I´ve uploaded a similar view of Qianjiang New Town a couple of weeks ago.

I´ve now deleted it from my photostream, as this version right here is most definitely superior in composition, DOF, sharpness and light. I must have been a little overworked when I uploaded the last version.

This is what happens when underpaid, overworked gsi interactive employees pay the bill...

I was trying to make a tastier version of this treat (pictured below) but I overworked the dough. I knew from the start that I was getting a Michelin Man rather than a mummy because of the yeast in the dough recipe.

...sometimes overworking a picture can hurt more than it helps. The bee is an interesting design, but it just doesn't look right in there.

6x6" oil on canvas panel as seen at www.headondownthehighway.blogspot.com"Yesterday was one of those days when I was tired and not feeling like painting; plus I couldn't get excited about anything in my house to use as a model. I looked out into my backyard and noticed that our 20 ft. tall oleander bush was in full bloom. Never having approached that subject, I decided to try my luck and snipped off a branch. All went well until about halfway into my painting when one by one all the flowers started getting heavy petals and parachuted off their stems. I thought about hot gluing the blossoms back on but decided that probably wouldn't work. Oh well, one good thing about the oh-leander ordeal is that it kept me from getting too fussy and overworking it. I ended up calling it quits and took a nap."

Studying...because that is what cool people do.

APPARENTLY I hold my writing utensils weird too. My brother and I pretty much write the same...no idea why.

Sorry, I am getting into overworked territory.

Death-mask of Camillo Benso aka Cavour. This guy made up the term "Risorgimento," and, with his Risorgimento finally accomplished, he dropped dead of overwork, malaria and medical bleeding. One of the rare Italian historical figures with the charisma of a clear winner.

Imagine you're marooned on a desert island with your choice of Risorgimento heroes: Vittorio Emmanuele II, Garibaldi, Mazzini or Cavour. If you've got any sense you'd choose Cavour here, because he'd probably install a railway and a plumbing system on the island instead of simply killing and eating you.

Last year (2006), Phil Noto broke Adam Hughes Art Auction record of $4100 by having his piece go for $4400. While an already overworked Phil (he contributed art for a limited print we gave away to advance ticket buyers, which we also featured on a giant 10' x 15' banner at the front of the hall) brought his A-game once again, Adam retook the record this year with his Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Research has demonstrated positive correlations between gratitude and wellness. Yet, the hospital—a place where we come to try to get well—can sometimes be a difficult place to feel grateful. This may ring true whether you are a patient in pain, a concerned family member or friend, a caretaker, or a hospital staff member feeling tired and overworked. But, just as we can find beauty in a rainy day, we can find something for which we can be grateful, even in the most difficult times. This sense of gratitude, in turn, may contribute to our sense of happiness and well-being. In the “Gratitude Showers Challenge,” we invited the entire hospital community—patients, family, friends, volunteers, and hospital staff—to share short messages of gratitude that were vinyl cut and placed on clear umbrellas. There is also a sound component to these umbrellas—solar powered raindrop circuits, built by students during a 2020 Winter Term in sonic arts. These are essentially metronome circuits powered by small solar cells that are being affixed to the umbrellas. Once completed the umbrellas will become part of an installation suspended in a small courtyard adjacent to the hospital cafeteria.

Currently battling with leaves.

Having difficulties getting colours right and don't know where or how to start the whole thing.

These leaves are not meant to be botanical watercolours! I don't think I ever would have the patience for botanical watercolour painting. I am trying to get colours more or less 'right', practising how to paint leaves and just learning how to use and mix watercolours.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

El Principal de Pirque is the first Spanish colonial settlement in this commune. Although it was preceded by pre-Columbian cultures that began to develop a fledgling agriculture in this remote valley.

Once the Santiago region was conquered, around 1600, the Spanish divided up the lands, and the indigenous people of Río Clarillo and Pirque were entrusted to Rodrigo Quiroga and Alonso de Quiroga, loyal lieutenants of Pedro de Valdivia. At that time, the area was inhabited by about 300 Picunche indigenous people, one of their leaders being Chief Ande Telmo. The number of indigenous people decreased drastically due to overwork, war, and disease, which decimated the indigenous population after European contact.

During the early years of the conquest, the main economic activity was water mining, and many indigenous people from Pirque and the Río Clarillo were relocated to the marga marga estuary to exploit the gold mines. However, gold mining did not meet the settlers' expectations, and the economic base shifted to cattle ranching, an activity that led to the formation of large ranches during the colonial era.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the process of division of the cattle ranch is evident in Pirque, with new owners such as Captain Luis Fuentes and his heirs, José de Ureta y Carrera and José Saravia. Meanwhile, "El Principal" remained undivided, although it changed hands, being acquired in 1787 by Doña Javiera Morandé, Marchioness of the Royal House and widow of Francisco García-Huidobro, whose descendants maintained ownership for 150 years.

Upon the death of Ramón Subercaseaux Mercado, his estates were divided into plots and distributed among his seven children. Of these plots, the one known as "El Llano" went to his daughter,

Emiliana, whose husband, Melchor de Concha y Toro, managed it remarkably,

introducing winemaking, an activity that brought great fame and prosperity to

Pirque.

The "El Principal" estate, which had managed to remain intact since colonial times,

also suffered some dismemberment.

In 1852, Francisco García-Huidobro died, leaving his siblings as heirs to his

fortune and lands. After several years of legal disputes, the property was auctioned off

in four plots, one of which was managed by Vicente Izquierdo Urmeneta and was

named "Lo Arcaya." Meanwhile, the rest of the estate was kept by the García-Huidobro family until it was finally subdivided in the 1960s as part of the Agrarian Reform program.

In Pirque, the couple Hipólito Angulo Padilla and Margarita Acevedo Serrano had a large offspring of about twelve children, including Isaías Angulo Acevedo, born in 1893. He married Rosa Cortes Espinoza on April 13, 1913. He worked as a farmer in Cruceral de Pirque, El Llano Pirque, and around the end of the 1940s, he began working as a tenant farmer on the "El Porvenir" farm, owned by Juan Estay Ipinza (Mayor of Puente Alto 1937-1939).
