Side view of the landed origami "Spaceship". ;-))

Here you can see the topview , where the origami spaceship 'Iceflower' is preparing for landing.

This time I folded the 'Starflower' from glassine and on a bigger grid 1:32, so I had more space left at the edges to invent this "Spaceship".

Hexagon about 15cm, finished model about 9cm.

Another way of folding my origami 'Butterfly"--molecule: "Connection 3".

If you interested, here you can see:

To be continued ....;-))

Folded from a white sheet of glassine, about 30cm, grid 1:96. Final result is about 19cm.

For the photo I used another blue sheet of glassine, to create a colored backlight.

Finally found some time to join the 30 modules together. But.....when I took a break and returned, I saw this face of an owl, so I couldn't resist to take a photo first, before finishing it ;-))

Here you can see the completed origami model by Miyuki Kawamura called "Star Orb" (2013).

"Despite all weather conditions, sicknesses and bad pandas, we have the very good news, that Santa is on his way. 'Ho,ho,ho!!!' Our special air-reporter was able to make a photograph of this 'traveling by cloud -Santa'. There is a lot of wind up-there, but he is holding on!", according to the Newspaper O-Ri_G_A-Mi.

Diagrams origami 'Santa', designed by Serge Afonkin, in the Origami Journal 10 (1997)

This Santa is folded from 7 pieces of paper of kami (and one for the sack) and you need glue.

I love this origami wizard and finally found the right paper to fold it with ;-))

Also for the '7 Days with Flickr' Crazy Tuesday Theme "New Purposes".

I want to fold so much more....... and also make beautiful photos of these folded origami-models, so I can share their beauty with you!

Remember I told you I was going to connect my origami 'Butterfly"--molecule?

Well, this is one way of folding it and I call it "Connection 2".

Here you can see "Connection 1".

Folded from a white sheet of glassine, about 30cm, grid 1:96. Final result is about 19cm.

For the photo I used another red sheet of glassine, to create a colored backlight.

Zooming in on my latest origami tessellation 'Interaction'.

And because it is Sliders Sunday, I did it a color-treatment.

HSS everybody!

Another exploration of one of my tessellations 'T-est 3' using different paper (glassine).

You see the front (left) and backside(right) of my tessellation "Yellow" using the big irregular hexagon connected with big regular hexagon.

It is not completely flat, it has a slight convex.

I was surprised to see the outcome the backlit photo, because it give the two tessellations a kind of 3D effect, that is actually not there.

Due to their own beauty I call them "Duo 2" and I also gave it a different color than the backlit versions of "Duo 1" .

Sometimes tessellations just have two front sides, you can decide which one prefer and just turn it around ;-))

Once I folded the grid, a division of 1:64, I started to fold from the middle, in this case, the 'butterfly-pattern".

But because of the fragility and weakness of the paper I closed the little hexagon, so the pattern would hold together, that's is why it looks different then the finished "butterfly on the right below. You could say it looks more like a flower, this way ;-))

Also I had to change the distance where the next butterfly would be, because of the paper I used, it is not easy to fold. It is less accurate... the photo shows...please reminds me not to use this paper for this kind of folding....

I also had to remove some the fibers, they are not foldable, unfortunately....

On the left below, I hope you see how the continuation of this pattern takes place.

I made this photo in full sunlight, and the fun part is that the paper gets a metallic look.

Here you can see the completed pattern , called "Finished".

🎵 Penguins Too 🎶

Big excitement today!!!!! This origami penguin-family is on their way to Nijmegen's cultural hot spot 'Honig' today. It's again time for the 4th Honig expedition 2018...

And believe it or not, but some human relatives called "Penquins Too" (Michiel Braam, piano and Frank Nielander, saxes) are presenting their new album 'Crime' at "Brebl".......... Here you can get an impression of their music.

All the penguins will be there, so if you want to see and hear them alive and have a meet and greet, be welcome ;-))

Model: origami 'Penguin'

Design by Taichiro Hasegawa

Diagrams in his book "Double-Sided Origami"

I folded the big ones folded from 70x70cm wrapping paper( final height 35cm) and the little penguins from 15x15cm kamipaper.

