it can take off vertically and that its price remains relatively accessible (we'll come back to the word "relatively" later).
The Model A has a driving range of approximately 322 kilometers and a flying range of 177 km, all on battery power. On this point, it is difficult to compare it to the competition, given its dual function of flight and taxiing.
The relatively low price that was advertised by the company is $300,000, which is the combined price of a used Cessna 172 (small single-engine passenger aircraft) and a new luxury/GT/sport class car . The Model A is clearly not for everyone. This high price did not prevent more than 440 reservations of the model from October 2022.
Tests of the vehicle have started since 2019 and its production should start in 2025. But the company is not going to stop there and will develop other models. A sedan, the Model Z scheduled for 2035 with a starting price of $35,000. Certainly in the hope of massiveizing production and releasing a first project that is truly accessible to as many people as possible and lucrative to make the company viable.
Flying cars, soon a common element in our landscapes?
We are not there !
Even if this project proves that it remains a niche market aimed at wealthy owners or companies, it is actually impossible to predict in advance what a team of enthusiasts may have in store for us.
The history of tech is full of examples that confirm this theory.🤔

Le cliché posté aujourd’hui, a été réalisé en 2008 avec un reflex Nikon D80 de 10,2 MP et un objectif AF Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 … la qualité du cliché est bien au rendez-vous et l’appareil fonctionne toujours aussi bien qu’à ses débuts !
Pensez-vous qu’on aurait pu obtenir une nette amélioration avec un appareil tout récent ?
Pour votre info ce Nikon D80 vaut maintenant en occasion une centaine d’euros sans l’objectif évidemment !

The photo posted today was taken in 2008 with a Nikon D80 10.2 MP SLR and an AF Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 lens... the quality of the photo is there and the camera still works as well although in its early stages !
Do you think we could have obtained a clear improvement with a very recent device ?
For your information, this Nikon D80 is now worth around a hundred euros used without the lens of course !

Comme vous pouvez le voir dans ce cliché, la rue est un spectacle permanent et, je dois vous l’avouer, pas toujours très « classe » mais les surprises restent toujours « de taille » !

This photomosaic of the Andromeda galaxy, located 2.5 million light-years from Earth, is the largest ever created using images from the Hubble Space Telescope. It features over 600 Hubble images and required over a decade to make. The composite features 200 million stars, a fraction of Andromeda’s estimated trillion-star population.
Interesting regions include: (a) Clusters of bright blue stars embedded within the galaxy, background galaxies seen much farther away, and photo-bombing by a couple bright foreground stars that are actually inside our Milky Way; (b) NGC 206 the most conspicuous star cloud in Andromeda; (c) A young cluster of blue newborn stars; (d) The satellite galaxy M32, that may be the residual core of a galaxy that once collided with Andromeda; (e) Dark dust lanes across myriad stars.

Picton’s Harbour
The area covers the south and east edges of the Picton’s harbour and runs along Bridge Street. Buildings on the harbour originally served to support industry associated with shipping. As the transportation of goods shifted to land based methods, the once mercantile harbour has evolved to accommodate residential and recreational uses. There is a mix of residential and commercial buildings, as well as open space uses along the harbour. The harbour also functions as a tourist
destination with a boardwalk and docks for recreational boats.
Picton’s harbour has a rich and layered cultural history. Once used as a landing point in a network of aboriginal portage trails, and later informing the development pattern, transportation networks, and industrial and early economic history of Picton and Hallowell, the harbour is central to the cultural heritage of the area.
Up until the early 20th century, the waterfront properties at the head of the harbour were active warehouses with dredged and hardened docking areas for large vessels along the water’s edge. While the dockwalls remain largely intact to this day, all of the warehouse activity is now gone and most of the waterfront properties at the head of the harbour have been redeveloped as private residential and commercial sites.
The existing character of the streetscape within this area, along Bridge Street, is marked by what is no longer there rather than what currently is. The mouth of the harbour where the creek meets the bay was once a bustling intersection as a primary point of arrival and departure for passengers and goods. Streetwall buildings that met Bridge Street and extended towards Top-of-Hill acted as a physical connection of the harbour to the downtown core. Trading activity on the harbour spilled up from the harbour onto Bridge Street and funnelled to the commercial thoroughfare on Main Street. The vibrant streetscape character of the
area was lost with the demolition of the streetwall buildings and replacement with a modern strip mall at 18 Bridge Street.
Nevertheless, the remaining streetwall buildings at Bridge and Union Streets contribute to a terminating view and sense of arrival into the Town as one descends south-westward from the Loyalist Parkway.
Today, local residents and visitors alike are less aware of the harbour than they once were. At present, there is limited public access to the waterfront. A boardwalk provides access to marina slips, evidence of the harbour’s primary function as a
destination and launching point for recreational boating.
Despite its current diminished status, the harbour represents a hidden jewel for Picton, waiting to be re-discovered. The natural topography that defines the harbour basin, and which has continually informed patterns of movement and settlement in the area, remains intact. From the water, a dramatic approach to the
head of the harbour can still be experienced and, at a number of existing overlook points, a dramatic harbour-side townscape is revealed. Re-vitalizing the harbour, and re-connecting the harbour to the town represents a significant opportunity to
improve quality of life for residents and to attract more tourists, contributing to the economic vitality of the town.

