This is for the youngest grandson of a friend of mine ...... the design is based on the animals on the baby's playmat which, judging by your reaction to the picture I posted earlier of the toppers, seems to be available world-wide !! LOL

Felix's Granny made the cakes and when I got back from setting up the wedding cake yesterday, I collected them, buttercreamed and decorated them so that they could be taken to London yesterday afternoon ready for the Christening today !!!
I was very pleased with the cases I found for these ..... not only were they the perfect colours but they actually kept their colour during cooking !
The little giraffe is made of Artista Soft, as you know, so he can be kept along with the balloon topper I made for the Christening of Felix's brother Rory.

Top cake iced in fondant, the rest in vanilla buttercream with mexican paste toppers ..... all edible apart from the giraffe.

The apple paste I made the other day is dried and ready to store in the fridge. It's delicious, but not quite the same as the fruit pastes we usually buy. Very good, though. This paste is sweeter and the Rutherford and Meyer has a more intense flavor. I think next time I'll use a very tart apple at the beginning of the season.
Here's the recipe. Two kilos of apples turned into about a one kilo of paste, give or take the bits I "had" to trim off for neatness (and eat). The little 4 oz. tubs we buy are $5 each, so I turned a couple of dollars worth of apples into about $40 worth of apple paste. Hooray!
Next up, pear paste, because if there's one thing I like more than cheddar with apple paste, it's blue cheese with pear paste!

I married a photograph of a b&w landscape with a piece of starry sky scrapbooking paper. The bears on the ground are from a children's book and I cannot remember where the bear in the sky is from.
Active Assignment Weekly - In The Style Of Chema Madoz.
AAW - Jan. 27-Feb. 3, 2025.
Cropped and converted to sepia tone. Sepia seemed more suited than a harsher black & white. Photographed with natural light as Madoz does, although this is digital as opposed to Madoz's analogue images.
I debated whether to go with this woodgrain background as opposed to solid.
Great assignment Peter. Very interesting and quite challenging.
