A paddle boarder in Manly, Australia. Manly is a beach-side suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales.
This pair of ducks observed the hardcore paddleboarder from a distance. "Strange beings, those humans!" Note the ice chunks floating nearby.
Porteau Cove Provincial Park is an oceanfront haven for scuba divers, kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders, beachcombers and those just looking for a place to relax by the shore. It's a little bit of oceanfront paradise just minutes from Squamish
Yesterday afternoon had perfect weather and the Sheboygan, Wisconsin riverfront was full of people taking advantage of it. I saw this paddleboarder as he went under the 8th Street bridge and headed up the Sheboygan River.
Well, we waited for the surface of the lake to smoothen out a little as the wind was blowing ripples. The surface became calmer but then a little gust would ruin the reflection. So, sometimes you have to see what you can do - well we can't stop the wind from blowing but we can create a longer exposure and hope we can get some kind of result.
We were at one end of Wastwater in a little sheltered spot. During the day when we were there paddleboarders were enjoying the scenery - we haven't fancied paddle boarding but I bet you can get some excellent views of the surrounding mountains.

This is not intended to be about a particular person, but about disturbance to waterfowl, and particularly brant, by people on recreational watercraft. Especially on weekends, there are many people on paddleboards, kayaks and canoes on Morro Bay. The brant, which are here seasonally, feed especially on eelgrass, Zostera marina, and it has become extremely restricted in the past few years, even despite efforts at replanting (www.mbnep.org/eelgrass/). Having seen brant scare off at what seemed like huge distances in the past (yes, I have been guilty), I was surprised at how close to me these brant were approaching to feed as I stood quietly and was wondering if it were due to the scarcity of eelgrass. And I was even more amazed at how tolerant they were at the approach of this paddleboarder. To a point.
So while there are just less places for the brant to feed, there are simultaneously more and more recreationalists in the bay each year, frequently moving the waterfowl around, whether intentionally or not.

"Paddle boarding is like walking on water. Standing atop a board in the middle of the ocean, you see everything from sea life to the coastline and across the channel. Having that sweeping expanse in front of you, you just want to go exploring."

Another shot of Durdle Door with a paddleboarder in the middle this time. This really gives a sense of scale and shows that we are not so mighty when up against nature.
The paddle boarders have stopped for the day ... might be something to do with the rain that is threatening!
Stay Safe and Healthy Everyone!
Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... Thanks to you all!
Surfing is a year-round activity in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. When the winds cause the waves on Lake Michigan, the wave-riders are out. When the lake is flat, surfers become paddleboarders.
At a time of the year when hitting the surf is probably at it's least appealing, just got to admire the tenacity of those who decide to take the plunge!
I'm aware they have their wetsuits on, but hey, it must surely still feel a bit on the chilly side when you embrace the cold North Sea?
This woman is paddle boarding in Dana Point Harbor and you can see the whole setup here in a view from the pier. She has the leash attached which some don't use but she also doesn't have a safety vest so probably a good idea.
The only thing to worry about is sharks as they have bitten a few paddleboards this year when the paddlers got too close to their feeding areas. No person bitten so far this year in our southern California.
Last year in May a Marine helicopter warned Dana Point paddleboarders, "You are paddleboarding next to 15 Great White Sharks, exit the water immediately". That was last year.
This is a really fond memory for me. My partner, Nikki, is one of the paddleboarders in the photo, and with her out on the water, I was able to wonder around the beaching with the Mamiya 645 just looking for the odd photo and getting lost in thoughts of this and that. Anyway, for the memory, and in some ways photographically, I rather like this photo. The one to follow is a photo I took while wondering around :)
Taken yesterday evening at Mumbles. This stand up paddleboarder was having a quick paddle at sunset. I waited until he was directly in the path of the reflection of the setting sun.

Lake Wheeler Park opened in 1956 in Raleigh, North Carolina. It has over 800 acres with hiking trails, picnic areas, shelters, and volleyball! It is a primary water supply for Raleigh and surrounding communities. It caters to all kinds of boaters, jet skiers, kayakers, canoers, and stand-up paddleboarders! It has a nice waterfront center by the boat launch area!

He was just coming out of a wave and ready for the next one. Alex was hungry for fish and chips so we went in the cold, 56 F. to Fisherman's on the pier. We ate on a patio with heaters and no one around. The outside dining ban got lifted yesterday.
No need to comment - still on staycation.
25262 works a late afternoon train from Totnes to Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway. I'd been tipped off the resident rat was working four trips Saturday and Sunday so thought I'd go for the River Dart reflection shot. With it being baking hot and 28C again there were quite a lot of sunbathers on the river bank and also a large amount of paddleboarders which can provide additional focal points and enhance the picture whilst at the same time causing ripples and ruining the pristine reflection. I rattled off about eleven frames as the rat was only doing 5 mph as there is a slack here. The ripples are different in every frame due to the paddleboarding. This is about the best. Luckily I got 'The Money Shot' with D1015 a couple of months ago.