Demonstrations in large cities have often been the scene of diverse demands, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and women's rights.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated urban inequalities, turning a health crisis into a crisis of urban access and equity. Housing conditions have increased women's vulnerability to violence, and mobility restrictions have limited their ability to escape these situations. In addition, the use of public transport has declined, which could jeopardise efforts to achieve sustainable and safe transport.
Women have played a crucial role in demonstrations to express their anger at persistent inequalities. For example, on 8 March 2024, more than 30,000 women in Belgium took part in strikes and demonstrations to demand greater respect for care work.
These actions highlight the importance of recognising and valuing women's work, which is often undervalued.

Synopsis
Kei Kitami # who is aiming for a university # meets Kaori Uemura # an event companion who is 6 years older than her on SNS.
Kaori's dream of coming to Tokyo is to become friends with famous artists.
For that purpose # the presence of radio station producer Ryo Osawa was necessary.
Osawa talks to Kaori during the live radio broadcast.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

For Monochrome Monday here's a little vignette seemingly straight out of the old west. According to an old USGS topo map these ramshackle log cabin structures are in a place named Beals. But I can find no information about this spot other than that name. So perhaps it was just a lonely ranch or maybe it is a ghost town with a hidden past. It's fun to imagine that perhaps Kid Curry passed this way to rendezvous with Butch and Sundance at Hole-in-the-Wall or maybe Ike Gravelle rode through on his way to blow up the NP's Yellowstone River bridge near Livingston or....you fill in your own wild west tale.
But even if it doesn't look like it at times, it's very much the 21st century as Montana Rail Link's 844 Logan Local is seen at about MP 5.4 on MRL's 6th Sub (Harrison Branch) rolling north (timetable east) through a classic western high plains landscape. They are dropping downgrade toward Antelope Creek which they'll follow back through a canyon that cuts through the London Hills on their return toward the 5th Sub (former NP passenger main) at Sappington. Leading the eight loaded covered hoppers are two classic EMD GP35s, MRL 403 and 401 blt. Dec 1964 as DRGW 3039 and Jan. 1964 as DTI 353 respectively.
Serving only one customer, this branch sees service once a week at most to reach the tiny country elevator at the end of the line. I can't verify the veracity of this claim, but I've been told by railroaders that the only reason this anachronism survives is that the owner of the Harrison Elevator Co. is an old friend of MRL's owner, billionaire industrialist Dennis Washington. If true it would certainly help to explain the otherwise unexplainable!
This branch itself was originally built to Harrison by a Northern Pacific subsidiary in 1889 and extended a year later another 10 miles or so to Norris. Additionally at Harrison another branch forked 7 miles west to a small mining area at Pony. This branch was cut back by the NP during WWII and the outer 10 miles of the main stem to Norris succumbed under BN in 1975 leaving what was left to pass to MRL in 1987.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

A very small fly. You can tell how small it is as you can see the out of focus tip to the insect pin to the right of the head shot. Not sure what species, but the beauty of the wing and the white integument and contrasty hair and eyes were appealing. Collected inadvertently while netting bees in Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge on a bright sunny day in the 70s.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。

Pero además, por si fuera poco, es uno de los organismos más resistentes a los rayos gamma que se conocen. Cualquier otro ser vivo quedaría abrasado y su material genético descompuesto ante una exposición a la radiación gamma. Sin embargo, Philodina roseola es capaz de restaurar los daños en el ADN que en otras especies serían irreversibles.
Y, aún más...otra particularidad que le acerca casi a la inmortalidad y que está relacionada con su reproducción: es un organismo que se reproduce sexualmente sin necesidad del otro sexo. Los óvulos sin fecundar dan lugar a nuevos individuos, siempre hembras (partenogénesis).
Pues aquí tenemos a nuestro superhéroe, discreto y casi desconocido, haciendo malabarismos con un grupito de algas en espera de que su charca se vuelva a secar.
La muestra en la que se ha tomado la fotografía fue recolectada hace dos días junto al embalse de La Grajera, en Logroño. La foto se ha realizado a 200 aumentos empleando la técnica de contraste de interferencia.

