HorseShoe Bend Colorado River

Once on a windless morning during sunrise in Coyote Buttes South near the Cottonwood teepies.

The other place one must visit when in Page, AZ is the magnificent Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River, 1,000 feet below.

The afternoon we visited the sky clouded over. In addition, due to construction, the half of the bend which gives the best views was closed off. Thus the busloads of tourists were clustered in the remaining space. We decided to go around the big rock outcropping to see if we could get a better view. It didn't work. Unfortunately we could not get the whole bend in the frame. I needed my fisheye lens! But the sun came out for a few minutes before disappearing again in dark clouds.

Some 90–120 metres (300-400 ft.) down in Antelope Canyon X, the light is breathraking, as it bounces off the sandstone walls and lights up even the bottom of the slot canyon.

Memory of hot June days in Page, Arizona, when I preferred to spend several days in the shady canyons.

In the morning before 6 a.m. shortly after sunrise in the "Valley of the white ghosts".

Twice I was on my Southwest Trips with the Wahweap Hoodoos. The second time I managed (via BLM Road 431, now closed) to arrive at the destination in time for sunrise.

In summer, the sun is cheap to dive the most beautiful Hoodoo and the cliff behind it in a charming warm light.

Is it insane to drive 600 miles to take a picture?

I will call it passion, for now!

(others say I have a problem) LOL

How awesome is the world we live in? Do not waste any more time get out and see it!

Music sometimes brings me to a place...like this song:

ALIVE

Days slow by my window

World slows down as it goes

Goodbye to last night

Can you describe to me

All the world that you see?

Oh, I need it so much

I'm just waiting

- Empire of Sun

Around 6am, looking West from Wahweap Outlook with the sun just breaking over the horizon behind. Had a 4:30 am alarm, to get us to this location for the sunrise over Wahweap Bay and Lake Powell... which was meh, but turning back towards the parking lot to leave I saw this blazing vista, this was where it was at!

I hate when fellow photographers tell other photographers what to do. Especially when it’s “don’t shoot in direct sun”. How else would I have gotten this shot with these striking colors and framing if not for the sun?

Ambling along the slick rock ridge of White Pocket at sunset is an exercise in walking amount colors.

One of my favorite qualities of sandstone is how it catches ANY type of light- daylight, sunset, blue hour, and just glows. The color explodes out of the rock.

Vermillion Cliffs is a dream.

So this one was a big deal for me. I had seen it in pictures and knew we were going to drive near it on a drive to CA so I made sure to arrange a stop on the way back just so we could see it. I am not very good with heights and getting even close to the edge of the cliff was really difficult. It is a 1000ft drop after all!!! But I was able to get pretty darn close to it and manage to get a couple of shots off. Luckily you don't notice the trembling in the picture.

Coyote Buttes South really is one of those places that defies the imagination. How could natural forces make something that looks so sculpted and perfect?
