This was an October evening back in 2014. Large chunks of rock (much of it originally from Norway) have been placed here at different times to protect the eroding shoreline. From time to time it has been moved and added to, the most aesthetically pleasing being Bardon Breccia rock. Nowadays new rock armour comes from closer to home in Leicestershire.
During excavations here footprints have been discovered in layers of buried clay and rock that are believed to be the earliest found outside of Africa. Also axes have been found, believed to indicate the earliest human occupation of Northern Europe.
Sadly, these defences are over-worked and the coastline continues to be eroded.
This photograph is a stitch of 6 'portrait' images taken with a Canon TS-E 24mm tilt shift lens, locked off on a tripod - 3 long exposure images for the sea and 3 normally exposed images for the impressive sky and cloud formation as the sun lowered behind me, illuminating the cloud base in a spectacular fashion.
Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on some of my images.
MacroMondays group theme will be Paper this is an attempt at the theme.
My idea was to make the paper look like the bottoms of curtains hung from the window with the sun shining through, the sun has shone brightly a lot just recently.
The problem is I have overworked this in an online editor which means the work will not be suitable for the theme.
So now back to the drawing board.
If you are into creative macro shots I recommend a visit to the group.

thank you for all your gracious comments and faves!
Ever see a fire truck parked in front of a donut shop? Didn't think so. I do not dislike the police, so don't get me wrong. But I'll tell you this true story:
It was 1986 and my girlfriend had a breakin-in in progress going on at the back door of her home. I was in a distant suburb. When she called the police they told her there would be up to a half-hour delay in response to this!!!
What did she do? She called the Fire Department who had a truck there in minutes!! The would-be murderer, rapist, criminal (who knows what he was?) fled immediately before the siren blaring trucks and fire crew even got right on the scene!
Woman saved from a nasty crime by... the FIRE DEPARTMENT!! Apparently this is not an uncommon occurence in L.A. and probably other cities too.
But to be fair to the police---yes, this makes for an entertaining story, but the blame is not with the completely overworked LAPD that is swamped with way more calls than they can handle. But NO THANKS to the City of Los Angeles which does not hire enough policemen to handle all the crimes going on in the city!!!
Cops work hard and relentlessly. There is no job more stressful and filled with more unpredictability than that of a police officer. They are called upon for all manner of crazy things from domestic disputes to murders-in-progress to gangland warfare and every possible crazy way one could imagine the legal code could be broken.
How would you like to pull over a suspicious vehicle on a dark street in L.A.'s Barrio or Watts and walk up behind a carful of gang-bangers? Well, for one thing you aren't going to do that! The minute you see what it is after lighting up the suspect's vehicle you are going to call for back up. But anything could happen from that point on and you're on your own until the backup arrives. Want that job? Didn't think so. Is it right to deny these people a break from the stress they face? I would certainly want to relax with a cup of coffee after almost getting stabbed in the face during a traffic stop.
The above incident with the womsn was in 1986. Things have only gotten worse in the 39 years since.

Thanks very much for your interest, fav or time to comment !!
well the rocks i thought were not quite working in the painting so i chose to paint over and keep the image simple …. i added thicker paint (impasto)to the waves and liked the effect in contrast to the sky. so rather than overwork and loose some of the spontaneity to the seascape i will leave for now. Beauty with Oils is you can always go back and add further glazes of colour.
So it seems that we've gone from being stressed by our hectic lives to being stressed that our lives have been halted...

Although I really like this scene, I am not entirely sure that I am thrilled with the processing. I actually overworked the first version, started over, and ended up reworking the second version and settled on this third version. The problem I think is that the land was fairly dark in relation to the sky, although in real life my eyes could see detail in both.
There is one very bright spot that runs across the darker cloud in the sky that was overexposed. I only shot the one exposure. I am not sure that even an HDR version would have helped.
In the end I simply darkened the sky, lifted the shadows a bit and gave extra contrast to the land. I am not sure that my capture has done justice to what really was a beautiful scene, but I have done what I believe to be my best with the file I had to work with.

