You get times when getting up early has it's own rewards and this is one of those occasions, a flock of Canada Geese flying right passed the sun one of natures bonuses for me! a bit to do in PS with the contrasts though!
The Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) is a passerine bird in the sparrow family with a rich chestnut crown and nape, and a black patch on each pure white cheek. The sexes are similarly plumaged, and young birds are a duller version of the adult. This sparrow breeds over most of temperate Eurasia and Southeast Asia, where it is known as the tree sparrow, and it has been introduced elsewhere including the United States, where it is known as the Eurasian tree sparrow or German sparrow to differentiate it from the native unrelated American tree sparrow. Although several subspecies are recognised, the appearance of this bird varies little across its extensive range.
The pass gains some height so is a handy start for climbing Red Screes.. it saves a little bit of huffing and puffing :-)

Two weeks passed.
Time passes slowly up here in the mountain
We sit beside the bridges and walk beside the fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float though the stream
Time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream.
Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good-looking
She sat in the kitchen while her mama was cooking
Stared on out the window to the stars high above
Time passes slowly when you're searching for love.
Ain't no reason to go in a wagon to town
Ain't no reason to go to the fair
Ain't no reason to go up, ain't no reason to go down
Ain't no reason to go anywhere.
Time passes slowly up here in the daylight
We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right
Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day
Time passes slowly and fades away.

Getting near the north end of the south bridge as it nears Pass Island. Strawberry Island in the center. Ben Ure Island now in view on the right beyond the tip of Whidbey Island.
Ben Ure Island has quite a disreputable and sad history, which I will share tomorrow with the better view from the north channel between Fidalgo and Pass Islands.
Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!
Looking east from the south bridge on a stormy day with Strawberry Island in the distance.
"Deception Pass is a dramatic seascape where the tidal flow and whirlpools beneath the twin bridges connecting Fidalgo Island to Whidbey Island move quickly. During ebb and flood tide current speed reaches about 8 knots (9.2 mph), flowing in opposite directions between ebb and flood. This swift current can lead to standing waves, large whirlpools, and roiling eddies. This swift current phenomenon can be viewed from the twin bridges' pedestrian walkways or from the trail leading below the larger south bridge from the parking lot on the Whidbey Island side. Boats can be seen waiting on either side of the pass for the current to stop or change direction before going through. Thrill-seeking kayakers go there during large tide changes to surf the standing waves and brave the class 2 and 3 rapid conditions." Wikipedia
Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated!
I've often wondered if God's other creatures found the sunset as mesmerising as we do? Proof positive!

Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The Septimer Pass was one of the preferred routes (along with the Great St. Bernard and the Brenner Pass) for armies and emperors to cross the Alps. Don't let yourself be fooled by the little path, in 15 BC the Roman emperor Augustus sent a whole army north along this route.
Spectacular flight this morning to Christchurch. We passed the edge of Arthur’s Pass during sunrise. Magic. I was lucky that the plane - for a very brief moment - turned so I could get an image from this angel. Seconds after the lighting changed.
A view of the larger of the two bridges that connect Washington's Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island and the mainland.
"The bridge, one of the scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest, is actually two spans, one over Canoe Pass to the north, and another over Deception Pass to the south. Pass Island lies between the two bridges. Construction began in August 1934, and the completed bridge was dedicated at noon on July 31, 1935." Wikipedia
I'll continue posting a few more shots of the bridge and pass over the next few days.
Thank you for any comments, faves or suggestions.
In a wicked display of smoke and sound, MRL #4400 emerges out of the west portal of Bozeman Tunnel after successfully scaling the pass. The current tunnel was completed by the Northern Pacific in 1945, replacing the original 1884 bore.
Species: Passer domesticus.
The House sparrow is an endearing, friendly little garden bird whose almost consistent year-round presence is always welcome. However, despite its notoriety as being one of the most sociable and gregarious birds in existence, it’s an understatement to say the sparrow has had a very tough time throughout history. It must be a decade since I photographed Winnats Pass at sunrise. I avoid it as it gets very busy, especially at weekends.
But I made the opportunity to visit today and it was quieter. Nice to bump into Phil Harrison again. the second time in as many months. Looking forward to your shots.