Singapore National Day Parade
The Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual parade held in the city-state of Singapore. Held annually on 9 August, it is the main public celebration of National Day, and was first held on 9 August 1966 to mark the one-year anniversary of the Proclamation of Singapore.
In recent years, the parade has usually been held at either The Padang, or The Float at Marina Bay. In the past, it was held at the former National Stadium.

Singapore celebrated its first National Day as an independent nation in 1966, one year after Singapore's separation from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.
The inaugural National Day Parade was started in the morning at 9:00 a.m. that day. However, people came as early as 7:00 a.m. in order to get good vantage points. Singapore's first President, Yusof bin Ishak and Singapore's first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, were seated with members of the government at the grandstand on the steps of City Hall. When the parade began, six military contingents (including the Singapore Infantry Regiment, Singapore People's Defense Force, the Volunteer Naval Reserve and PDF-Sea and the then Republic of Singapore Police), a mobile column from the SIR, and various schools and civil contingents marched past City Hall and then into the city streets. Three military bands accompanied the parade inspection and later the march past with military music. The Singapore Fire Brigade also took part in this first parade with its firetrucks included in the mobile column. Rounding it all was a massed lion and dragon dance performance from drum and dragon troupes nationwide.
In 1967, the contingents increased to 76, including those of the then established Singapore Armed Forces, the RSP and more cultural groups, with the addition of more civil marching groups.[ The reason is partly due to the introduction of the National Service program in the military and police forces, and later extended to the Fire Brigade (Renamed to Singapore Fire Services in the 1980s). Street performances by various groups and choirs also debuted in that year's parade. The 1968 parade, although held on a rainy morning that surprised even the marching contingents and the dignitaries, saw the first ground performances on the Padang as the weather improved - a prelude to today's show performances. 1969's parade, the one where the Mobile Column made its first drivepast, commemorated the 150th year of the city's founding and had Princess Alexandra of the UK as principal guest.
The fifth NDP edition in 1970 introduced the Flypast of the State Flag and the Republic of Singapore Air Force Flypast, as well as the combat simulation performance by Singapore Army personnel was one of the new highlights for that year.
The 1971 NDP included iconic mobile parade floats from various organizations, 1973 was the first parade to be held from late-afternoon to early-evening time in order to promote the parade with better attendance and marked the official debut of the 1st Commando Battalion. Parade of 1974 was broadcast for the first time in full colour, after such television broadcasts was introduced for the first time a month prior on 7 July.
In 1975, to commemorate the Decennial anniversary of independence, the Parade was, for the first time, decentralized into 13 parade venues for more public participation. Almost all of the venues lasted for an hour and all of them even had route marches on the streets to the participating venues.
By the time the NDP was held at the National Stadium (for the first time) in 1976, the NDP Guard of Honour, composed of officers and personnel of the SAF and the Singapore Police Force made its first appearance, followed after the parade proper by the very first evening presentations by various groups, a prelude to future evening NDPs in 1980 and from 1984 onward. The 1975 parade dance performers were mostly female students from the country's schools, since that year marked the start of the United Nations Decade for Women. 1977's parade was a decentralized event like two years before (and like 1968's was affected by wet weather) while 1978 returned to Padang. 1979's parade saw another decentralized site, this time being held in many high schools and sports stadiums nationwide. The decentralized format would later be used until 1983, which was the final time NDP was held in multiple venues until 2020.
The 15th installment in 1980 was the first parade to introduce the feu de joie of the Guard-of-Honour contingents. The following year, SPF Civil Defense Command, presently the Singapore Civil Defense Force, later combined with the SFS in 1989, made its inaugural appearance, followed by the SCDF in 1982. The 1981 parade was held in both Jurong and Queenstown Sports Stadiums for further increase public attendance and participation in the celebrations. In 1982, the parade returned at Padang, marking the first time the mobile column drove past after the marchpast had concluded, thus making it a predecessor to the parades at the Padang from 1995 onward, once every five years.
The 1984 installment featured many firsts in commemoration with the Singapore's Silver Jubilee of self-governance, which for the first time, introduced a theme song "Stand Up for Singapore", and included a bigger Mobile Column, the first appearance of the popular Silent Precision Drill Squad from the Singapore Armed Forces Military Police Command and the first evening fireworks display.
The 1986 edition was the first parade held in the late evening, and the first to use flashlights for audience use. Other introductions were featured over the years such as the first appearance of the massed military bands of the SAF (1987), the card stunt (1988), and the Red Lions parachute team and the daylight fireworks (1989). In 1989, the parade was held in the afternoon but the 1991 edition returned to the evening format used since 1986.