Govan, Glasgow
The drinking fountain at Govan Cross, Glasgow, is known as the Aitken Memorial Fountain. It was originally created in 1884 and is the only surviving example of the decorative cast iron drinking fountains produced by Cruikshanks & Co.’s foundry at the Denny Works in Stirlingshire. The fountain is dedicated to Dr John Aitken, a local doctor who was deeply committed to serving the medical needs of the area's poor and is believed to have died from overwork.
The fountain fell into disrepair over time but was fully restored in 2011 as part of a regeneration effort led by the Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Initiative. The restoration was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Glasgow City Council. It remains a cherished landmark at Govan Cross, symbolizing the area's rich history and community spirit.

Phaetons and bicycles were the common means of transportation in Prince Islands in Istanbul. Recently, baterry powered trikes became popular. There is an warming debate to ban the use us horse phaetons as horses are being forced to overwork.

For the August 52 Weeks for Dogs Challenge - I've never "purposely" :) (yes, I've done it by mistake in the past) tried a Dutch angle before, so I'm not completely satisfied with this, but I'm overworked and lazy today, so this will have to do :)

I was trying to capture the peeling paint on the fire hydrant in front of my house. The focus is a bit wonky so I decided to overwork it a bit. It's not my favorite but it will have to do for today. I am challenging myself to focus on a single color for the week so, welcome to red week.
Folded from a 50cm square of mulberry paper.
I really overworked the paper trying to decide on the shaping, especially the head, but it just about held together.

No sun here... this is another faux sun shot, taken with the help of my office desk lamp.
I think this is a faux-colored daisy too, don't really want to know how they get that color. The "background" is a green spider mum. The whole bouquet has strong, almost garish colors, just "spoke" to me for some reason, now I am not so sure... :D

The castle of "Neuschwanstein" in a very special evening light! Shot this 5 years ago and ever since I enjoy the high resolution of a Flickr Pro Membership I wanted to overwork it and post it again. Hope you like it too.
The church was mentioned first time in 1253. The building was extended and overworked several times.
The Samsung Galaxy A15 (the only smartphone I've ever owned) is my last resort in taking photographs. But better this than to miss a shot entirely.
To be fair the camera does a good job, and I have the option of selecting a 50 MB image size. Still only jpegs (which gives me so much less to work with than a RAW file), and the resolution is still "impressionistic" let us say.
There's a story behind these two images today. The sculpture (next image) was taken at about 1.30pm on my way to the Specialist Clinic at the Launceston General Hospital for a 2.00pm appointment. After waiting and waiting and waiting, my specialist was finally able to see me. I left the hospital at 5.30pm! But rather than complain about our poor overworked hospital staff, I was genuinely grateful when this scene caught my eye as I walked back to the parked car.
The twilight was perfect, and the old building, the tree and former gas lamp that had been converted to electric, captivated me. Click.
More flowers to brighten the day. Had problems with overworking, so took the picture from a distance! Love this book, but the paper would not please everyone.

Watercolor on 1/8 sheet watercolor paper. I worked on this in my Friday painter's group and I always overwork paintings there for some reason. Decided to do some embellishing and call it good.
This is just another shot of the overworked Daddy with all of his children. They are grown, and I think gone now. Mom and Pop stay all winter though so we shall see. He is the 3rd from the left with the funny little top knot as he was molting big time. He whole head goes bald. :) I think raising 3 babies was a fantastic show of good parenting!

