I don't think the owlet is feeling very sociable or maybe not feeling like company right now!!! I was so happy to see even "one" of them. There may be 1-2 more.....I'm not sure right now. I haven't been able to get a real clear image of the owlets until now....this is the newest batch of owlets!!!!!! April 25, 2021. Sam and I both think this is the smallest owlet we've seen so far.
Fluffy Friday - one more owlet and we'll give these kids a break...
Great Horned Owlet
Western New York - March 13, 2025
Canon EOS R5, RF 100-500
Barred Owlets giving me the big double stare down. They fledged separately about a week ago, but have found each other way up in the treetops. My camera was virtually vertical in the tripod for this shot. Glad they are safe up there. Saw Mom or Dad feeding one of them a shrew today as well.
Barred Owlet fell onto the ground. He looked calm and was not afraid of the darkness. Instead, he looked around and tried to find a way back to the tree top.
Spotted Owlet peering from it's nest. It was almost like playing peek-a-boo with this bird. These birds were being pestered by a colony mynas continuously. The owl hops out and flutters its wings, and the mynas flew away. After 10 minutes, the same process repeats.
Scientific Name : Athene brama
Absolutely love the eyes of this bird. :-)
Shot this a long time back at Lalbagh.
Saat Tal, Uttaranchal, India
A very elusive cute small owl of India. It has a false face pattern on the back of it's head to fool any predator who might attack it.
Some picture of the owlets which lickly left the nest hole either Friday evening or early Saturday morning. One stayed on the inner branches while the other was on an outer limb appeared and disappeared as the wind blew the leaves.
A Great-horned Own and her two Owlets at Griffith-woods, #Calgary. Unfortunately one of the twins died a few days later.
Owlets are out!!!! This always kind of makes me sad because then they seem to vanish into thin air....so do the adults. I'm having a terrible time with the Flickr editor tonight!!!! I just can't seem to get this photo the way I want it!!!! LOL...the other owlet seems much smaller...I'll see if I can't get that one posted!!!!! Large view is best I think. :)
