A leaf, alone, leaning on a silent bench,

thinks of its bright path;

of the day it will turn green,

of the breeze that will make it tremble,

and of the sunlight that will warm its heart.

And the leaf knows,

when raindrops dance upon it

and birds sing overhead,

the patience that is not green today

will blossom tomorrow.

Green-backed Heron

This Great Blue Heron showed great patience waiting for a fish at the bottom of Sauble Falls, in Ontario, Canada.

The male osprey brings in a meal for his long-suffering family, on Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, Florida.

“I think that love is stronger than habits or circumstances. I think it is possible to keep yourself for someone for a long time, and still remember why you were waiting when she comes at last.... I would enter your sleep if I could, and guard you there, and slay the thing that hounds you, as I would if it had the courage to face me in fair daylight. But I cannot come in unless you dream of me.”

Certes.

Tulips in my garden still waiting for warmth to open. Not my ideal POV but my better half has been busy digging up our back lawn, putting fresh soil from another part of the garden, rolling it out ready to reseed it so I daren’t even kneel on that.....yet...

Patience - Something that wildlife photography has taught me is patience. I used to get frustrated easily, especially when looking for Bobcats and move around or position myself in wrong areas. However, after experiences with various Bobcats, I have learned that silence, a low profile, and a still body are the best way to photograph this species.

It is important to remember that sometimes even when an animal is accustomed to you the photographer, there are other environmental stimuli that they are paying attention to that may startle them. When this subadult female Bobcat tensed up at the presence of a dog walking behind me, I stopped taking images and stayed very quiet to not cause any additional disturbance to her. The Nikon D850 shutter is incredibly noisy so that is something that I kept in mind. Eventually she relaxed, and I continued capturing images.

This is the closest I have ever been to a Bobcat. Many Bobcats tend to not tolerate photography at such close proximity even with a silent and sensitive approach so I treat Bobcat photography on an individual by individual basis. On the same note, I do not photograph all mammals at this proximity. I would hesitate photographing animals such as Coyotes and foxes at this range since sadly (at least in California) foxes and coyotes that allow closeups are typically fed by tourists or photographers. Being obligate carnivores, Bobcats exhibit a much safer tolerance to humans - curiosity in young individuals such as this, and indifference in older individuals that have grown accustomed to suburban environments. I encourage fellow photographers to not photograph food habituated wildlife, it is faux wildlife photography and many times the animals are euthanized at no fault of their own.

I missed the initial line of storms as my son had a soccer game so didnt get to chase until late afternoon. The storms were starting to collapse as they near the coast so I head North and got this final one as it crossed Somerset dam near Kilcoy. The light was only this intense for a few seconds after the storm rolled over where I was waiting and I got about 5 shots before it faded.
