willis and katie were in st thomas a week before we were, so they hid a note for us to find there. it was the best adventure ever, except for the part about the heat and the humidity and the sunburn. we drank a whole bottle of water on the 10-minute trip up there.

as we learned last year, room service can be an adventure at paradise point. when you order room service in the evening, they ask that you go ahead and leave the tray outside your door and someone will pick it up. on friday night, i ordered a very, very good margarhita pizza from room service, which came in a carry out box, but with plates and silverware. so, when i was done, i put what was left of the pizza outside with the dishes on top.

apparently, the pickup guy missed seeing it because at 3:30 am, i was awakened by a scraping sound outside. then there was the sound of a plate hitting the concrete. i listened for awhile as whatever was outside moved the box across the patio. thinking it was one of the cats i had seen or maybe even a raccoon, i decided to peek out the curtain and determine if i could chase it off. now, that wonderful light you see next to my door there...yeah...that wasn't working, but that was okay because there was plenty of light coming from across the street. however, when i looked through the window, i couldn't really tell what i was seeing because it was dark colored. I thought, "that's too big to be a cat. is that a dog?" then, it turned and i could see that it was a SKUNK. there was a skunk trying to get into the box and get my leftover pizza.

i watched it for a few seconds because i really wanted to take a picture of it, but there just wasn't enough light and i sure as heck didn't want to scare it since it was right in front of my air conditioner. finally, i called the front desk and told them that there was a skunk trying to steal my pizza box. in a voice that told me this happens all the time, she said "oh great. i'll send someone right away." in a little bit, i heard the golf cart and as he pulled up, the skunk ran back across the patio and disappeared. i was just left to wonder where exactly does that skunk hang out during the day???