Remember I told you I was going to connect my origami 'Butterfly"--molecule?

Well, this is one way of folding it and I call it "Connection 1". If you look closely you will see a "strange" kind of symmetry.

It is a first step, but I liked the pattern that emerged, so I made a picture from it, before folding it to a first possible other, more definite, tessellation pattern, as you can see here.

If you want to see the progress of my "Butterfly"-molecule pattern, click here for the album, where you can see my other tessellations, based on this molecule.

Folded from a white sheet of glassine, about 30cm, grid 1:96. Final result is about 19cm.

For the photo I used another green sheet of glassine, to create a colored backlight.

This lovely origami 'Indian Mask' is designed by Toyoaki Kawai. It reminds me also of a God of the sun, that's why I used yellow colored paper.

Folded from 30x30 handmade paper, which I painted.

"The Halloween Magic has done it's work!", cried 'Lady Witch' out loud!!!

"When I woke up and went downstairs I found "Fish" alive again, lying on the table!!!!."

"There was a note attached saying, that in the future there will be updates, but meanwhile...... now I'm able to take 'Fish" with me. I'm so grateful to you all, thanks for your help, much appreciated".

Dedicated to a dear friend of mine, who passed away suddenly two months ago. A few days after I had heard the news, I found a beautiful living butterfly in his house, surprisingly because it was wintertime....It was a European Peacock (Aglais io).

That day there was sunshine...... I went outside and it flew away into the blue air.........letting the butterfly go......letting them both go ....

"Oh dear.....Oh dear...... I'm so excited!!!... So that is an egg?!!!", shouted one chicken.

"I suppose so....", smiled the other one.

Have a wonderful start of Easter for those who celebrate it!

This lovely origami 'Hen Shaped Box' by Akiko Yamanashi is an easy to fold model.

Each 'Hen' is folded from three pieces of kamipaper, 15x15cm, two for the lid and one for the box.

Diagrams in Origami Tanteidan Convention Book 20.

I wanted to extend the pattern of my small origami-tessellation "Arrow" (the upper one), but the grid I used wasn't big enough….. So I had to adjust the pattern and "Star-Row" ( the one on the button) is the result.

And I had to make a bigger grid, still folding on that one ;-))

Here is the raw version of the beginning.

The good thing about my 'mistake', is the fact that I can show better now (I hope) how moving the centre of a pattern, gives the possibility for creating a new pattern, although related.

I posted "Flower-Star" in the first comment box. You can see there that the little star is in the middle of the pattern and that in "Star-Row" there is a different centre.

I do hope it clarifies even more what my idea is than yesterday.

"Arrow":

folded from a hexagon 15x15cm, 'Anett-Paper', grid 1:32

"Star-Row:

folded from a hexagon 33x33cm, Anett-Paper', grid 1:64

"We received the sad news that the Origaliens, are definitely leaving..... as you can see, the alteration of the "SpaceCraft" has been completed and they are ready for take-off. They promised to return someday......

So we wish them 'Bon Voyage" and hopefully until next time.!"

This tessellation, called “Tri-Angle”, is the last transformation or altering of "SpaceCraft" .

The paper is getting tried...I used the same piece of paper all the time.

BTW, do you know that the word altering is an anagram of triangle? :-)) That's how I got this idea of this origami-project.

Here you can see the other side, called 'Bouquet' .

As some of my friends know, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to wrap!

I love presentations . . . the only problem is that people complain that they don't want to *unwrap* my gifts! oh well . . .

So here is the front and back of one of my traditional yearly calendars . . . .

ENJOY! and Happy Sliders Sunday, two hours before it is Monday! Nothing like the last minute!

"Good morning, dear friends and visitors of Origami-world", says Jack O' Lantern.

"This is the news from Friday 29 oktober, just a few days away from the Halloween-party.

One visitor, to take part in this party, is 'Skull' and it already arrived yesterday, because it has been woken up by its hunger. No need to be scared though, "Skull" has certainly NOT eaten 'Fish', as it only eats human emotions, either fear or joy, even sadness. So if would/could feed it........ would be a nice thing ;-))

The investigation of the 'Fish'-mystery is still going on, we keep you informed.

Have a nice day".

