The bulk goods freighter Gardenia K being escorted through the Calebra Cut of the Panama Canal by a tugboat. Even though the freighter is moving under its own power, the Canal Authority requires a tugboat escort in case the ship should have engine trouble - the tug can keep it from drifting into and damaging the cut or getting grounded and blocking this - the narrowest part of the Canal.
