Not Antelope Canyon but Canyon X, only to visit as part of a guided tour (im sorry, but i have no coordinates, the area is private property).

At noon there is much indirect light on the canyon walls. In conjunction with a long exposure arising as particularly intense colors. Therefore, it is incomprehensible that the tour guides today don't allow a tripod at the photo tours.

Exactly 6 years ago today I was allowed to visit the Wave in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument for the 4th and last time so far.

Actually, the story began in the mid-80s when I saw pictures of the Wave in a magazine (GEO). Among other things, it said that it would take an endless hike through the desert to reach the Wave...no question of House-Rock-Valley-Road.

Well, 20 years later and wiser by a lot of information, I was lucky enough to win permits in the online lottery 4 times (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2016).

A closer view of Gunsight Bay from Alstrom Point...when there was still more water in Glen Canyon.

From the archive:

in the center of the Lower Antelope Canyon on my first visit.

As always, it is the indirect light in the late morning that fascinates me there.

The picture shown here has of course been reworked with the current Lightroom version.

Old but timeless from the archive.

The rock formation also known as "Lollipop Rock" in the evening light.

The Wave, a never ending story.

A variant of the many wave images from a slightly higher vantage point. That was exactly 16 years ago today, a lasting memory...

13 years ago today in Coyote Buttes North, better known as "The Wave".

Some of the colorful rocks behind the wave or below the TopRock are particularly photogenic when they are reflected in the water, as here.

Needed a change of pace...wanted to shoot ended up here.

On my first visit to the Wave in the Coyote Buttes North, I was able to let off steam alone in the location for quite a long time in the morning.

Here the view from the Wave to the Top-Rock Arch including its reflection in the puddle.

Possibly the most photographed rock in Coyote Buttes South, Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona, seen here in golden evening light.

Industry meets the southwest the view near Lake Powell...SAD.

You would never expect a place of such beauty to have these smoke stacks pumping (who know what into the air) so close.

If you have reached the wave after climbing over a sand dune you get this first view of one of the most fascinating landscapes of the American Southwest (archive image).

One of the many facets of the rock in Lower Antelope Canyon. The indirect light literally makes the rock glow; the long exposure intensifies this.

The currently few opportunities to take new pictures lead me to the picture archive again and again.

Here is another photo from the time when I wanted to photograph every stone in the southwest of the USA (southwest virus, contagious, but not dangerous ;-))

One of the many ways to photograph the Wave.

Something from the days when you could still shoot for hours without interference in Lower Antelope Canyon.

Just after sunrise in the South Coyote Buttes.

White Pocket Mountain from my very "private" trailhead during sunrise (5:36 am).

I was there alone years ago and was afraid I would get stuck in the deep sand. So I parked my SUV above the critical slope that leads down to the official trailhead and hiked across country to White Pocket for about 20 minutes. In the morning around sunrise I had this beautiful view of the mountain, glowing in the first light from above.

Once in the American Southwest.

The Waterholes Canyon near Page / Arizona is often marketed under a different name.

An archive image from times when you could still photograph alone and undisturbed for hours in the Lower Antelope Canyon.

Coyote Buttes South in the evening light.

Indirect light on a sunny day in Canyon X/Arizona.

At that time, this canyon was still an insider tip a few miles away from the well-known Antelope Canyon.

I was allowed to visit this canyon with the well-known photographer Mr. Jackson Bridges from Page / Arizona, a great relaxed photo tour without a time limit.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bridges passed away in 2019.

In summer the sun is favorable to bathe the most beautiful hoodoo and the rock face behind it in a charming warm light.

Early morning in Coyote Buttes South / Vermilion Cliffs National Monument / Arizona.

Several years ago in the American Southwest in search of his "secrets".

In order to get a better overview of these so-called "brain rocks", I climbed onto an adjacent rocky mountain (it's name is "Teepee Dome"). From there you also have a perfect view towards Coyote Buttes North (The Wave).

Another variant that photographically portrays the unusual nature of the wave.

From the archive:

Image of one of the most beautiful landscapes in the American Southwest, a paradise for landscape photographers.

For me the most beautiful butte of the Coyote Buttes North area. It can be found east of Top Rock. If you leave this via the small sand dune near Melody Arch, you can hardly miss the butte.

During the "Golden Hour" on the banks of Lake Powell opposite Lone Rock. Approx. 1/2 hour after sunset the sky turned pink and the rocks of the Glen Canyon began to glow in the evening light.

A year before seen the location from the top:

www.fotocommunity.de/photo/sidestep-canyon-albert-wirtz/1...

The Sidestep Canyon is one of the many worthwhile canyons that can be visited from Page / AZ.

The countless hoodoos are mostly white, interspersed with occasional brown stripes, so not as spectacular as in the Vermilion Cliffs. But you have the Sidestep Canyon almost certainly alone and does not require a permit.

Unfortunately the approach over the BLM 431 is blocked since 2014.

Some 90–120 metres (300-400 ft.) down in Antelope Canyon X, the light is breathraking, as it bounces off the sandstone walls and lights up even the bottom of the slot canyon.

Just dried mud in the Paria River.

At the end of Lower Antelope Canyon in Arizona you can see the head of a figure which could have been carved by an 11th-century romanesque sculptor for some abbey in France or Italy, depicting the prophet Jeremiah or some other Old Testament character. His long hair and beard form fiery waves... Or maybe I'm just seeing things. In short, nature at its most virtuosic.

Something for your imagination, who thinks bad here ....😉

Accidentally discovered during a hike over the Yellow Rock. The Yellow Rock is a colorful rocky outcrop at the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and accessible via Cottonwood Canyon Road, a dirt road between Page/AZ and Escalante/UT.

Upper Antelope Canyon, near Page in northern Arizona. While only recently discovered (in 1931), the Upper Antelope and its counterpart, the Lower Antelope slot canyons, have quickly become must-see attractions in the American Southwest. The ever-changing, colourful sandstone walls and extraordinary shapes and textures are some of the most photogenic natural formations to behold.

Colorado River, near Page AZ, and the Glen Canyon Power Dam which created Lake Powel

The colors, lines, twists, and turns, shapes, patterns, and light are all amazing in the slot canyons near Page, AZ. Everyone needs to go at least once!

Amazing light, as it bounces off the sandstone walls and lights up even the bottom of Antelope Canyon X.