There is a video tutorial

I test folded for Alphonsus Rouis this lovely Origami Star "Joyvhe".

Thanks, Alphonsus! :)

There were some other testfolders too, and they made lovely renditions with different paper, so I decided to use two colors and then you see the two triangles better.

Tereza Corsini had a beautiful idea and I also folded a big and little one. But I just put it on top of the bigger one.

Each star is folded from 6 units

Unit size: bronze rectangles

Here is the link how to make: square to bronze rectangle

One molecule of a new origami tesselation pattern, looks like a butterfly ;-))

Detail of my latest tessellation, called "Extended Open Connection 5".

The tessellation was just laying on the table...I can't help myself, I'm seeing faces everywhere......and I saw this sleeping autumn beauty ;-))

Enjoy your day ;-))

Playing with one of my tessellations 'T-est 3' using different paper (glassine) and add some modifications in the pattern.

You see two different tessellations using the same irregular hexagon, but one is connected with bigger hexagon and the other one with the smaller regular hexagon. It is not as perfect as I want it to be, but for me this also a study and holding on to ideas before making a bigger one.

I like the color a lot, makes it vivid, so I call this duo "Orange".

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album Origami - Tessellation Progression".

I folded a tiny tessellation with the classic triangle twist creating a rhombic shape, looking almost like a diamond ;-))

On the right photo I opened the middle and saw a little heart.

Folded from very thin paper 15x15cm.

Grid 1:32

Three little "Mr. Hearts" are trying to skate on the ice holding to each other, because they were aren't used to this...... They are having big fun trying to keep their balance ;-)

It is fun model which can stand on his own.

Each Mr. Heart is folded from a duo-colored paper (15x15cm).

Tutorial can be found here.

When I was folding this model I had to think of the song Owner Of A Lonely Heart by the famous group Yes (1983)

Move yourself

You always live your life

Never thinking of the future

Prove yourself

You are the move you make

Take your chances win or loser

See yourself

You are the steps you take

You and you - and that's the only way

Shake - shake yourself

You're every move you make

So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

Much better than - a

Owner of a broken heart

Owner of a lonely heart

I like how the little triangles dance with the bigger ones ;-))

You are looking at the backlit version of my latest origami tessellation called "Triangle Dance".

Folded from a hexagon 33cm, grid 1:72", Anett-paper

The other side is called 'Hexagon love'.

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album Origami - Tessellation Progression".

First phase of the multiplying my origami "Butterfly-molecule". I call it "Duet 1".

On the left you see in the middle the 'normal' version. On the right I changed the sequence of the 'wings'.

When I folded a first time, I used a regular hexagon, but in the end I found that a different shape was nicer. You can see it in the first comment box.

I did some color chance on the other side of my newest tessellation 'Play'.

And found these four swinging ladies dancing on the music by Whitney Houston: 'I wanna dance with somebody ' .

They both are folded from German wrapping paper, grid 1:64", hexagon about 33cm, finish size about 15 cm, and again slightly concaaf. I think due to the density of the pattern and the thickness of this paper.

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album Origami - Tessellation Progression".

Here is the backlit version of the front sides of my tessellation "Duo 1".

I just love backlit versions of tessellations, you can see the different patterns better. That is why, while folding one I always hold it up against to the light to see which pattern is emerging ;-))

The possibilities for variations playing with only the big and small hexagons are enormous, as you can imagine. But don't be afraid, I'm not going to fold every possibility ;-))

Their backsides are also very beautiful, when backlit. They have a completely different structure, so that why I call it "Duo 2".

These tessellations have just two front sides.

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album "Origami - Tessellation Progression".

While folding a new origami tessellation, connecting the butterfly-molecule in a bigger grid, I saw a paper-face ;-)). I emphasis the eyes and mouth with small colored round paper.

A few years back I gave a friend of mine a tessellation made of glassine paper for her birthday. As you perhaps know, the beauty of a tessellation folded with that paper, one can see the best when it is backlit. She put it in her window so it catches sunlight. But now that tess is bleached completely and she wants a new one, if that would be possible. Here you see the first new one called "Squares". I want to make a few different pattern, but all based on "Blocks", so she can make a choice.

