Many warblers bob their tail but the Palm outbobs them all. CSS.

Close up of a palm frond - loved the way the light was coming through from behind and highlighting the intricate nature of the veins and the contrast of light and shadow.

For Sliders Sunday this week I decided to dabble with an image of dried palm leaves, taken on a deserted beach On Skiathos island in Greece in May.

I didn’t really try anything new in the processing but it was an interesting image to play with, having lots of detail and structure. I’ll post a link to the initial processed image in the first comment.

Most of the effect was achieved using two copies of the original in layers, blending the top one with Negate blend mode and then using an Invert adjustment on the result. This, rather curiously, made the palm appear as if sunlight was behind it.

The rest was done by duplicating, flipping and blending it and then using a Mirror filter with two mirrors to create symmetry. Then followed a play with the colours and we were done.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

A spectacular sunset in southern California with a crimson, soft pink clouds to accent the silhouette of this palm trees. Those trees are hardy they make it though 50 mph winds, 110 degree heat , about 3 to 4 inches of water a year. Blessings and try this lovely nature video on Flckr too. flic.kr/p/2jv2dxD

Although the literal meaning of oasis is a green spot in the desert, it can also be used to describe a peaceful area where you can escape life's rigors.

This is my oasis.

I took this on Christmas morning. This is at Deerfield Beach in south Florida. Got there at 6:30am and waited it out. I think it was worth the wait.

I'm Back from Florida today. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

My favorite "sunrise in paradise" location on Key West. These palms are featured on Jimmy Buffett's A1A album, and the back cover is about 50 yards north of here. While he lived here this was a favorite spot of his and he wrote a few songs here. Have been attempting to get the best shot of these palms for many years. I'M STILL TRYING!

In Christianity palm tree is the symbol of “victory over death” and celebrated as Palm Sunday at the Easter holiday season.

Seen at Golden Gate Park. San Francisco, California, USA, these palm trees are so different from those in front of the Synagogue, that I uploaded earlier :

Large, plain tanager, gray overall with hints of olive-green in good light; note contrasting black wings with paler patch at base of primaries. A habitat generalist often found around palm trees and in open shrubby areas, gardens, and forest edges. Usually in pairs or small flocks, sometimes with other species. Often quite noisy and conspicuous; gives a series of sputtering squeaks or a single nasal “swee?”
