The Temple of Glory or Madeleine (began 1807) shows how far French architecture has gone since the era of Baroque style.

View of the Pont Neuf from the Seine riverbanks, Left Bank side.

The scene unfolds on an April evening. The sun ☀️ breaks through the clouds ☁️, casting long rays of light over the Seine 🌊.

In the foreground, passersby 🚶♀️🚶♂️ enjoy the gentle atmosphere of the quay.

In the background, the Pont Neuf and its arches ️ can be seen, and further off, the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower 🗼 — beneath a universal celestial triangle ✨.

We are indeed in Paris, the “City of Light” 💫.

This black-and-white photograph offers a dramatic and majestic view of the sky above the Grand Palais in Paris. The image is dominated by a stormy sky, where long streaks of clouds seem to dance and swirl with the wind, evoking a sense of movement and natural power.

At the center of the composition, the French flag proudly flies atop the dome of the Grand Palais, emphasizing the patriotic and historical significance of the site. The classical architecture of the building—rich in sculptural details, with statues and elegant balustrades—frames the scene with grandeur and solemnity. The sharp contrast between the light stone and the deep shadows enhances texture and depth, while the dramatic sky adds an almost theatrical dimension.

This striking image blends symbolic power, architectural beauty, and celestial poetry — a perfect illustration of Paris’s timeless elegance.

This scene has become something of an ongoing project for me. I first visited the location on my previous stay in Paris back in 2015 and was never happy with the shots I got then, the light wasn't great and I couldn't seem to salvage them much in Lightroom.

This time I was armed with the Canon tilt shift lens to help better capture this very expansive scene, and also a few years more experience of challenging locations.

Anyway, I arrived in Paris at Gare Du Nord on Monday afternoon; after checking into the hotel I didn't waste any time and hopped on the RER to Chatelet Les Halles then changed there en route to La Défense.

Fortunately I just about remembered where the slightly precarious-feeling staircase was that affords this viewpoint and headed straight there.

Popped the 6D on my trusty Gitzo tripod and snapped off a couple of frames and called it done (spoiler alert, I returned this evening, Thurs 2nd Feb, and did get some proper night shots as well - I will post in due course) . This is a combined 2-frame vertical panorama.

Most shots I've seen here are taken at night when it's much darker than this but I like the reflections you get shooting here before sundown. Unfortunately the weather was almost completely grey and overcast for the whole time I've been here, but that didn't stop me trying to get a few images from places I'd planned to visit.

Stay tuned for more Parisian uploads coming in the next few weeks as I have a fair number of photographs I'd like to upload ...

Notre Dame is one of my favorite places of Paris. When I lived there years ago I used to go inside regularly and sit down to enjoy the cool darkness and the deeply nourishing atmosphere and quiet. In recent visits to Paris, I still entered beautiful Notre Dame at least once, to go listen to the soprano singing vespers and to enjoy the amazing beauty of this structure, and the energy one can feel there.

I wrote the following paragraphs in English and in French a few years ago. Now we all know of course the tragedy that has befallen this world treasure:

Little secret for those of you who love to find the golden treasures from the angels: look for the little chapel of La Vierge de Lourdes. It's inside along the north wall, near the entrance. Stay there a long while very quietly and watch the candles and the statue, and see what happens. Millions have prayed there. It is a mind space of gossamer energy that soaks your soul in radiance. What a gift this little chapel can be if one is willing to receive. I left the cathedral with eyes of Wonder.

That time of day when the city lights begin to shine and Paris becomes the city of light

This is an image I shot last year and is another motion bur image in my Enlightenment series. Shot with an exposure of 270 sec with the 24mm tilt-shift lens. I have shot many motion blur images over time, I think it’s time for them to see the light of day.

You can find limited edition prints of this image and more on my website.

One of my most beloved places in Paris, from the time I was just a kid. I’m always trying in my images to depict subjects that move me, and look at them from this prism and not necessarily because they are well-known subjects or recognizable structures. I think making a photograph of a well-known place is a much harder task than just shooting a random subject because you have to deal with all the symbolism that place carries within, and find a way to integrate that in the story you’re making of that place for yourself, in the emotion you feel. There’s always a combination of deeply personal and universal experiences in these cases and I find that so fascinating.

What’s behind this series, and behind this image too, is the idea that everything we experience is intertwined and is creating who we are, little by little, experience by experience, till the moment we reach the truth and understand our true mission in the world. And that is Enlightenment.

New series shot in Paris and France. An image I wanted to shoot for a couple of years till I finally got the right conditions and light. Add to this a few months till I started and finished processing, and this is Enlightenment I. It is all about (en)Visionography and taking it one step further and in a rather different direction than my usual work, if not necessarily as for the subject or treatment, surely as for the meaning. It will become clearer as the series unfolds.

Digging into my archives....just found this little glimpse of the Right Bank and the Sacre Coeur in the distance, photo taken from somewhere along the Seine on a sunny morning....good memories!

Wonderful informative video about these traditional, beautiful, family owned bakeries.

"The Bakery on the Corner". A most beautiful French bakery, near Bastille, where - last time we visited the city - we enjoyed buying our favorite baguettes, the 'bazinette' freshly and lovingly made every day by the artisan baker L. Bazin. Apparently the bakery has now changed hands and is called Boulangerie Bo.

The building is historic, thankfully preserved despite the constant pressure in most cities of the world to replace and rebuild. (In fact there was construction going on next door as can be seen by the scaffold and plastic.) Happily this architectural gem still exists.

And here, as I positioned myself for the 'portrait' of the facade (see that photo below in my comments), it seemed as if two completely different French generations and cultures appeared suddenly at the same time. Loved the elderly couple stopping to look longingly in the window, contrasting with the hurried pace of the young woman on the other side. The 21st century is here. Must move! Must go! Must hurry! Meanwhile, I stand quietly and patiently, very carefully go "Click!" to catch the scene.

As a photographer exploring Paris's contemporary landmarks, I was drawn to the striking angular design of the DUO Towers. For this image, I isolated one of the towers against a dark, dramatic sky, choosing a bold upward perspective that emphasizes its powerful geometric presence. The building's distinctive slanted facade and precise grid pattern of windows created the perfect subject for a minimalist black and white study. Through careful composition and post-processing, I aimed to create a high-contrast image that transforms this modern Parisian tower into an almost abstract geometric form. By eliminating color and embracing deep shadows in the sky, I wanted to emphasize the building's strong architectural lines and create a dramatic interplay between light and shadow. My goal was to present this recent addition to Paris's skyline in a way that celebrates its bold, contemporary design while creating an artistic interpretation that focuses on form, pattern, and architectural power.

(Click on the photo to better see the details.) A glimpse of Paris .... an afternoon at the Louvre. Imagine that this entire area was filled for centuries with medieval houses until the urban renewal project of Haussman, under Louis Napoleon, had them demolished to create an open space.