Paper: glassine, 20x20cm, grid 1:16

Discovered this pattern independently.

"Interaction", my final and altered version of "Dance", folded with thinner paper. Almost all the different forms are 'moving', no escape possible ;-)

I found a nice quote by Jodi Aman for this tessellation: “Everyone we interact with becomes a part of us.”

For some reason this tessellation doesn't want to be flat, (it has a slight convex), I have to find a new place to store it ;-)

The other side "Rotor" looks like this.

Folded with 'Anett paper', named after a dear origami-friend from Germany, who provided me this paper. It is indeed lovely paper for this kind of tessellations, so I am grateful to her ;-)).

Because this paper is whitish, I decided to go for a black and white version.

Grid 1:64", hexagon about 33cm, finished model about 17cm.

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album Origami - Tessellation Progression".

Still folding tessellations, but it takes time to fold the grids...... and sometimes I just want to fold something else...

Finally finished the transformation from my 'Connection 6' (photo on the right) into this 'Tessellation Btt-4'.

And also 'Tessellation Btt-3' is ready ;-))

Three Objects

folded by Paul Reichert

Again my 'Tessellation T-est 2', but now folded of bible-paper, which is much thinner, so it flattens better ;-))

Frontside on the left on the photo, backside on the right.

I uploaded it, so you can see the difference it makes, which kind of paper you use. Here you can see the older frontside and

backside.

You can leave this tessellation it like is right now or change it, which I did ;-)) Here you can see a first new one: 'Tu-est 2A'.

Crazy Tuesday - Orange and Black

Two strips of paper folder at right angles to create a 'spring' effect!!

In The Netherlands the feast day for Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) is December 6th. The day before, on December 5th, children leave clogs or shoes out for him, which they fill with hay or carrots for his gray horse. In return, St. Nicholas replaces the children’s gifts with small gifts and sweets..

Leyla Torres designed this cute Saint ;-)

Videotutorial here.

Folded from 15x15cm kamipaper.

"The only thing, that should surprise us is, that there are still some things that can surprise us."

Quote - Francois de la Rochefoucauld

Folded this traditional origami Fox family for a friend.

Each fox is folding from two pieces of paper of the same size, one for the head and one for the body. It's a very easy model.

And just had some fun playing around using other photos ;-))

Happy surprisingly new week for you too.

For some of my dear friends on Flickr, who don't fold and are curious of how the folding takes place, I decide to photograph some steps, to reveil "the secret", no just kidding ;-), it's really so nice to know you are interested.

First I cut out a hexagon out of a piece of paper, sometimes out of a square, sometimes out of a rectangle and then I start to make/fold the division of the grid that I need. This is somewhere in between......I still have to do a lot.

I used very thin paper with plenty of fiber, as you can see.... there is a very big one........ Because I wanted to see if I could tessellate this kind of paper...., always like a challenge........ to be continued.

Topview of origami "Star Prints" by Aldo Marcell.

Here you can see the "face view" of this model ;-D

Origami "Star Prints" is related to another dodecahedron I folded earlier: "Oleo", (also created by Aldo Marcell), which is an "easier" version, just a few creases less.

Folded from 30 pieces of double colored kami paper (7,5x7,5 cm).

No glue.

Tutorial can be found here.

Here you see the finished version of "Prelude". It reminds me of a rotor, so that's how it got its name.

It has a concave shape, so you are looking inside.

The other side called "Interaction" looks like this.

Folded with 'Anett paper', named after a dear origami-friend from Germany, who provided me this paper. It is indeed lovely paper for this kind of tessellations, so I am grateful to her ;-)).

A little version of "Woven rings" by Joel Cooper. I don't have the right paper (yet) to make a bigger one.

Big thanks to Monika Hanková, who reverse-engineered this lovely model and showed us the backside. So now I could figure it out how to fold it.

This paper is too thick and I had to flatten the hexagon and the triangles.

The frontside is very nice but I also like the backside, when it is backlit. Here you can see different views of the backside.

Hexagon out of A4, grid 1:28. Final size about 9 cm.

Folded for a friend of mine, she liked these open versions of my two tessellations Connection 5 and Connection 6. And I was able to take a photo them this time ;-))