After church today, my wife & I went to buy a pair of cross-trainers for my knee rehab for the next 6-8 months. All my other sneakers are either basketball or badminton specific.
The people in the mall and in the store wer amused to see me limping around with a cane. I think I overworked my knee as it is very swollen and painful all the way to my ankle =( Sigh....
Ephesians 6: 14-15
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Transport and Arrival
The first trains carrying Jews arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau in March 1942. Often several trains arrived daily carrying Jews from almost every country in Europe.
Each of the trains carried in excess of a thousand victims. Prisoners had been packed into cattle wagons with no room to sit, no food and two buckets: one for water and another to use as a toilet. The journey could last days on end, with the prisoners not knowing where they were passing through or where they were going. Many victims died during the journey as a result of suffocation, illness or hunger.
Initially, arrivals at Auschwitz-Birkenau would be unloaded on a ramp alongside the main railway lines at Oświęcim. The prisoners would then walk the short distance to the camp. However, in preparation for the arrival of 440,000 Hungarian Jews during the spring of 1944, railway tracks were laid right into the camp, through the now infamous gatehouse building.
On arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau, the trains would pull up on the unloading ramp in front of the awaiting SS officers and guards, kapos and the Sonderkommando.
The Jews were thrown out of the railway wagons and made to leave their belongings behind them. They were then ordered to form lines ready for the selection process. This was when the Nazis selected which Jews would be sent straight to their deaths in the gas chambers and which Jews would remain alive temporarily.
More than 80 percent of those who arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau were immediately murdered. The majority of the remainder died as a result of overwork, mistreatment, disease or lack of food.

Not overly satisfied with this one; it's a glorified tablescrap. An ugly and overworked shuttle/transport which began service in the year 2089, servicing the Mars to Asteroid Belt routes. Also it photographs like a pain in the ***...

I went out this morning with hopes of some light breaking through the clouds, but of course it was not to be. So instead of being totally discouraged I manages a few frames with what was available and came away with this shot of the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley.
Photographers note... I had to fight myself to not overwork this shot as I feel I sometimes do with shots I take like this when the light is just "blah" because it is so tempting to open up the shadow, brighten this and that, and then the shot is something it wasn't.
while i was overworking this something went wrong and every dark color was red suddenly (used a new action). and i instandly loved it. (and made the hair even more red and tried to lower it on the other parts) (the real one is in comments).
oh and - all of my red-haired-loveys - don't worry i will not do this is real life :D
ouh again i missed my flickr birthday. it was day before yesterday! :( it's my 3rd year on here! :)

The Sylvester Chapel, erected around 840 in Goldbach, is one of the oldest surviving church buildings in Germany. The carolingian wall paintings are rightly regarded as the oldest in the region, the ottonian frescos are closely related to those in St. Georg on the Reichenau island in the Lake Constance.
The construction of the chapel dates back to a foundation of the Count Alpger, who was an adviser at the imperial court of Charlemagne. Probably immediately after the completion of the church around 840, monks of the Reichenau monastery painted his interior with an elaborate, perspectival meandering tape and a dedication inscription. The inscription, preserved as a fragment, in a poem form, comes from the famous Abbot Walahfried Strabo ( 808/9-849), who was a diplomat at the court of Charlemagne and is among the outstanding poets and scholars of his time.
After an enlargement of the chapel in the early tenth century, Reichenau monks were once again furnishing the interior with wall paintings.
The carolingian paintings were completely covered by the ottonic frescoes with scenes from the life of Jesus.
Up to the 18th century, the room was overworked four times and partly painted with new paintings.
Between 1992 and 1995 extensive restoration was carried out.

This portrait was taken a few days after this shot before I had to give back the beautiful antlers that I managed to borrow from a local shop. I found the pieces that make up this picture whilst going through my computer earlier this evening..
Lately I've found myself a bit caught up with client work trying to keep up with editing and preparing for new work. I sometimes feel overworked and overwhelmed but at the end of the day I'm doing something I love and its fun! There's also something in the air lately.. it's new and a little magical..
Watching a ton of muscle and sinew saunter up to the edge of a 25-foot cliff can be hair raising. But trying to estimate the exposure compensation when shooting into the shadow side of a dark animal on a bright snowy background is nothing short of shuttering. I always choose to try to most properly expose my darks in the subject, in that way preserving the details in the shadows. You risk “blowing out” your highlights but this the dance of the wildlife shooter. Post processing has become intricate enough to allow a certain amount of rebalancing of shadow and light. I prefer not to have to “overwork” an image. Of course, the art of photography is creating the image that pleases you the most, and as long as you are not shooting journalistic photos, the canvas is yours to manipulate.