In 1993, interactive participation by the public debuted in that year's edition to increase public participation and awareness of the parade as an important part of Singaporean life and as a symbol of national unity and identity. In 1997, a National Education Show was also introduced where Primary Five students from a selected number of schools attended in one of the rehearsals.
In 2003, due to overcrowding of tickets, the electronic voting ticketing system was introduced as a countermeasure, and a ballot was conducted where citizens stand a chance at winning the tickets by registering their e-mail addresses or mobile numbers such as the NDP websites or phone lines.
On 16 October 2005, it was announced that due to the planned closure and replacement of the National Stadium as part of the Singapore Sports Hub project, that the 2007 NDP would move to The Float at Marina Bay—a temporary 27,000-seat grandstand and 130 m × 100 m (330 ft) (430 ft × 330 ft) floating platform in Marina Bay. Despite offering a seating capacity almost less than half the capacity of the National Stadium, there was a vast area for approximately 150,000 additional spectators along the Marina Bay waterfront.
The 2006 installment marked the final time the National Stadium in Kallang was held before the stadium went for retrofitting works and thus relocating the parade to the new venue to The Float @ Marina Bay and held its inaugural parade the following year. Starting in 2008, the NDP is also aired all over the Asia-Pacific region through CNA, and since 2012, it was simulcast to other internet web-streaming websites such as Toggle (now meWATCH), xinmsn (defunct since 2015), and YouTube (along with the parade's official channel, NDPeeps). 2009 featured, for the first time, an integrated show including the parade segment, known as the Pre-parade show (usually not broadcast on television). 2009 was currently the last time to feature multiple theme songs (English and Chinese versions, or originals)
The 2013 installment featured a spin-off reality competition aired on Channel 5, titled Sing a Nation, which featured ten different groups who performed various songs for a chance at a lead performance for the 2013's parade. The 2013's theme song, "One Singapore", was also sung by the cast of Sing a Nation, and the song featured its largest ensemble, with 68 members.
The 2014 installment also featured its first female Red Lion parachutist to jump at the NDP, Third Warrant Officer Shirley Ng, after their initial performance in 2013 was cancelled due to weather conditions. The 2014 parade was notable as it was the last parade with the attendance for the first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who was the only member to have attended in every installment of NDP since 1966, as he died on 23 March the following year.
2015's parade was the first parade to be held at both the Padang and at The Float @ Marina Bay, breaking a parade tradition in the process as it became the first parade since 1983 to be held in multiple venues.
In 2016, the NDP was held for the first time at the new National Stadium, in an event that required modifications to the event's format due to the limitations of the venue. In 2017, it was announced that The Float would remain the "preferred" venue for the event, and that it would be redeveloped as a permanent venue known as NS Square.
Due to criticisms relating to budget and logistics,[22] the following parade in 2017 (and later in 2018) returned to The Float @ Marina Bay to celebrate the golden jubilee for National Service. 2017 also saw the first time YouTube live-streamed the parade in a 360-degree format and on Facebook Live.
In October 2017, it was announced that The Float would be redeveloped as a permanent venue known as NS Square (extended to March 2023 due to the pandemic), and serve as the primary venue for the NDP when not held at the Padang every five years. The decision raised questions over whether the costs of renting the National Stadium would diminish the legacy that the former National Stadium had as a site for community events. Contrarily, it was argued that not hosting the NDP at the new National Stadium would free up its schedule for major international sporting events, especially during the summer months.
The 2019 installment, which was held at the Padang again and breaking a trend of holding every five years to commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of modern foundation of Singapore in 1819, also marked the first time the parade was screened in 4K ultra-high definition on Toggle.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, the 2020 parade was not held in its traditional form; the event was given the theme "Together, A Stronger Singapore", and a goal was set to bring the NDP "across the island into every Singaporean's home". The public events were replaced by broadcast-only festivities, including a morning segment consisting of the Prime Minister's National Day Message and a downsized parade at the Padang. Appearances by the Mobile Column, Red Lions, and flyovers by F-15SG fighters were scheduled across Singapore, while the traditional Funpacks given at the parade were shipped to each resident. Online programming, home activity ideas, and social media campaigns were also organized. A cultural segment took place at the Star Performing Arts Centre in the evening, reduced to only around 100 performers with social distancing enforced.
It was announced that the 2021 parade would return to a "centralised" event at The Float in a downsized form, with tickets distributed to nominated essential workers who are fully-vaccinated for COVID-19 and undergo testing.[29] On 22 July 2021, the main public parade would be postponed to 21 August instead, so that it can be held after the conclusion of the present Phase 2 "Heightened Alert" restrictions (then scheduled for 18 August). A closed "ceremonial" parade was still held on 9 August at The Float, which was stated to be similar in format to the previous year's parade. The venue was capped at 30% capacity.
In 2022, plans were made to have the parade held at The Float with full capacity subject to COVID rules.
