Participating in Coach Displays, Blackpool Coach Rally 2019 is Brethertons Volvo 9700 bodied Volvo B11R JB16GLT.
After participating in the Brick Train Depot Secret Santa last year (flic.kr/s/aHBqjzvyj1), I once again set out to build a traincar that I'll probably never actually see running. This year I had to build something for Brandon Burt (flic.kr/ps/3qU82p), which was a fun challenge as he wanted something a bit older. After going back and forth between different ideas I went with an F34 flatcar, I really liked the idea of the double trucks.
While researching the model I noticed the slightly recessed frame as something I really wanted to include to give the model a bit more visual flair. This proved quite a headache as there was not that much space, and the limited parts in dk red didn't help. In the end binoculars did prove to be the key part (www.flickr.com/gp/epjl/8277x54KS1).
Fun fact, when I was waiting on the last handfull of parts Calvin posted his version (flic.kr/p/2nVcfsY), based on the one done by Matt C (flic.kr/p/2kjjJH8). So maybe we can see an image with all 3 versions in a single train....
I hope my model is as much enjoyed by Brandon as I enjoyed designing and building it.
The load is detachable, and it is possible to take out the 2 2x4 bricks to make the bed completely flat.

Having participated in the Photo24 Challenge recently, myself & Tim Scott decided another trip into London would be a great idea. This time I only took my little Sony RX100 mk3 & iPhone with me as the thought of carrying my Canon 5d mk4 & associated lenses in 30 degree heat for the day was just too much. Ultimately, this was the right decision & whilst at times the image quality & ability to get certain shots that the Canon would have given me proved frustrating the small bag & weight far outweighed this. We arrived in London at 10.15am & headed straight to The Barbican for some brutal architecture shots, then made our way across London taking in various sites along the way, ending up in Brick Lane for a curry at 7.30pm.
Lieutenant-Colonel Frank Edward Bourne OBE DCM (April 1854 – 8 May 1945) was a decorated British soldier who participated in the defence of Rorke's Drift during the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War. He was the last known survivor of the battle.
Born in Balcombe, Sussex, England in 1854, Bourne enlisted in the Army at Reigate on 18 December 1872, aged 18 years 8 months. Four years later he had been promoted to Colour Sergeant becoming the youngest NCO of this rank in the entire British Army. This earned him the nickname 'The Kid'.
On 22 and 23 January 1879, Bourne was part of the garrison at Rorke's Drift, Natal, South Africa, which held off a Zulu army. Bourne, who was now an NCO in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, helped organise the defence at the mission station and field hospital. Throughout the day and night of the battle, the Zulus made repeated attacks against the barricades, but the outnumbered defenders held out until relief arrived.
For his bravery, Bourne received the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for "outstanding coolness and courage" during the battle, with a £10 annuity. The DCM, until 1993, was the second highest military decoration (after the Victoria Cross) awarded to other ranks of the British Army. He was offered a commission, but "being an eighth son, and the family exchequer ... empty", he declined it.
After Rorke's Drift, Frank Bourne served in British India and Burma, being promoted to Quartermaster-Sergeant in 1884. He was commissioned in 1890. In 1893 he was appointed Adjutant of the School of Musketry at Hythe, Kent, retiring from the Army in 1907. During the Great War, he rejoined and served as Adjutant of the School of Musketry in Dublin. At the end of the war, he was given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and appointed OBE.
Bourne lived in retirement at 16 King's Hall Road, Beckenham, Kent. He was the last surviving defender from Rorke's Drift, dying on VE Day (8 May 1945), at the age of 91. Bourne was buried in Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery.
In the 1964 film Zulu, Bourne was played by Nigel Green. Green was considerably older (about 40 years old) and taller than Bourne, who was 24 and 5' 6" (1.68 m) at the time of the battle.
We wandered around for quite a while to find his grave. We also visited his house in Beclenham.

Monday I participated in my first casting for a historical movie. I proposed myself for the role of an education teacher in a girls' boarding school in the 1940s during the war.
For this I bought a strict outfit to look as much as possible like a single teacher and a bit stuck...
I don't have the answer yet if I'm selected for the role but I'll be happy to read your comments... Kisses...

Thanks to Mercede Hankins for participating today in the dot painting on my piece Without Moving (after Guy Chase) which is currently on exhibit at in the student union of Northeastern Illinois University in conjunction with my exhibition re. Rainbow Girl which is in the university's gallery. I will be doing dot painting on this piece (if there are people to join me) on the following days and times. Tuesday, September 8 at 7:30 pm - There will be a live performance by Baby Mountain in the NEIU gallery. Baby Mountain is a music project I direct which, like my painting, takes as it's conceptual guide my daughter Temma. The resulting for-the-most-part acoustic music tends to be ethereal, soulful, playful and poetic. This performance will feature NIEU faculty member, clarinetist (and one of my long-time musical collaborators) Christie Miller.
Wednesday, September 16 at noon I will be doing a talk in the gallery.

ENG: Yesterday, Sunday 22.05.2022 I participated in a six-hour Lost Places photo tour of go2know.de on the old and rundown airport site Rangsdorf and was once again heavily inspired. This time I provide a larger series here. ☻
In the 1930s, the Rangsdorf airfield was both a sports airport and an aircraft factory. While the manufacturer Bücker built sports aircraft in the huge production halls, there was always something going on outside on the airfield. Spectacular air shows were held regularly, with daredevil pilots performing daring pirouettes in the sky. Heinz Rühmann was a regular guest as a sports pilot. This is where the pioneers of aviation made history. The old airfield has been almost completely preserved with its many hangars, bunkers and outbuildings. However, the buildings are extremely dilapidated. Most recently, the Russians had used the site to repair their planes and helicopters. Russian writings and paintings can be seen everywhere. (...)

GER: Am gestrigen Sonntag den 22.05.2022 habe ich bei einer sechsstündigen Lost Places Fototour von go2know.de auf dem alten und heruntergekommenen Flughafengelände Rangsdorf teilgenommen und war mal wieder schwer begeistert. Diesmal stelle ich hier eine größere Serie bereit. ☻
Der Rangsdorfer Flugplatz war in den 1930er Jahren Sportflughafen und Flugzeugwerk zugleich. Während der Hersteller Bücker in den riesigen Produktionshallen Sportmaschinen baute, war draußen auf dem Flugfeld immer etwas los. Es gab regelmäßig spektakuläre Flugshows, bei denen sich tollkühne Piloten mit waghalsigen Pirouetten in den Himmel schraubten. Heinz Rühmann war als Sportpilot Stammgast. Hier haben die Pioniere der Luftfahrt Geschichte geschrieben. Der alte Flugplatz ist mit seinen vielen Hallen, Hangars, Bunkern und Nebengebäuden nahezu vollständig erhalten geblieben. Die Gebäude sind aber extrem verfallen. Zuletzt hatten die Russen das Gelände für die Instandsetzung ihrer Flugzeuge und Hubschrauber genutzt. Überall sieht man russische Schriften und Malereien. (…)
