WESTERN PATCH-NOSED SNAKE (Salvadora hexalepis)
A nice warm tarmac surface is irresistible to reptiles. For each live snake I see in the field I usually see a couple who've met the fate of this one. Western Patch-nosed Snakes are swift, diurnal creatures of desert plains and chaparral. Note the large rostral shield on the snake's snout that gives it its name.
